Wakaba Higuchi

I had not seen the dress in detail I thought it was the red, wow I confirm very beautiful dress. the back looks like a butterfly

Thank you for the report I could not see the competition but it is always nice to have the tweets of the fans.

Good luck to Wakaba in the FS :) :cheer: I'm excited to see her new FS and I hope it goes well!

A very interesting SP from Wakaba, even if it didn't go over perfectly. The dress is so gorgeous! Good luck in the FP, I hope she medals.

I like her program but hate the music if that makes any senses. The dress is gorgeous.

I know it is the Autumn Classic but well...her PCS last night is a crime. Seriously? :drama:

Obviously she earned higher pcs marks. But if u put it into perspective or how judges always treat her the marks are fine. They where unusually strict with zhenya too

I've never been fully on board with Wakababy. But after following her since she was 12, her improvement in the last 2 years has been immensely. Before 2017-2018 I think her low PCS was justified. Her spins was labour, travelling and not pleasing the eyes. She spent half of her program focused on her jumps. Not to mention her inconsistency play a big part. From last year forward she improves most of her weakness and much more. Her big and powerful jumps would be factors on her consistent just like Gabby Daleman. Harder to fix but still she proved she could do it last year.

Hope she will prove the judges wrong in the freeskate. I have my fingers crossed for the GPs.

At first, I didn't like her SP so much but after watching it several times it kinda grew on me

I think the problem was I felt she was not really selling the program especially in the first few seconds. I used to love her in last year's Gypsy Dance because I can see her smiling and just enjoying her program. But this time, I think she was very nervous and too pre-occupied with the steps. Some of her steps were slow despite having a very upbeat music. But then again everyone is nervous especially since this is the first competition of the season.

I do hope in the future that she would just let loose and feel the music because it is a very interesting SP.

I do not like to say that but after seeing her SP in whole I do not like at least not as much as her gypsy dance of last year where she was having fun and living her skating, there I found more slow and lack of choreography, I think I change my mind by then.

Regarding her protocol it's shocking how she regress yet it was not so catastrophic, I think after that his team will finally realize that Wakaba to a problem with his 3F.

Wakaba was not well yesterday. She had a cramp in her leg, it affected her practice and her skate in the SP. Let’s hope she’s healthy in the FS and that is nothing serious. ❤️
I think the short program is amazing! From the short clips we got from her summer competition you could see how well she was selling it. She just needs the energy, the speed, the power. But she can’t show those things if she’s in some sort of pain or discomfort. She said it was a cramp, it must have been bad because it really affected her skating and her expression.
I don’t want to worry but I’m worrying a bit... [emoji24]

That 3F had been a problem since she started. I really don’t think it’s worth it putting it so late in the FS and as the solo jump out of steps in the SP. The 3R would have been a better option.

yes I knew for his cramps of training, but even without cramps I was not seen the great Wakaba, I still have a little trouble with his program choices while at first listen he was not bad .
Maybe I'm still too attached to GYPSY DANCE and SKYFALL.
we will see well at his next competition.
She has a lot of talent and is only 17 years old.

Globe-trotter:

yes that dates from her junior year but it was not as problematic as now, I wonder if it comes from her or the management of his team. It's something that comes up every time.

Her next competition is in a month I hope she will take this time to heal and get used to her new programs.

I liked his FS and I think that with more practice it can be great.

I do hope her team helps her get things fixed. Wakaba was the first junior back then whom I saw as the great potential. I was so impressed by her basics and glide and power. Now she just needs to get her nerves under control. The 3F really needs to go or be done just once to minimize its damage.

Exactly,
according to his instagram post she is determined to be back.

it reassures me that she does not give up, she has the means to succeed despite the choices of his team.

Good luck Wakaba.

It is true that her programs are not up to Skyfall, but there is still room to improve it, it's just the beginning of the season, Waka's layout has always had small changes, like when it started with a 2A, then with 3S. To me her SP seemed fun, it's just that perhaps jet lag ruined her usual energy and concentration.

she is a great interpreter (one of the best, in my opinion) and she can also get a very high TES when she skates cleanI hope to see how she progresses, I have a lot of faith in this girl, Go Wakaba!:hap10:

Wakaba Higuchi with Evgenia at TCC, she was there to work on her programs with SLB.

I like their friendship they may be rival in competition but off ice they have a beautiful amitier that I admire.

to answer you Zenskate I think it comes from her nickname Wakabacho, but I'm not sure, at least since she was called that she grew up well and if her team knew how to make the right choices, she could be the best skater.

That said, she always manages to surprise us. There is less than a month left before Skate Canada, I can not wait to see the changes she made.

I'm sorry if this is off topic, but did lots of posts in this thread suddenly get deleted? I could've sworn the page count was way over 100 but now it's down to 88 or so. Unless I'm truly losing my mind.
EDIT: I just realized this was a result of the new posts-per-page settings that the forum is trying out. Ignore my worries! :drama:

About her nickname, I'm not exactly sure how it came about but it was coined way back when Wakaba was a junior and she was proving to be a very powerful skater and jumper at such a small stature.

I found out that Wakaba is not on the list to participate in the national championship. I find it quite illogical, since she's the world silver medalist. I only wish that this doesn't affect her mood or her confidence, she is such a charismatic girl and has achieved everything with twice the effort.

Wakaba, don't get sad, don't give up, and goooo :hap10:

so this is a bad thing and not in the context of having a bye? is this something the Japanese Fed decided or did Wakaba opt out? I'm confused.

Not quite sure where did you find the list...but I don't think the list of participants to Japanese National Championship has been finalized yet. So far the domestic competitions are only up to regionals, and the sectionals won't be held until the end of Oct/early Nov. It is only until after sectionals will we get a more detailed list of National participants.

BTW, Wakaba is list as one of the skaters in the upcoming Tokyo Regional (Oct 5-8), she's scheduled to skate #19 at ladies' SP. (Also Wakaba will get a bye from sectionals due to her competing in GP, so as long as she passes regional, she will be at Japan Nationals almost for sure.)
