Evgenia Medvedeva

Is there any translation available?

only this with google translation- so not sure if it is all true

A new era in women's figure skating. Alexandra Trusova performed lutz in four turns. The 14-year-old star is the pupil of the super-coach Eteri Tutberidze. Sasha's speech is a sensation. And among men such lutz on forces to units. As a result - a victory with a world record at the stage of the Junior Grand Prix. During the announcement of the results - in the hands of Sasha the toy is a gift from Yevgenia Medvedeva.

In the past, she too was a student of Eteri Tutberidze. Today Eugene in Moscow - flew from Canada with a new coach at the team's control rolls. This year is full and dramatic for her. About the most difficult decisions - in an exclusive interview.

"I remember the first training - I burst into tears. They just stood there, made comments to me, and I did not understand why! I stand, I look at them, and my eyes are pouring from my eyes, "recalls Yevgeniya Medvedeva.

The first impressions of moving to Canada - a shock. Evgenia Medvedev frankly admits: she understood that it would be difficult. But to be so?

"Everyone knows that the Canadian school is skating, sliding, it has always been different. The very position of the skate, the weight of the body on the ridge - absolutely everything is different. Rolling on the same ice with the guys who have been rolling around with Brian for many, many years, I just feel how bad I'm sliding. And how much I still have to learn: it will take more than one year, not two years. I need to work very, very, watch, think, repeat, "says the figure skater.

And yet - the maximalist by nature learns to restrain himself, to distribute forces competently.

"I needed it right here and right now! And it does not matter what's wrong with my health, and it does not matter what kind of surroundings. Need it? Training rental or World Cup. Now my mind works more for the fact that I want to ride for a long time, "- explains Evgenia Medvedev.

The pledge of sports longevity, the skater realized, in the right, balanced diet: minerals, vitamins, a lot of protein.

"I, in my opinion, for the first time in my life in an interview about this I tell myself: that in order to restore my health, I needed to podnabr weight. I dreamed of just eating chocolate, eating it with a burger, I now absolutely do not need it. I forgot my milk chocolate, my favorite jelly. I'm not even drawn. Before me, a watermelon lies - I'm happy! "- says the girl.

So much that I'm ready to drop my chess and sports complexes, and for the first time do it publicly.

The strongest experience of this year - the games in Korea - speaks quietly. Yes, silver. Yes, not the result that counted.

"I always treated the Olympics - well, this is another start. And this is also the right approach. But when I passed the Olympics, I realized that this was a special start. After an arbitrary program, I came to my room - and it was a very small room: one bed, bedside table, wardrobe, mirror - everything. And I thought for a very long time. I knew that if you take this step, it is unclear what will happen. It was a step into the unknown, but the soil there is firm, "- says Yevgenia Medvedeva.

Step she calls the departure from Eteri Tutberidze - coach, with whom she worked for 11 years, a mentor who now breaks the foundations of figure skating. Her new generation of figure skaters makes jumps in four turns on a par with men.

"Figure skating has always gone forward. It always moved. Now again the jump is taking place - and this is normal. Yes, girls can do quadruples: they went and tried - can? They can. I'm going to improve myself, too. I do not jump a quadruple Salchow, Brian does not allow me yet. Because the body needs to be made stronger. In the plans, perhaps there is, "- says Eugene.

Brian Orser is her new mentor. The Canadian, the coach of champions: Yudzuru Khan, Kim Yong A, Javier Fernandez - direct competitors of the Russian school. And in this situation Medvedev - is unique.

"No one has ever ridden abroad from the Russian national team. Yes, they came for an internship. And my case is the first one: that I moved, I train with a foreign coach, but for my country, for Russia, "notes Evgenia Medvedeva.

She flew home to the national team's control rolls: all skaters before the start of the sports season show fresh programs. In a short Medvedev conveys the vibrations of jazz, and in a new arbitrary - sensual tango. Ambitions to return the champion title, of course, is. Question: how much time and effort it will take.

"For me, the main task for this season is to join this new river," says the sportswoman.

Is this new? I speak no Russian at all so I have no idea what‘s being said and whether we already have this posted here or not, sorry.

@carmina: thanks for the translation.

Long time two year lurker...finally might as well make my first post.

The fact that her back is still bothering her worries me. :(

Someone translated an interview where Evgenia said that at her first TCC training session she cried because she realized how bad her skating skills are and it would take years to fix. Now, I don't see her skating skills SO bad... they aren't the best ever but are decent, no? I mean yes, she can improve them for sure but they seem decent.

I‘m so glad for this interview. Brian basically confirmed that there will be changes, that this isn‘t the final layout. They will be experimenting over the season, add transitions to the program and so on. His statement ”it was not even quite a program“ strangely assures me the most. This means that they are working on the choreography of the FS. We shouldn‘t forget that she barely had two months to work out both programs after a 4 months break from jumping. She’s focusing on her health and I‘m absolutely fine with that. They will work on the FS and make it more of a tango. Zhenya has never had two such different programs, she needs time to figure them out and embrace them. I‘m sure she‘ll rock it later in the season! :hap10:

Is there any chance to see Zhenya‘s performance from Autumnn Skates? Will there be videos on Youtube afterwards?
Not to worry.

