Don't worry, I've had some inappropriate thoughts a year ago already (I'm just a bit over the age of girls who write cringy fanfictions on Tumblr, so forgive me). I have to admit, I watched his short on The ICE and I really love it! It finally seems like a step in right direction in regards to some originality, even though the general Shoma movements that are often visible in his programs are still there. I feel like it's not just Shoma skating, I feel like he is finally playing a character or rather interpreting the music. Wasn't a big fan of his FS so far, mainly because I'm starting to dislike Moonlight Sonata quite a lot, and it's a rather safe bet, but obiously it's his comfort zone that he can pull off.
I'm glad you like his SP. As for the other points, let me just say I disagree. Perhaps you haven't watched him that much. Here are our points of disagreement, as follows:
1. originality: A bunch of his junior programs? Season 2015-16 SP- Legends, a.k.a. the club music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCPzcSMcA30? Season 2016-17 FS- Loco https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eqgI6-DUTc? I doubt many men have skated passionately to a tango-ish program with a woman screaming "Loco!" in the background.
2. Playing a character- Don Juan de Marco (Last junior season 2014-15 FS, although I must admit he interpreted this more like a Zorro/Don Diego character than the Don Juan de Marco movie, which was by the way a terribly written character and a stupendously bad movie, so his interpretation is better) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSMDwmbtcb4? TURANDOT? (He's the Prince who is anticipating winning the bet against and the hand of the heartless princess who doesn't want to get married. The gorgeous and elaborate costume last season was a huge hint, in addition to the regal skating.). Sir Hronop would highly contest your saying that Ladies in Lavender wasn't playing a character.
3. Interpreting the music- Girl, you have got to be kidding me. The skating speaks for itself. I only deign to link the great Tatiana Tarasova's comment in the video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np3XnqMwgV4 (comment after 3A)
4. FS- If you haven't observed Shoma in ice shows, his programs are usually not yet fully formed there, and develop throughout the season (as happens for a number of skaters, actually). Moonlight Sonata may be a classic, but I will say this- Beethoven is hardly every boring. Classical music is also not necessarily boring, and just because it's classical, it doesn't mean it would look the same as any other. His MS looks very different from his Beethoven violin sonata No. 9 SP, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xOrWmh7cQ8
...and this looks very different from Winter last season.
Anyway, you did admit to being just a bit over the age of girls who write cringy fanfictions on Tumblr, so you're forgiven.
I too look forward to seeing his programs this season, and anticipate further development in both SP and FS, as well as the two exhibition programs.
