2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Just the one on 29th.

Notably, in sports 1(advanced novice) there would be Elizaveta Berestovskaya and Sofia Samodelkina. In KMC(Junior) there would be Anna Tarusina and Sofia Muravyova.

And next week is the 2nd Stage
So we won't starve

When will be Panenkova's first competition this season? So far BOrser and Buyanova have received many critics from Eteri's fans. I wonder how they will treat Tsareva if Panekova falls.

I don’t think Dasha falls

What was the competition on youtube the 22, and 23? (now removed, blocked) One of the girls was Berestovskaya who was wonderful, but the girl who skated last in the long program was also impressive. Total score was 183. (deserved) I don't know her name, but someone on the comments said she is only 11. Lisa/Liza Beretovskaya is the tiny girl who was on Ice Age kids, right?

Never mind, question answered in the thread, just needed to find it. Sofia S. She is just...WOW. And the music...more WOW. I love this girl and her program, and there is nothing junior about her skating. As to Bereksovskaya, the spins are just sick. The speed, flexibility.

Berestovskaya competed on Ice Age Kids this spring, and won. Her spins there were insane, and I think really contributed to her win (well, that plus the huge inherent CSKA advantage). She and Akatieva were the only skaters there with consistent 3-3s, and Akatieva's jumps were usually more impressive, but it was Liza's spins and presentation that really helped put her ahead.

Pretty sure that, depending on the lineup and their own readiness, rusfed may keep someone in juniors for an extra year.

I can only see that if one of the 3As get injured or had a major meltdown this season. Otherwise it makes no sense to me to keep them an extra year when they all have potential to be dominant in seniors. If Sasha gets injured or struggles with a growth spurt and can’t maintain her quads (which I don’t see happening but always a possibility) it’s going to look ridiculous if Rusfed has a girl stuck an extra year in juniors who is doing quads or triple axels.

You can always make some of them change coach and you solve the simultaneous seniority problem  (if they remain as good as they are now).

My bet is that even if they are healthy, at least one of them will stay in juniors, unless both Zhenya and Alina mess up entirely whole season.

I've been thinking that they'd be wise to keep Shcherbakova in juniors another year :slink: I know that it's just her genetic makeup, but I have a hard time seeing her competing as a senior at 15 when she's as delicate as she is, regardless of her skill set. I don't think it would hurt for her to stay a junior a little longer and have more time to develop physically and as a competitor.

so do you really think, even if they will be able to turn seniors and will have enough SB for 2 GP .. one of them will be forced to stay in juniors? When there're going to be even more new strong juniors and not enough spots for all of them in JGP...
it's foolish.

even Panenkova and Samodurova haven't been forced to stay in juniors. and they're not at comparable levels ...... with 3A's

Why would it be so bad for Anna to stay in juniors another year? She missed one due to injury anyway and Olympics are only in 4 years, I don‘t think it really matters in the long run. And instead of having to battle Sasha, Alena, Alina and Zhenya for spots at Worlds she could have an relatively easy year in juniors. Sure, there will be new juniors as well but nothing compared to what she‘d face in seniors. Barring disaster, Sasha should be able to win this year‘s JWC, too so if Anna stays in juniors she can win next year, including JGPF and all her events. And we all know that being JWC champion definitely helps. In the end, it would actually seem like a smart choice to me to only let them move up gradually. But we‘ll see what rusfeds decides to do in the end.

But it won't be an easy year in juniors. Kamila Valieva has improved an insane amount since moving to Eteri a few months ago, and will be miles better by next year when she's junior eligible. Daria Usacheva is also very good, and we will see how Maya Kromykh is doing with Eteri. Of course Ryabova could be a threat too, but she's yet to be consistent, which will hold her back.

But at this point, next year the junior team will include Kanysheva, Sinitsyna, Valieva, and Usacheva. That's not an easy field for anyone, and Anna might actually have better luck in seniors. She's at the level of, or above, all of this year's seniors and could be second to Sasha next year depending on her quads.

In 2015-2016, RusFed needed someone good to stay in juniors since just Tsurskaya was moving up. It didn't end up working, and now Serafima is behind many of her rivals from her junior days. Perhaps they'll be smarter this year; they were smarter about the JGP this year so far, so they can do it.

How many skaters do you think will be eligible for GP spots next year and not given them? Russia already maxed out their available spots this season and next season will be worse. Unless three skaters retire won’t adding three seniors really cause a dramatic shift in funding and overall opportunity?

I certainly can see why Anna would want to go senior but I can see why the RusFed would benefit by keeping her on the JGP as another near guaranteed JWC. It’s much better to have a crowded and competive JGP than an overcrowded senior GP IMO since assignments can be shifted to reflect the results of current competiveness.

I’m very curious to see how this plays out. I wouldn’t say it’s foolish to keep one back anymore than flooding their senior ranks but on a personal note.... I kind of hope one of the three stay back because I hardly watch the senior GP anymore. The coverage sucks and I’m over using dicey streams. I hope Yulia has my back with telesport

How many of those four will desire to turn senior in the 2019-20 season

Liza just posted a costume on insta for the exhibition and I’m pretty sure she’s skating to Britney Spears...

I literally cannot wait

Also we got to keep in mind that junior medals are limited, and so are the junior world spots.
We can guess for example is that they will send only 2 Eteri skaters to JW this year again, and the third one will be also the one to not turn senior next year
