Japanese girls have the raw talents, they have jumps and good basic skating skills, but someone should do something with their consistency. I think they might have no Japanese ladies at JGPF this year.

Last season, and the previous season too, girls have to be 4th at least in their first JGP to get another assignement. So i think Yuhana 2nd spot is pretty gone. Unless if enough girls in the next 3 JGPs get worse results. Given the level this season, it can be possible.

I think JSF should start to send her at some seniors B. She's 18yo, next season she can't be junior anymore. So she should start to get points for her first senior season.

I hope that Nana Araki, Yuna Aoki and Rinka Watanabe will do well.

...Rinka Watanabe will do well.

It also confuses me that Rinka Watanabe is not on the sub-list for Japan's JGP skaters. Rinka was doing well last season so she's included as one of the JSF's strengthened skaters. So far Rinka has been skating in local competitions at Canada (where she trains) and winning the Sr ladies' there. So I'm not sure if she also chooses to move up to Sr. or else...

I thought that even if a skater is not on the sub list, he still can be added later. If she choose to move to seniors, that's a surprising choice.

i am waiting for Riko Takino to be more consistent and blow everyone's mind, cause she has everything else :luv17:

I can only assume that Rinka was probably not in JSF's JGP skater selection held in late June. The other thing that came to me is that, Rinka actually trains in BC area at Canada. So it makes perfect sense if she's sent to JGP 4th stop Richmond/Canada. But obviously from the list announced earlier she's not included at JGP Canada (Yuhana and Yuna are assigned there). Not sure if there will be any change or update later on though.

She is more like Rika Kihira.

Because of the 3A? Maybe.
I said she is like Satoko because of the tiny jumps (Even if Riko's jumps are a bit better. Akari Matsuoka is more close to Satoko), but the good skating skills, spins and good refinement for her age. She looks like Satoko in her last season SP. But yes she has some similarities with Rika Kihira.

For me her artistry and how light and airy her jumps look are very striking resemblance to Rika. Not the 3A though since Rika 3A is one of a kind.

Anyway kids their age evolved quickly both technical and artistically. We are in for a great season I'm sure. Finger crossed for no injuries and wishing all of them great skates.

Riko Takino is actually one of the medalist at last season JGP beside Kihira and Araki. So hopefully she can medal! Who is the really contender for JGPF beside Araki anyway this season? i'd say none... so 5th place lower might get 2nd assignment for sure.

Yes. I think the level of Japanese junior field decrease a bit. Not in jumping ability but on the ability to compete with Russians and now Koreans. Ladies' skating in those countries became more and more competitive these least seasons, while it's the opposite in Japan. I think the strongest seasons were 2015-2016, 2016-2017 (it was 50/50 with Russia, same number of medals, same number of girls qualified for JGPF). 2017-2018 was less good with only 1 girl in JGPF but at least 5 girls who medaled in JGP. This season most of girls are 15-16yo and doesn't seem to have enough potential scoring to medal if other contenders don't make mistakes. So yes 5th place and maybe lower can be enough this season to get another assignement.

Though i hope it will not be the case. I want podiums.

Oh so Riko has a 3A? Is there footage of it please? i am very excited to see Nana Araki since she already impressed me last season! I'm ready to fall in love with more japanese girls this season

Quoting myself to say that JSF can also choose to not get 2nd assignement to those who were lower than 4th but simply give to more girls the opportunity to skate in JGP. Last year Rino Kasakake was assigned to the 5th or 6th event as her first JGP. Yuhana didn't get a 2nd assignement though she got the same result than this year in her first JGP (better even, 5th). She medaled but couldn't get another assignement because there were already podium finishers assigned to the next JGP(s).

Congrats to Tomoe and Yuhana! Although they didn't medal they really had great, smooth skating to show off and a few standout skills. Yuhana and her beautiful 2A right on the music, and Tomoe's gorgeous toe jump techniques. Tomoe received a certain "honor" for her 3Lz technique, a spot on a certain "king" video....I think the channel is banned here (rightfully so, they really like to beat a dead horse about jump technique) but I figured you guys would find it humorous at least. In other thoughts, I think Yuhana can make a big splash if she can perfect her 3A this season and gain momentum for her senior debut.

So, unless I missed someone, there are just two girls left from the sub list who don't have assignments: Sora Maeno and Kinayu Yokoi. And with Yuhana's assignment getting switched, currently no one is listed for two spots.

So with 3 JGP events left, 6 are open. So even if both Sora and Kinayu get a spot, there's room for four to have a 2nd (unless they send some girls who haven't been on the sub list).
