Sasha Cohen behaviour in past, is it true?

Fossi:
"I didn't post my question to be mean. I just wanted to know if there were other diva reports and well, there have been. I didn't know that Sasha was mean to Sarah and pushe her before too! I knew SArah was put in an odd situation once after Skate America when Sasha made a comment about how Michelle shouldn't have won and Sarah should have but Michelle was right there and Sasha knew it, but I didn't know s he targetted Sarah before"

And of course you believe every negative about Sasha. That is why you initiated this thread and that is why you utilize every opportunity to bash Sasha. Obssessive? indeed. Now that Sasha will not compete this season or next, you won't have Sasha to kick around anymore, or won't you? I can predict that you will utilize every opportunity in 2007 to reitererate all your negatives about Sasha's past, present and future, even if she is out of the limelight. Happy New Year to you!

All the reports are of Sasha in the 2001-2002 season, when she was 17 years old. At the end of the season, she announced she would be working with Tatiana Tarasova, and when she did, all the aggressive, negative behavior came to an end.

Sasha hasn't behaved like that for almost 4 years. So why condemn her for her behavior now that she's long since gotten over that adolescent aggressiveness?

I still think Sasha is basically self-centered, but then so are most people who are constantly in the public eye. As long as she behaves in a civil manner, what difference does it make?

Now now, for every negative about Sasha, there will be defensive retort by others and especially by someone who claims to be fed up with her.

But in all seriousness, I think Sasha could have won 2002 Olys, and or should have won 2006 Olys, and she put negative icing on that cake at 2006 Worlds.

For me. she is an extremely talented skater who should have spent more time on hard work improving her jumping skills. Otherwise, it was all there; all it needed was a competitive spirit which I think was lacking. Sad for me and all her ardent fans.

Sasha did push her way to the front, knocking Angela Nikodinov and Sarah Hughes out of her way. I was a bit shocked by that behavior.

Very bad behaviour!! :disagree: Who does she thinks she is?? :disagree:

A great talent!!! I agree!!!
But she just doesn't want to correct her mistakes. Just think about her Flutz.

I have to agree with Joe.

Sasha could have had it all if she had just stuck with Tarasova and followed TT's training regimen religiously for 4 years. Instead, she wasted her fragile energies shopping and making cookies and insisting on competing when she wasn't in good shape (the 2003 cheesefest and GPF). That ended the relationship and Sasha's best chance for a World Championship and the OGM.

Robin Wagner had a plan for Sasha to follow to 'up the ante' and remain technically ahead of her competitors, but Sasha couldn't or wouldn't stick with that plan either. Her return to John Nicks was a statement that she was done with 'upping the ante' and was going to do things her way. She did not work on her jump technique, but instead focused on choreography and the end result was failed jumps ended her chance for the OGM and an easy World Championship.

To me, her GBA and DROMP exhibition pieces were the only performances of hers I could really get into. Everything else = zzzzz.

I was watching her Olympic free from 2002 and she had this sort of fire and feistiness (sp?) that simply disappeared, I think, when she went to Tarasova. Then her competitive programs after that were a serious snoozefest. Swan Lake? R & J? GMAB.
Surely, you jest!!!! If all of what you say is true, then why watch her 2002 Olympic free skate???

She collided with Arakawa in the warm up of the long program at the olympics and Arakawa was going backwards.

Incidents like that can happen.

You only have 10 posts, so why would you say such a thing? You are a hoot. Yes, I do believe what Robin Wagner said about Sasha going to Sarah and trying to embarass Michelle. Robin andSarah were boht embarassed. By the way, there are fans of lots of skaters on thsi board. Nobody bashes anyone, but we do speak our minds. You seem like a new and very young fan that might need to develop some thicker skin in the future. Good luck and happy New Year to you too.

...then why watch her 2002 Olympic free skate???

Dee

I used to watch a lot of programs a while back (around 2002 or so) when I first got into skating. I watched a lot of Kwan's old programs and some of Cohen's old programs.

While it did happen, and it made a lot of skating fans' eyebrows go up, one never hears about what happened at the 1998 Europeans during the dance warmup, when Ovsiannikov swung Krylova in the air, and came within inches of cutting Grishuk's face. Grishuk's reaction was to say, "We've won so much that I think now they're trying to kill us!"

Happy New Year to you, too, Red Dog...and Everyone!

Were these 'old' programs available? I don't think youtube existed in 2002.

Rinkside, Heather's video page (I'm not sure if that's still up any more) to name a couple. Skating videos were around before Youtube and FSvids, believe me. I also used to make them myself (and still do to some degree).

Well, I think the media and fans have made Sasha out to be the villian, whether she deserves it or not. I remember one season where we heard how Fumie was practicing a spin when Sasha "deliberately" began her I-spin and Fumie had to abort her spin. That same season at Worlds, Fumie was doing a run through to her LP when Michelle cut her off and Fumie had to stop. But Michelle apologozed after, so noone ran with Michelle being mean. I think it goes with the image: Michelle has always been seen as the nice girl, while Sasha is seen as headstrong or strongwilled.

I agree! Talent can get in the head, but you know she has mellowed down a lot and she's not that stuck up as before! She will always be one of the most talented and most beautiful skaters for me, she needs to really focus ( i mean it's hard for us to say that she's not focusing-cause i know she really did) but the immense frustration of always not delivering when it matters the most is truly somewhat depressing for any athlete! Like for example Michelle, she almost won Nagano (she should've won it in my opinion) and she fell due to pressure in SLC (that is also very depressing) but with Sasha she feels somewhat down because she can do them clean programs in practice but why can't she do them in actual competition. I think seriously she needs a sport psychologist cause it really helps in producing and learning to achieve a peak performance! In the past and also in the present the main reason why she doesn't deliver a clean program is because of her impulsivity or lack of concentration, so she should focus on the main problem which is really concentrate, stick to the battle plan and just focus all your energies amidst all the intense pressure and i tell you this girl is going to win!

I hope she wins, but seriously, i think skipping 2007 season has positive and negative effects on her part since she lets the newbies establish their force and standards while she preserves and actually restructures her game plan! Her artistry and presentation are really top notch and she can score really high in this system because of her first class elements but if your going to observe the new season the judges are sending a message that you need a triple triple as much as possible to make it (MIki Ando, Yu-Na Kim and Mao Asada) or the triple axel, so its really important to up the ante! But the problem is upping the ante can sometimes cause injuries and these skaters fear worsening their current non-major injuries)! So all in all its a strategy game for her!

I know she can make it! I just wish she would win a world title! That is my wish for her and i know she can do it!

Sasha without the 3/3 can't beat Mao, Yu-Na, Kimmie and Miki. Unless Sasha skates clean and all the other 4 skaters make major mistakes, she won't win. Or she can try the famous quad. But I think she stopped doing that a long time ago.
And these 4 young skaters are also improving every year in artistic presentation. So, the artistic presentation won't be a determinant weapon for Sasha anymore next seasons.

So who do you like?? I have never read that you like anyone.

Dee

Well that's probably because you're just to busy looking for people who don't like Ms. Cohen to bother reading the rest of what gets posted :rolleye: There are a lot of skaters that I like. Carolina Kostner, Kimmie Meissner, Irina Slutskaya, Michelle Kwan, and Shizuka Arakawa to name a few of my favorites. I also enjoy just about every lady on the Japanese team right now, and I see a lot of talent and potential in Arina Martinova. Sarah Meier is beautiful to watch. I could go on and on.

Isn't Arina just as competent with jumps as Alyssa Czisny? I dont think her jump skills are impressive enough to insure a successful skating career.
