Jason Brown

I've just seen the SP and... Wow! That was amazing! He just oozed charisma and confidence, and all the moves felt in line with the music - it was just mesmerising to watch… almost literally.:)

(It actually felt like watching Plushy skate, and the notion that he might fall just never enters one's head - it conveyed that level of confidence to me - and one almost enters a kind of state of trance whilst watching.)

@karne is right, this is the Question of U for new mature Jason. Still definitely a Rohene program, so a lot to love :luv17:

And could I possibly love Ted Barton any more, gushing over Jason even before he started skating, and gushing more after he was done. I loved hearing him say several times "A skater's skater". And Debbi Wilkes, like a river, indeed.

I don't think we could have asked for more from a September SP. I'll take it. Even if I'm not quite sold on the "Blues Lite" of TwoFeet;)

I really liked Jason's short program at the Autumn Classic.

And thank you God, the slicked back hair and pony tail are gone!!!

:hap93:

Just caught up on Jason's SP, wow that was saucy! You werk it, Jason!

It was a great skate! I totally love it! Plus the Russian split was there, love that move.

Also the name of his short program music is funny, I can't believe he made Ted drop a swear! :laugh2:

OMG I just watched @jasonbskates at #ACI18practice. Stunned by the music choice and the choreo. Wow! Bravo, Jason. This is going to be an epic program. Cannot wait to see it live in Detroit!

I really love the SP, but I believe the FS tugs at my heart strings a bit more and I agree that it will be amazing with some more mileage.

Well, the FS costume is not a turtleneck, but:scratch2:

I’m still trying to figure out if it has a “Ross Dress for Less” vibe. I think the stripes save it. They are a gorgeous shade of blue.

Hey I have to carp about *something*

I think the shirt is a bit loose/big. I feel like it needs a bit of tailoring. But I like the blue colors.

I like the FS costume. It reminds me a bit of the shirts used for the SOI men's number, and I liked those. I agree it maybe looks a tad big. I'd also like to see it with 3/4 or short sleeves.

Oh by the way, for those who didn't get to see the run through -- Jason attempted the 4S again, so I think he'll be doing it in the FS later on today-- he fell, but it was a credible attempt.

I find it odd that Lynn Rutherford keeps asking Jason about the 4T when he's been doing the 4S? Although is she asking whether he's going to add the 4T too?

The more I see the FS, the more I love it -- I know a lot of people don't like David Wilson's programs, but I kind of like the vulnerability in this FS -- I feel like we haven't really seen that side of Jason in his previous programs.

He did several 4S in practice, landed 1 and fell on 2-3. He had trouble with one 3A and one combo. He marked a lot of program so hard to tell much. He looks a bit nervy today so not sure what to expect. If that is his costume I hope they change. It’s plain, yes, but IMO does not fit well and is not flattering. It kind of looks like a guy who doesn’t know much about clothes went in store and picked it up off rack.

Fingers crossed he relaxes and does okay

Ahh Jason... he looked nervous at the start.

Yes he did.

But he and Kevin Aymoz got +2.00 on the ChSq!

I'm probably in the minority, but I think the FS can be something special, it needs a TON more mileage, I feel like Jason was so nervy we didn't really get a great performance of it. (Which is kinda unusual -- usually he doesn't let up on the performance when he makes mistakes, but I kind of felt he was really tense the whole time).

I expect the pressure of the quad was the big factor (and then popping it, which led to him popping the axel right afterward). Probably will just be a matter of more time to get comfortable with it. I really like both of his programs this year.

Not only is Jason in a new country, a new coach, he almost gave up skating for the season:eeking:

Every other year, AFAIK, he skated two summer club comps and two senior Bs. This is his first outing. Granted in September, not June, but still.... we are not panicking:)

I reserve judgment on the FS (like the Hazy Shade of Winter part) but the Ross Dress for Less has got to go. I never thought I'd say this, but where is Rohene and the Bling machine when you need him:laugh:

You can't win them all. The SP costume is a winner. Honestly he can do something similar for this program but just with different colors.

FWIW, he does have the highest total score among the U.S. men (yes, we still haven't seen a bunch of U.S. men, but it's where we are) and his SP is by far the highest, so he probably made a case that he's still in the game, at least as far as remaining among the top. But he'll need to do far more to be a top contender.

Well, the SP was wonderful, and there were parts of the FS I liked but it feels like it needs a lot more work. I look forward to its next outing. Bit sad that he missed the podium, but it's only his first comp with new coaches so one great skate out of two is good!
