Does anyone have experience using custom skates made by Riedell? What are your thoughts?
Background:
Years ago, I used Riedell stock boots (875TS) and I felt mixed about them. They were good quality boots and they didn't cause me to feel arch or toe pain (I have high arches, very narrow heel, wider toe box), but the stock sizes did not fit the length and width of my feet as precisely as needed. For example I had a AAA heel/AA ball and it was not narrow enough in certain places. Additionally I was stuck length-wise between a size 5.5 and 6. I have been using Edea Ice Flys for years but have been struggling to get a new pair of them that does not have noticeable defect issues. The experienced boot fitter at my pro-shop suggested leaving Edea and going to customs. He believes that Riedell would be the better brand for me to get customs from based on my foot type. Additionally, they also are a US company that is easier to deal with and has not been having many defect problems.
I am scared of going back to traditional skates, because in my experience they never fit my feet snuggly enough after being broken in and they are not like Ice Flys where the shape can be altered by spot heating. I want to hear feedback from those who have tried Riedell customs and hear about what your experience was like.
For example:
How was the fit?
How many times did they have to be altered/sent back to get a better fit?
Would you choose them again?
Thank you!
