Evgenia Medvedeva

Can someone explain evgenia's tech score from SC? When her LP finished it was around 76 and then dropped 10 points. Would an edge call, a UR, and a ! really contribute to a loss of that many points?

She got an edge call on her first 3Lz and the second one was considered wrong edge (Lze)
Her loop was considered underrotated. This pulls down the GOR
both her change combo spins recieved the "V" mark, which reduces the base value from 3.5 to 2.25.
It is unfortunate that, had her tech not been cut 10 points, she would have won the gold medal.

Does anyone have a link to Zhenya's lp with B.ESP commentary? somehow all the vids I can find have no commentary or is in Russian.

I just checked on my Eurosport account. There isn't any commentary for the ladies LP. This usually happens for competitions that are live at very bad EU times (Skate Canada's Ladies LP was at 3 AM or something).

Zhenya and Jason hug at the gala. Very adorable.

It looks like they coordinated their outfits with the white shirts!

I saw at the end that they made a point of looking for each other so they could bow together. They really are each other support system.

It‘s so great to see how they support each other. It‘s good when you know there is a person who knows what you‘re feeling and always is there when you need them. I think Zhenya and Jason are going through something similar at the moment. Dealing with the crush of their dream (Jason going to his second Olympics, Zhenya winning her Olympic Gold Medal), moving to another country and feeling like they want to catch up with those who are technically more advanced but knowing that they might not be able to. I hope they‘ll continue to push and motivate each other so that they can achieve everything they want to in the future.

Edit: A small snippet of Brian watching her performance in the Free skate and doing the movements with her... cute

I'm going to hope that the following happens...

Wakaba (or someone like Tsurskaya - pipe dream), not Mako, gets silver at Rostelecom. Sofia gets third, and Mako is fourth, or lower.
Rika doesn't win at NHK and gets third or lower there, and is second or lower at France.
Mihara doesn't win at NHK and also gets third or lower there, and is second or lower at France.
Tennell is the silver medalist in France.

ZHENYA WINS FRANCE!

Then we'd have Alina (1+1), Satoko (1+1 or 2), Liza (1+1 or 2), Zhenya (3+1 or 2), Kaori (2+2), Rika/Mai (2+3)

here's an interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgigxmKN2FI where Zhenya tells the story behind her new ex. She says she's done everything herself! the choreo, the costume, etc
And she says she and Kostov are just friends.
A great interview!! Very informative

Well in this case I just want to say that her EX program is better than her competitive FP which was made by actual and accomplished choreographer  Maybe she would try to make competitive program in the future
Also her guinea pig is so adorable :luv17:

I'm actually not surprised at all she choreographed it herself, it has the same vibe as her previous self-choreographed programs. Her talents are endless.

Thanks for looking!

I think Zhenya could do really great in France. Think about how she was at Autumn Classic and how she looked this past weekend. At Autumn she fell on the loop and at SC she was a little under rotated. She did not step out on any axels either. Step sequence level 4! The free has improved a lot. Many of us did not think it suited her and she wasn't selling it. Well, my mind has changed and so have many others.. I actually think it is better than the short, but it sounds like that the free was more of the focus this past month. TSL reported that Sandra has not even put her finishing touches on the short yet too! It was good the blunder happened now versus later on in the season.

I think her best performance of the short was actually at the Russian Test Skates. She was the least nervous then. Funny, because I would think performing in front of that crowd where your old coach is potentially watching sounds nerve wrecking to me.

yeah, I'm feeling a lot more calm about zhenya... coming back strong on the FS really showed her fighting spirit and that she's plans on staying around. WRT her scores, she lost ~10 points in SP (combo) and ~10 FS (TES was high 70s during skate), so when she's on she will be unbeatable imo. Plus I love how supportive Brian is <3

Zhenya's Windmills of the mind choreo was also really beautiful. As Zhenya said that she wants to be a coach one day it really helop that she also has so much talent when it comes to choreographing and also that she experienced Russian and Canadian coaching styles. She can combine the best of both worlds for her own coaching 😋

Let me share some of my thoughts:

So I have just finished watching the whole gala exhibition (I couldn't watch it earlier because I celebrated 100 years of our republic, but more info from flanker on Alina Zagitova's thread. Lol, sorry for this unimportant info, I'm just so happy about that. [emoji23][emoji1086])
I still can't get over Zhenya's exhibition (and Liza's as well) despite the fact I'm a girl and I've seen it twice already.[emoji23]

But back to SCI. That was long
and emotianal weekend for all of us, but our girl made it to the podium and showed us her new amazing EX program, which was choreographed by herself.[emoji106]

GPF isn't unrealistic. Yoloaxel likes maths and so do I, so I'll try to do some scores predictions as well :) :
SP: Fall in SP cost Zhenya approximately 12 points (including GOE) and affected PCS. If everything goes well at IdF, we can expect maybe 75+ points.
FP: Evgenia scored 76 in TES but went down to 66 due to URs, e , ! , Vs (probably because of her nervousness - everything was great in practise, of course except the Lutzes) and got low PCS. If she replaces one of the Lutzes in FP with flip, for example, and fixes her spins and URs, she might get 150+ points.

That would be together 225-230 points. Plus Rika is inconsistent, so Zhenya's chances for gold medal are quite high.
(Maybe 2nd place would be enough, that depends on other GPs, anything can happen.)

And I want to say a BIG thank you to people who were at SCI (Medvedeva Nation from Tapatalk ;)) for their updates and amazing photos and videos. I hope you enjoyed watching Zhenya (and others) live and it was a great experience for you :)

IdF is the last GP, that's good, I think we all need some rest.

I'm thankful for enjoying this competition with you, guys.[emoji179]

Actually her 2A is lightyears away from what it was at ACI.

We do not know yet the upper limit of both programs. But based on how much she improved since a month ago, I think we know she will improve one month from now for her next competition.

I will watch closely the competition this week to see if judging will apply fairly to all.... I hope so, but let's see.
