Evgenia Medvedeva

The new sp has a lot of potential, and I love the new styling for Evgenia. Great to see her skate in a different way that still suits her so well.

I will admit that I was worried about how she would handle the coaching change. From this video, I would say she's doing very well!

Just sharing my appreciation of Med's SP. I like how she kept the character of the music throughout the program, like the little wiggle she does before she goes into 2A and the little dance jump she does right after landing it. She showed quite a bit of sass, hitting the accents of the music, and the performance just seems so natural; you kind of just want to dance along at times. I saw Tat nodding during the step sequence and she was clapping quite enthusiastically once she finished. Clearly she likes what she saw.

It's good to see that they are working on the flutz and attempting it in the SP means they are quite committed to improving it. I'm quite pleased with David Wilson's work with her so far. I'm hoping she can show a great tango tomorrow as well.

I wonder if they are trying to do what Yuzuru did in 16/17 season. Brian told this story in icetalk podcast. Yuzuru wanted to jump 4Lo in SP but it was a new jump to him so he was struggling with it a little bit at the beginning of the season. And Yuzuru is stubborn so when he starts doing something he won't stop doing it. Brian asked him why does he do 4Lo in both SP and FS? that he could do 4T and still win and that it would be easier for him to skate without mistakes. Then Yuzuru told him that by doing 4Lo in SP he more chances of figuring it in competitions. And Brian was like "You know what? You are right". So in GP series he attempted it 6 times. With 4Lo only in FS, it would only be 3 times. Jumping in competiton is completely different. It's much harder to jump with a big audience while being judged. I think it's harder to do a jump with a correct edge in competition than in practice because in stressful situations it's easier to rely on muscle memory.

I don't think so. And if her spins today were all level 4 (I think they were but I can't really tell too well) then she'll actually have higher spin BV than if she did a layback.

I tried counting the spin features (a '+' for a feature). It's probably off and I'm not entirely sure I have all the technical jargon straight, but:

1. camel spin (2) >> doughnut (4) [+ variation, + edge change] >> half-Biellmann (2) [+ variation] = level 3? or level 4 if the camel itself counts for a feature
2. [+ flying entry] >> sit spin (8) [+ variation, + 8 or more rotations] >> pancake [+ variation] = level 4
3. sit spin (4) >> upright forward (3) [+ variation] >> [+ change of foot] >> camel spin (2) >> I-spin [+ variation, + difficult change of position on same foot] = level 4

I don't know. Maybe someone more familiar with the scoring can correct me.

I love her new program, but i'm worried about the lutz. Also the flying sit and camel... I wonder why she took out loop and layback spin.

Wow! Amazing! Wow! Wow! I just watched it and if I sum up her SP in a sentence;

It's like The Extreme Makeover: Figure Skating Edition.

Where do i begin?
Wow no more miming [emoji106], no more busy incoherent steps that don't match the music
Positions are flowing, skating skills are much more improved, faster, more flow.

Even the jumps have better running edges. I never knew someone can change that much so quickly in a good way [emoji2]

Looks like GPF and World Gold isn't as unlikely as I initially thought.

We speculated that they took out the layback spin due to back problems but we can't be sure. And the loop - I think she's aiming for a higher BV with a 3Lz/2A/3F-3T.

My reaction while watching the sp was indeed Wham! Bam! Alakazam!
I reeeeeally disliked the music when I first heard it, but seeing her skate to it made me love it. I liked the program quite a lot. I do think that I kinda miss the Eteri-style packed content, but it's only because I was used to it. I'm sure they'll work a lot and the program will become even better. I loved seeing her happy and all, and I can't wait for the fs today!

I know we aren‘t supposed to talk about this person but have you seen you-know-who‘s newest video on Zhenya? I‘m not going to comment on the Eteri-bashing because I don‘t approve of it but he/she‘s seeing Zhenya‘a improvement on her lutz which is actually quite funny since it was always just: ”FLUTZ FLUTZ FLUTZ HOW DARE YOU FLUUUUTZ!“ and now it‘s more like: “Hasn’t yet changed her flutz but omg omg look at that toepick improvement!“

I never thought I‘d see a video of you-know-who complimenting Evgenia. I won‘t mention him/her again but this just surprised me

For some wierd reason YT recommended me that video (YT doesn’t know my taste at all) and I had no desire to watch it. However I’m shocked if it was complimentary towards Zhenya. BTW I think this person is mixing up things: this sport is called figure skating not figure lutz

Well, I was shocked, too. It showed comparisons of her lutz in slowmotion at the Olympics and this test skate. It really looked like the toepick improved but well... I‘m always sceptical on such videos, the angle might be different and such, so I don‘t trust them. Especially not when they come from KK. But I don‘t even care about that at all. It was just so unprecedented that their video is being complimentary about her. I guess it’s just that the narrative has changed and now the extensive bashing has gone from Evgenia to Eteri but... well. It‘s not like these videos are worth a watch anyway.

So, test skates are scheduled to start at 15:00 Moscow time, aren‘t they? And Zhenya is third to skate, I think? I‘m so excited, I hope we‘re getting videos soon. :hap10:

She's actually last to skate :\ She'll be at 18.10 Moscow time

RE spins: considering they're losing 0.30 with them I'm pretty sure it's for health reasons, we know she had back problems. They'll probably go back to layback+biellman if she feels better!

I'm not shocked, thats exactly what I've expected.

Whaaat? :sad21: Tuktamysheva had her listed as the third in her tweet about her life stream so I figured this would be the starting order. Anyway, thanks for the info. But where did you get that from? Did I miss some announcement in my general excitement about Zhenya and her programs?
