Evgenia Medvedeva

So the next time we see Zhenya in a tank top, there might be some muscle definition in those arms, a “gun” show? That would be something to see.

Based on her interviews, do you guys think that Zhenya believes she made the right decision to go to Canada?

I was a little surprised when Zhenya said that she’s had some difficulty adjusting to Canadian culture. I thought that someone who had traveled so much to different parts of the world would find It hard to adjust.

There’s a big difference between traveling to foreign countries for a few weeks and moving for an indefinite period of time.

I agree with you to some extend. I don't understand why the exciting part of the music only takes about 30 seconds in the end, while the other 120 seconds are just not very interesting.
However, I do see the potential of this being a very lovely modern program, almost like Nathan's FS "Land of All". If the choreography is done well, it can be exciting and refreshing.
I hope to see that as they further develop the program, and of course, I wouldn't mind seeing a 4S in the FS ;).
Saw the close up version. The choreo is good, it's a dark version of Tango which I appreciate. However the majority of the program's music is bland. I didn't feel any emotion mainly because of the music, whilst Zhenya's refined expression tried to convince me otherwise. I do believe that this will be a hit or miss program with the judges. Some will love it, and some will be confused by it.

The SP to me made total sense; I was following the whole vibe and melody until the end.

The Free is the opposite, it confuses me, and I'm afraid it's too late for a music swap at this point in the season [emoji15]

The end of the Mumuki track is really exciting but they didn't use it. The Middle part of the program music is kind of eh. Is it too late to change the cuts of music?

Well yeah, because it is ACI soon, and after ACI, she won't have time to learn new pacing, choreo with new music parts by Skate Canada.

I think we'll see changes from competition to competition.

From Zhenya's interview it sounds like she skated through some of the details that they've been adding.

A tweak of two on the music cuts also isn't impossible.

Brian and David are definitely in the choreo as you go school, not the write the master choreo and be done one.

All the more so since Zhenya is new to them and hasn't had the experience of working with a choreographer to try out different things.

And this is likely why Brian wants his new skaters to start with David. He's around and tweak from week to week.

There is a joke among hanyu fans that Brian's hair will fall as he progresses through the season. I hope people send Brian vitamin supplements because he has 2 skaters at the very top of the discipline to care for; Zhenya and Yuzu, who are all going to different GPs this year. I expect Tracy to go mainly with Zhenya whilst Yuzu goes with Ghislain.

I was really surprised to see so many people show up just to see the test skate. It's not even a competition yet and the auditorium was almost full! Has there always been this much interest in figure skating or is this just recent? Also, is figure skating popular in Russia? I don't remember seeing this many people show up last year. Is this due to Evgenia Medvedeva or Alina Zagitova or both? I know that interest in the sport has diminished considerably in the US after Michelle Kwan and Sasha Cohen left. The only reason I became interested in figure skating again was due to the Russian ladies who are phenomenal.

There is a new TSL interview with Doug Haw. I know the opinion that some of you have from TSL but they tell some interesting things like Zhenya forgot part of the program yesterday.

TSL's recent opinions about Eteri girls recently are fairly positive. Thanks for the heads up

It’s pretty cool right! Back in 2014 the test skates were in Novogorsk and still closed to the public IRRC. Here’s a quick clip of Yulia there. You can see that it was much less attended. I think when Zhenya turned senior was the first open to public test skates. It started to become a show. Here is a clip of her skating there.

It’s a nice place to practice competition level skating and get a feel for performing your program in front of a crowd. I think Zhenya did quite well and I’d give her favorable marks this year. It had to be a bit strange and it’s good to get those feelings out of the way.

I like how the events are also fast paced. No judging scores, so the event moves quickly. But are the entree fees free? They could start making some money out of these test skates, because Russian Ladies are becoming more and more popular internationally.

The entrance was not free, the audience bought tickets.

So according to Doug Haw, who spoke with Brian after the test skates, Evgenia was so nervous that she forgot the first part of her program and went to the wrong side of the rink 😱 that’s why the first half looked so empty and hesitant lol she was in the wrong place and kinda panicked. Considering this she did such a good job at keeping it together ahah. Can’t wait to see the actual program soon!

Evgenia updated her instastory. It's just her showing her shoes but it still makes me happy  By the way I love her shoes and if I didn't buy new one month ago I would probably consider buying Nike despite my bad experience with them in the past

He also confirmed the “go have babies” story.

Doug Haw also said (after Olympics) that Medvedeva is using doping. You don't want to believe everything he says, don't you?

If anyone is at their desk/mobile and can't listen, here is a transcript of the TSL interview with Doug.

I was honestly a bit taken aback that they really went IN on her old coaching/training situation. Especially, as Giver points out, since the likes of Doug was acting very Cold War about it just a few months ago. But I guess this is just part of the politics of skating. Personally I'm more focused on Evgenia's words, which sound more like she's trying to adjust to a new situation and be able to be vulnerable both in front of new people and in front of the cameras. The camera thing really surprised me yesterday because apart from her FS at the Olympics we've never seen this much raw honesty from her about what was going on. Even though politics are necessary to win, she captured people's hearts all around the world during the olympics because of her skating, not because of some he said she said narrative, so I hope we move on from this soon.
