Evgenia Medvedeva

Why would anyone believe TSL's stupid rant? :rolleye: Eteri stopped talking to Zhenia after she lost the SP? So they communicated the whole day after that by... looking at each other? Logic?

Does anybody really pay attention to what those, ehm, guys, say? :)

Eh, I wouldn't put much stock into their more gossipy second-hand accounts. They tend to exaggerate and get things wrong all the time

Do not get me wrong, I agree with your opinion about TSL. As a Zhenya fan, i find it important to post this comment, even if it untrue.

"Apparently Brian is obsessed with her" - TSL is gonna TSL

Yes of course! I bet before Zhenya switched he had little shrine, personal notebook all about Zhenya, room completely filled with her pictures and he had anonymous fanblog about Zhenya. Not to mention his Evil Canadian spies in Russia did everything to destroy her relationship with Eteri.

TSL is usually right about retirements and coach changes but I don’t trust them when it comes to relations among skaters and coaches

LOL. I wouldn't pay too much attention to TSL, they get some things right but a lot of it is gossiping or exaggerations - like this, I'm sure Brian is invested in Zhenya's skating but *obsessed* makes him sound crazy ahah.

On a different note, can ACI hurry up announcing their assignments? I want confirmation that Zhenya will be there :hap85:

When you wrote that the falling out between Zhenya & Eteri happened a month after the Olympics, what do you think happened between them?

When you wrote that the falling out between Zhenya & Eteri happened a month after the Olympics, what do you think happened between them?

This is a very difficult question and I don’t think anybody can really answer it.

Personally, I suspect that Zhenya just wanted to have a long-term career and felt like with Eteri she wouldn‘t get one. I mean, she has been with her her whole life and watched her training process. Eteri just never seemed to handle skaters once they reached a certain age and maturity. She always seems to train a ”back-up“ plan once her current prodigy shows the slightest sign of fatigue. Yulia Lipnitskaya was this to Polina Shelepen, Evgenia then was this to Yulia, now it‘s Alina to Evgenia. And it will be Shcherbakova/Trusova/Kostornaya to Alina. It‘s a kind of a never ending cycle. And I guess Zhenya just knew that this wasn‘t what she wanted, she doesn‘t want to retire at 19, she wants longevity, another Olympic experience, the Gold Medal... She wants to skate. And she decided that she needed to leave. But how do you leave somebody after working with this person for 11 years? We don‘t know what happened exactly, only what Eteri told us but she was hurt, she probably was only telling her side like people always do in a situation like this. So, this falling out between the two of them... I don‘t know the why and how and when and likely nobody does. But Zhenya made it clear that she doesn‘t want to fight, that she simply wants to skate and nothing else and that‘s why she did what she did. She gave a statement, thanked Eteri and now she‘s in Canada. And we‘ll see how it‘s going to work out. :)

I also do not believe Eteri stopped talking with Evgenia after the short program. Sounds like they are trying to stir the pot (TSL). Eteri was so consoling to Evgenia at the end of the free skate and before the medal ceremony at the Olympics.

Makes the most sense. Eteri is probably very sad about losing Zhenya although she may not show it. I am also guessing the Russian Federation is controlling of the coaches and puts pressure on who should be on top and prioritized. Luckily Zhenya has enough clout to stand on her own over there. What we need to focus on is the next four years. Will they back her still and will she be competitive enough to stay on Russian National team! I heard on on another episode that Zhenya doesn't necessarily need their funding because she makes enough from her sponsors and work with Pantene, etc. to fund her own skating.

I agree that Zhenya leaving Eteri was probably just a career move. I can't understand why people want to create all this drama, and it seems like poor Zhenya is one of the biggest targets for the drama kings and queens. I always want to come over to the ladies' fan fests, but the negativity in a lot of them sends me fleeing back to the men's.

What is the deal with TSL? I'm pretty new as a serious fan (but a lifelong casual fan), and it seems like they really like to fan the flames of the drama! Yuzu hates Shoma!? Someone forgot to tell Yuzu!:laugh::laugh: Man, I wish the people who hate me would treat me like he treats Shoma.

TSL is just not good. It's just not, I'm sorry. Brian had already said they would work on getting her healthy again and correcting her lutz. Why would they be helping her with the flip? It is correct already. Makes no sense. As for their "source", I do not think it's true. They're known for saying dumb stuff and making up rumors.

if she had won the gold medal would she have stayed with eteri?

People ask this question since Zhenya's departure. You can write 1000 pages about "what if", but still you would never know. Of course even I think about it sometimes involuntarily, but it is unsolvable problem, so its better to focus on something else. We will see Zhenya's programs, we will se if there will be some significant changes in her style etc. and we will see if and how she will develop. That is what I'm curious now, what's done it's done.

BTW our czech sport is solving big affair just now, one of our speed skaters Karolína Erbanová decided to end her career due to disputes with main coach of the representation Petr Novák (even when she won bronze at Peyongchang). It is very harsh with strong language from both sides. In comparison with that anything between Zhenya and Eteri is pure fairytale

Maybe, maybe not. I think she would have left either way but how could we know? I doubt she fully knows herself what “would have happened if...“ That‘s the kind of question in life we can‘t answer most of the time. We can make assumptions on what we think we would have done but what really would have happened in a situation, what we would have chosen, we don‘t know and won‘t ever.

I applaud her for thinking of her career and her love of skating to uproot her life and try to make it to the next games. Just the effort and the decision alone is commendable. If something doesn’t work for you - do everything in your power (without breaking any laws of course [emoji6]) to rectify that situation. That level of determination and drive is admirable. The fact that she is being raked over coals by certain people and is the subject of so much hate completely baffles my mind! There is no need for that level of toxic hate that she gets - and the people flinging should take a look a good look at themselves in the mirror. The best response is for her to live her best life in Toronto and continue to improve her skating. I am super excited to see what she has in store for us!

As for TSL - they do have pretty good sources and get more things right than wrong but yes they are total gossip mongers too 🤣

I tend to take what TSL say with a looot of caution, but I do think this could potentially be true - I'll explain: Zhenya's Salchow and Loop are textbook, she really doesn't need any improvements there. While her flip is definitely better than her lutz, I think both of her toe jumps could benefit from some adjustments in technique (i.e. trying not to pick with the full blade, less prerotation) so this could be why they are addressing both if what TSL say it's true. It may very well not be!
