All those trash talk of Mira's mom, panties, makeup is just trash and I couldn't care less. As far as she continues to improve, and have that steel of nerve, she will be fine.
Is she the most polished skater? Absolutely no. She actually reminds of Irina. I personally don't even like this type of skating as my previous posts showed. However, I will always root for Mira and even Irina because they were/will always be underdog before that breakthrough.

I was quite mistaken (sorry). I thought Mira was around sixteen--she looks so young!
I have not been a huge fan of Mira's as I don't find her enjoyable to watch. The nonsense around her coaching doesn't help. However, I did appreciate her attempts to improve with her new short program. It was kind of cutesy (for her) and her costume was completely different from anything she has ever used in competition as far as I know. Her hair was even pulled back differently. Even wtih these (apparent) attempts to improve her "total package", I found her program looked forced and not natural; she seemed to really have to work at it.

Yes you are right. This is not a sport you are expected to present yourself with atleast an acceptable degree of dignity, class, and professionalism. Nobody should be disturbed at showing up for your home GP costumed with granny panties showing, holes in your tights, and knee high black stockings showing. Nobody should care about an unqualified mother medling in the career and training of a young skater who clearly needs serious advice and overhaul to much of her technique, basic skating, and style, while others who can take her spot have real coaching to allow them to get the best instruction and to improve are coming up behind you . Presenting yourself looking like an 8 year old when you are 18 years old should be accepted by all, including your federation, your countrys skating fans, and your team, as you are just doing your own thing.
No she should just be left alone, let to do her own thing, including being inappropriately attired to go out for international events, presenting herself like a child, and having her mother involved with her training and development as a skater when she has glaring fundamental flaws throughout her skating. While she does all this her spot as a regular on Canada's World team should be almost ensured.
As an Irina fan I will pretend I did not hear somebody just compare Leung as a skater to Slutskaya.
All those trash talk of her panties, makeup, holes, rumors of her mom is just so pathetic and cheap. Frankly it reflects the very unflattering side of Canadians. They always like to focus on trivial things and most of current Canadian skaters are lacking of competitive spirits. It's a culture of encouraing the weak ones and may I say, the losers.
The current rollout of Cynthia is just laughable. For a lady who are left with a 3sal and a 3toe, those fans are thinking she's the second coming. If Canadian federation is foollish enough to send her to the worlds, it's going to be a big let-down no matter how 'attractive' she is(personally, I don't think she's really that attractive).
Remember, Cynthia ranked in 20nd place at 2005 worlds when she still had all triples.
Cynthia had started her growth spurt in 2005 and was already having trouble with her jumps. Many skaters go through growth spurts that temporarily cause problems. Some can adjust, some can't Cynthia seems to be making a comeback. Let's see how Cynthia looks next season before writing her off.

I don't think competitiveness can be taught. She was never a consistent before. After the growth spurt, she's heading even further to the South.
Joannie is another example. Although she'll probably stay in the top 6-7, I doubt she'll ever make to the podium.
Sandhu, another example., now Patrick Chan is following his suit.
Those skaters, I generally put them into the loser category.

I didn't think much of her skate. I think her Chinese-inspired LP last year (at least the performance I saw - I don't remember which comp it was) was a better example of her potential ability to combine power and elegance.
I really am trying not to focus on her appearance, but why would a skater not try to look their best? It shows a lack of respect for the audience. I find it hard to believe it has anything to do with money. Well - at least she pulled the bangs out of her face. It's a start! The pink dress is cute too.

So you doubt Joannie will ever make the podium at Worlds? I am not sure if she will or not either, I am not yet ready to say she wont at some point. However there is more chance of Wing/Lowe coming out of retirement and winning the Olympic Gold then of Leung ever winning a World medal.
I guess I just have totally different philosphy from a lot of Canadian fans. When I look at a skater, I first seek the competitiveness, not some 'polished image', those things can be altered later on, but competitiveness you just can't teach.
How many skaters in the world can do 2 back-to-back clean programs? Although Mira underrotted sometimes, this kind of talent is huge. People always misunderstand what real talent is.
I'm always a big fan of shen & zhao, look at how crusty, how unpolished, how 'unattractive'(especially shen) ten years, or even 5 years ago. Look at what they have achieved ...
Joannie is not going to medal at world stage, period. You have a lot of youngsters such as Mao, Yu-Na, Kimmie with nerve of steel and 3+3. Then you'll soon have another nerve of steel youngster Caroline Zhang. She's going nowhere.
If Canada is smart, they should definitely be focused on Mira, force her to improve, make great stride.

I do acknowledge Leung's competitiveness and her ability to deliver the jumps in competition as often as she does. However that alone is not going to take her nearly as far as you seem to think.
It takes more then just being able to get the jumps done anyway possable(sometimes not even the jumps done particularly well)to succeed on the bigger stage.
You are suggesting Joannie can never hope to medal at Worlds with young upstarts like Mao, Kimmie, Yu-Na, and a bit further down Caroline Zhang. What on earth makes you believe Mira who is older then all those skaters herself, is ever going to be able to defeat any of that group to win a World medal, particularly when you are saying Joannie cant even hope to.
Joannie is old. Mira has the potential to outlast some vulnerable skaters such as Yu-Na with multiple injuries. I don't think Mira is ready, but even she can't medal, I believe she will outrank Joannie at International stage in about two years.
Joannie will only go down, not up. She'll probably get a 5th or 6th placement at this year's worlds, but Mira Leung will make steady progress into top 10.
Remember last year, Mira Leung did not have complete clean programs at worlds and Olys, she still placed 12th and 13rd. Every season, you see some progress from her. Early this seaon, she was trying 3+3 with new coach, which was obviously not a good way to start with. Simply 2 months after GP events, she did one new short program, had two great skates at Nationals.
I'm glad she's back to her former coach, great chemistry.
What sort of progress has Joannie really made for the past two years except placing a bit higher when other skaters fell ?

Chan's 16. Give him a chance to become the next Sandhu before you start labeling him as such. He might not be skating clean, but he has more polish than Sandhu.

Speed and artistry. I'm not knocking her achievement, but she'll need to post higher scores to be competitive on the world stage.
As long as Mira keeps her horrid jump technique, she will never, ever win a world medal. Elena Liashenko in her younger days was a much better skater than Mira but she, too had some odd jump habits, like a long, drawn-out lutz entrance. The judges held that against her, and although she won medals on the GP and even at Euros, she never made it to the World podium.
At least Elena Liashenko was an overall better skater than Mira and her skating did have appeal.
I think Mira will advance no further than the bottom half of the top 10 and there she will remain until she retires unless she fixes her jump technique and improves her presentation. Jumping is only about 1/3 of skating, and Mira's other 2/3s leave a lot to be desired.

Do you believe Joannie can medal? I'm afraid to say she's going downhill. I really don't know whether Mira will medal in the future since there are just too many talented skaters these days. But I firmly believe Mira will outrank Joannie at international stage in about two years.
