Congrats to Liza! Foot-perfect on all jumps and such confidence throughout the program. Good for her for nailing the triple axel. TBH, it seemed like some judges were so shocked she landed it, that they gave her -1 and 0's for it ;). I think even if they deducted GOE for the long preparation, I think her 3A achieved enough bullets to get at least a +2 average. Good luck in the free skate!
I don't get some of the judges' scores either.

Lisa's 3A had height, distance, good take-off and landing and effortless throughout.

The three 3s for GOE seem right on. The 4 was perhaps generous as she had a simple entry. The two 0s, two -1s and a +1 just seemed I'll informed. Exactly what would have been the negatives on that jump?! [emoji848]

Congrats to the Empress! I really enjoyed her SP today and glad to witness her beautiful jumps in person. :)

Ooo lucky you! What's Liza's skating like in real life? I often hear fans say they look at skaters differently after seeing them live. Are Liza's jumps as big and impressive in real life as they are on screen? :)

Ok, to me her 3A is great but since you are asking, if judges want to be strict, they could think it doesn’t look all effortless since she does take a while to set up the jump(that could be a factor).
Also, you can give a -2 or -3 for long preparation. So those 0s are probably from substracting the -3 from the positive bullets 1,2 and 3. The -1 might be from someone who gave her a +3 but substracted 2 for long preparation, which seems fair to me because she does take a while to set up the jump.

Well, but that standard, Yuzuru is about the only skater without a long preparation on the 3A.

Liza is such a blessing to the sport by showing that a mature female body can get that jump.

She shouldn't be scored more harshly than the men, or compared to a light ladies 2A.

I guess she'll just need to keep overturning expectations....

Ha ha I'm weird in that I enjoy a nice lead up to a jump! In any case a -3 seems an awful lot to deduct for a jump that was clean. Like if you spend a while setting up a jump and then fall on it then it kinda makes sense but otherwise...

Also, I like it when jumps are held after they're landed instead of this immediately do some weird transition thing. But then I'm old school which is probably why I love Liza's programs so much

Yes for sure. They really are amazing to look at!

A short preparation to a jump or a longer preparation with some sort of move going into it, even if simple, it’s ok. You don’t need to have Yuzuru like 3A. You just need not take too long to jump. Take a look at Rika’s 3A. She takes a little while to do the jump but it’s not too long to grant a deduction. I think there can be a midterm. Ladies usually don’t have a long preparation for 2A either and some do 2A out of nowhere(Bradie).
Liza’s 3A is a thing of beauty nonetheless and what she’s doing is amazing!
Also love her personality! She already posted on Instagram story the strange GOEs she got! [emoji23] Funny lady!

Me too! I like when they just hold that edge out of the jump with an extended leg! That’s beautiful!
-3 does feel like an exaggeration now that I think of it. But then, thinking again, maybe the thought is: if you’re taking that long to do the jump, it’s gotta be perfection! It should hit all the bullets, except the creative entry one. So it would be a +5 -3 = +2 which is not all that bad.
But good thing there are different judges who think differently.

Liza wins Skate Canada! But only just!

Unfortunately she fell on her 3A, but the rest of the program was brilliant!

I'm slightly annoyed that people are complaining and saying Liza doesn't have a program - I just wanna know what does that even mean? Of course she has a program, she didn't just go out there and jump without doing anything else.

I for one thought her step sequence was totally boss and she certainly deserves more than 6 in PCS.

*Grumble grumble*

So happy for Liza. She basically delivered her 2015 Worlds performance here, just terribly underscored. Still so happy she won

I'm also really happy she won, especially because the judges really gave her a hard time, underscoring almost every element! How come, that skaters with !, e and > still got more TES due to GOE than Liza, who had one fall on an otherwise clean 3A?
