Shoma Uno: 2014-2024

Don't worry, I've had some inappropriate thoughts a year ago already (I'm just a bit over the age of girls who write cringy fanfictions on Tumblr, so forgive me). I have to admit, I watched his short on The ICE and I really love it! It finally seems like a step in right direction in regards to some originality, even though the general Shoma movements that are often visible in his programs are still there. I feel like it's not just Shoma skating, I feel like he is finally playing a character or rather interpreting the music. Wasn't a big fan of his FS so far, mainly because I'm starting to dislike Moonlight Sonata quite a lot, and it's a rather safe bet, but obiously it's his comfort zone that he can pull off.

I'm glad you like his SP. As for the other points, let me just say I disagree. Perhaps you haven't watched him that much. Here are our points of disagreement, as follows:
1. originality: A bunch of his junior programs? Season 2015-16 SP- Legends, a.k.a. the club music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCPzcSMcA30? Season 2016-17 FS- Loco https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eqgI6-DUTc? I doubt many men have skated passionately to a tango-ish program with a woman screaming "Loco!" in the background.

2. Playing a character- Don Juan de Marco (Last junior season 2014-15 FS, although I must admit he interpreted this more like a Zorro/Don Diego character than the Don Juan de Marco movie, which was by the way a terribly written character and a stupendously bad movie, so his interpretation is better) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSMDwmbtcb4? TURANDOT? (He's the Prince who is anticipating winning the bet against and the hand of the heartless princess who doesn't want to get married. The gorgeous and elaborate costume last season was a huge hint, in addition to the regal skating.). Sir Hronop would highly contest your saying that Ladies in Lavender wasn't playing a character.

3. Interpreting the music- Girl, you have got to be kidding me. The skating speaks for itself. I only deign to link the great Tatiana Tarasova's comment in the video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np3XnqMwgV4 (comment after 3A)

4. FS- If you haven't observed Shoma in ice shows, his programs are usually not yet fully formed there, and develop throughout the season (as happens for a number of skaters, actually). Moonlight Sonata may be a classic, but I will say this- Beethoven is hardly every boring. Classical music is also not necessarily boring, and just because it's classical, it doesn't mean it would look the same as any other. His MS looks very different from his Beethoven violin sonata No. 9 SP, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xOrWmh7cQ8
...and this looks very different from Winter last season.

Anyway, you did admit to being just a bit over the age of girls who write cringy fanfictions on Tumblr, so you're forgiven. I too look forward to seeing his programs this season, and anticipate further development in both SP and FS, as well as the two exhibition programs.

Don't even get me started on Sho's musicality, otherwise this will go on and on... I think there is a couple of nice analytical posts out there in Internet which are waiting to be read for anyone interested. ;)

Actually, I came to share another words of love for our prince from the twitter account discovered by Arriba. This is so nice, I am melting from love. :dbana:

^^Aww, isn't that terrific?! And I think many times he has given gifts that are home made by his aunt. That makes it even more special...You can see how considerate he is of everyone else on the ice. Pretty awesome.

award for the most backhanded compliment in history.

Well, it's true. 🤣 Or more accurately, it's been coming on for the past two seasons (there are pictures of him skating to This Town and See you again that are proof enough), but it seems to be even more apparent now. With his Time After Time and the SP programs especially, and it's also quite obvious in his short dance with Alina. He's also more manly in his physique and just the overall vibe now. I'm sure that contributes to the "sexiness". Plus he's more confident and self-assured!! Confidence is always sexy.

Oops, this became a little long, just to explain Shoma being more sexy or sensual now. [emoji23]

As soon as he turned 18, they brought out the "if-I-take-a-deep-breath-my-pants-will-burst" white pants and the shirt flying up so everyone could see his belly button and his abs. That was when he first skated This Town at 4CC 2017. All of a sudden people woke up! I remember someone writing "When did Shoma get so hot?!" like it was a big surprise! I'd say up close, he still looks like a little kid.

Arriba, you know it's not those white pants' "fault" if they really burst...it's because...the LITTLE muscular prince..

Lol, I can sometimes write not so clearly, since English is not my mother tongue. What I meant with that interpreation comment was, that Shoma is quite in his comfort zone, as shown in last season, when he reused Turandot and had a Short that was good but it was also kind of 'safe'. Sometimes I feel like he skates very similarly in his programs, even though they are skated to different pieces, mainly refering to his classical pieces like Turandot or his short program from last two seasons. That might be because he tends to use lots of crossovers in his programs. I feel like Tango is a step in right direction, he has already shown he can pull it off very well, and the choreo is really intriguing and challenging. The free though, is good, but it doesn't really wow me, although that's mainly because of the fact I'm getting tired of Moonlight Sonata.

After all, his legs are a little muscular.

Insert serious face emoji! I laugh everytime at this :laugh2:

So nice to hear from people who actually interact with him and see what he's like!

Hmmm.... So you've given this some thought?

I wonder if folks take the time to look and see what Sho’s feet are doing before, during and after his many “crossovers”.

So Arriba, did you get another gift ?? (I'm here for the important questions :p)

:sad4: No, no gift. Maybe just the skaters this time. So nice of him to do that. Between the media day and all the training Demi-san does with him (plus stretching), he was kept pretty busy this time. The gift is that he was here! Didn't see him today though. One of my friends was suggesting that possibly he has already gone back to Japan. I'm not sure though. We probably won't know when he leaves, but all of a sudden we will see him at the Grampus thing on the 19th. He's a busy guy. He is a joy and is as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside!

^^and your gift became our gift! Thank you so much Arriba for bringing a little part of Shomita to us fans!:love::love::love::hap10::ghug:

^^^ Believe me, my pleasure. This time, he was a little more elusive. Plus I don't know that he did those killer training sessions every day. But that's a good thing! I'm all for training smarter and not harder. It's a long season, and the most important thing is for him to stay healthy. We've had opportunities to see the programs already, and it will really be fun to see how they have evolved by the time Lombardia and Sk Can take place.

Of course he would be a little more elusive now that he is a OSM and a Super Star!:dbana:;)