Skate Canada livestreams ACI without a paywall. It hasn't sold the rights to this one.

You can access it on Skate Canada's site from the ACI page under 'events'. This also provides the provisional schedule. The Ladies SP is to start at 16:48 EDT on Thursday, September 20th.

https://skatecanada.ca/2018-autumn-classic-international/

And if we are fortunate Ted Barton may provide some commentary as he does for ISU, with the support of Debbi Wilkes, a former pairs skater. Ted appears to have management of the Canadian livestreams when Skate Canada has not sold the broadcast rights to the television networks.

There is live scoring also on a separate tab.

But I do caution everyone that Brian and the TCC don't expect perfection from their skaters at ACI, even if Zhenya herself will.

Yuzuru almost always has an uneven performance at ACI.

The philosophy seems to be that it's another step in getting the cooking of the 'pancakes' just right. There will be surely more changes between ACI and her GP debut at Skate Canada International.

I wondered about that, too. I mean, yes, she has a lot to improve but she isn‘t bad by any means.

Hi. Welcome and post long and often. :)

I think Brian and Team TCC are taking good care of her. I don‘t think you need to worry, she looks happy and confident.

Thanks a lot for the info!! You are my hero! :hap10:

I was asking about the videos on youtube because I‘ll be in Spain once Autumn Classic starts so I likely won‘t be able to watch it. Is the lifestream accessible after the event, too, or not?

Anyway, I certainly don‘t expect Zhenya to be perfect at this point. On the contrary, I was the one in the Russian test skates thread who kept saying like some broken record: ”Guys. Only test skates. Calm down. She‘ll improve and work on the choreo and layout etc...“
I‘m merely interested to see her costume and how she fares in competition so far. I‘m sure there will be more changes as the season develops, though. :)

"Zhenya, I like what you did with Brian Orser . I understand that you did not have much time to be together, but I already like it. I will not talk about your falls in an arbitrary program, I understand, this is the beginning. Girls who have passed the Olympics, now physically hard to recover from a difficult season." - google translation

I like how TAT always support her

I‘m not the biggest fan of TAT but I‘m really glad she supports Zhenya. TAT is a powerful figure in Russian figure skating (), it‘s always good to have someone like her on your side and she seems to genuinely like Zhenya. And overall I agree with her. On her statements about Zhenya at least. The others... not so much.

Videos from previous years are still on Skate Canada's dailymotion :) including practice videos. So I am sure this year it will be the same. Fans usually upload individual performances on Youtube after competition. Last year Japanese TV also broadcasted ACI a few days after competition with slightly different angles. And for sure there also will be fancams. Sometimes fancams have better quality than actual livestream.

I believ GniloeFK will sub Evgenia's interview, he always subs stuff like that. i'd really love to hear everything she has to say. I'm glad she's taking steps in improving instead of overworking herself to keep up with the expectations. Taking care of her health before anything cause that's what's going to give her the longevity she wants.

Agreed. She got the all clear to start jumping again in early May. I hope Zhenya is working with someone at Cricket to increase her physical strength to help her prevent a more serious injury.

Super excited about a potential 4S in the future! And glad Brian is not letting her attempt it now that she's still in recovery.

It pains me to read just how broken her body was after the Olympic season - her back, her foot, a lot of healing to do for her and strength to gain. She's such a brave girl, really, making a switch nobody had ever made before to improve herself as a skater. I can imagine how frustrating her first training at TCC must have been, with skaters who have followed Tracy's SS lessons for years - such a tough cookie!

I wish her all the best this season and I'm looking forwards to everything she will learn and show us!

Both Zhenya and Brian have said again in today's interviews that physical training is a priority.

And we know that he has a strict rule 'no pain in training' so she is not likely to be preparing any elements for competition that would aggravate the previous injury.

I'm not sure how fitness training organized at TCC, but they do have facilities, and some new fitness training infrastructure was added recently.

Lubov Ilyushechkina posted these gifs from the TCC fitness rooms in the spring before she joined the 'Crystal' tour. Until Zhenya is willing to share photos of her fitness training, we can at least envision the space.

So the next time we see Zhenya in a tank top, there might be some muscle definition in those arms, a “gun” show? That would be something to see.

Based on her interviews, do you guys think that Zhenya believes she made the right decision to go to Canada?

I was a little surprised when Zhenya said that she’s had some difficulty adjusting to Canadian culture. I thought that someone who had traveled so much to different parts of the world would find It hard to adjust.

She definitely think she made the right choice - she said even a day later could have been “too late”. She also thinks she has a lot to learn from the Canadian school.

Cultural shock is very normal - I moved from Italy to the UK to study and even if the difference isn’t terrible and I spoke the language well it was still difficult to adjust.

I'm a Canadian who did some of my studies in the US, and I still found that I experienced culture shock living in American society...despite the closeness of the language and culture.

And I don't think it's unreasonable to think that one will eventually hit a limit in terms of how far one can adapt.

It's often the little things, day in day out, that become the most difficult to adjust to.

No matter how much traveling one does, it takes living somewhere for at least a few months before it truly hits.
