Alina Zagitova

Well for me she will be skating at 4am [emoji23] I am 16yo and I’m not allowed my devices in my room at night [emoji849][emoji849][emoji849] (though I could easily sneak my computer in) and I don’t think waking up at 4am would be any good for me as I have school exams next week. If my parents caught me up watching FS at that hour I’d be dead [emoji85][emoji23] ahh, New Zealand has the WORST most incompatible time zones for figure skating competitions in Europe. Ones in east Asia and North America are during the day for me, but it just so happens that Alina isn’t competing in anything there [emoji28]

Alina is going to make all of us wish we could time travel really quick, just for a little bit.

NZ is such a great place with beautiful scenery that I think a little time zone inadequacy is easily worth it.

I'm sure you are a good girl like Alina and will listen to your heart and focus on doing super well on your exams. YouTube will be all ready for you to bask on Alina's great skate at a more suitable time.

Poor posture is means the skater’s weight is not “centered” over the skate. If the head or torso is pitched forward, then weight transfers from the back of the skate to the front, which is less stable. You should be able to draw a straight line from the skater’s head to the centre of the blade that traverses the body. Google figure skating + “posture” and you can find items like this: a band for posture training. As I said, good posture means the skater’s weight is properly balanced, and it’s aesthetically more pleasing; looking down at the ice or letting the body pitch forward are considered bad habits that are often seen in new skaters.

Alina has relatively poor posture during crossovers, which detracts from the performance — it’s hard to project and perform outward if the head is tilted downward — and is noticeable due to interrupting Alina’s otherwise elegant lines. (She has the best Rippons of anyone in ladies, in my opinion. I’m often not a fan of arm variations but I could watch Alina’s Rippons all day.) It also suggests weaker basic skating skills, due to the fact that Alina no longer appears to have her weight over the centre of the blade. It’s something I hope and expect she will improve upon, but it’s a legitimate critique. It is a noticeable issue that detracts from the performance and suggests lesser control over the blade than is expected.

I quite enjoy Alina, but she lacks the soft knee bend and easy flow over the ice that skaters who have impressive skating skills have attained. (She’s also younger, which is why I don’t consider it as vital an issue; I assume she will improve with time.) Her skating skills are not weak by any means, and the relative weakness there doesn’t detract from her performance... except for when her posture worsens. Again, I assume time and experience will do their work. But it is a real critique and not a subjective bias — it’s not a subjective one like preferring one skater’s music or artistry over another. It is an observable, noticeable issue.

There are moments in her DQ performances in which her poor posture lessens the performance for me, given how ballerina-esque she is throughout the majority of it.

I know what "bad posture" is. I had that problem as a kid. I don't see anything like that either in DQ, Black Swan, POTO or Carmen. When it is called objective, it should happen to anyone, I think, but for me there is nothing that would lessen the performance for me, distract me or something like that.

Looked on some other skaters, by the way, the only time I saw somebody centered the mass over the skate was during preparation for a jump. I think Alina is attacked because she does not need long preparation for a jump and can spend additional time for more choreo, that's the whole point.

Well, I wrote answer but forum won't allow me to post it and I seriously can't find a reason. So lit is me who has to put an end to this :)

If you want you could send me the answer per PM then we can continue this discussion and not interrupt the current conversation in Alina‘s fanfest. Only if you want to, though. :)

I think I know the reason, why your comment was blocked. It appears there is a ban on the word hater-s now. I was genuinely confused and re-read my posts a lot of times to find out which “bad“ word I used but couldn‘t find any. Then I changed hater-s to hate and suddenly it worked. Weird but okay. That seems to be the reason at least.

Oh dear! And nobody pointed it out? Did you see your other coworkers go to work with two differently coloured shows the next days? Then you would have had the proof: They didn‘t see it as a mistake at all, they thought you were just setting a new trend.

But something like this actually happened to me, too, once. I wore two different ankle boots and only noticed it when I noticed that walking felt... strange that day... as if one leg was longer than the other... Then I looked down and saw why: The two boots had different heels! Both weren‘t really high but still a bit different. But the colours were pretty similar, dark brown and black and it was nighttime so I guess people didn‘t see it at all. I told my friend:

“I‘m wearing two different shoes.“

She was like: “You... what?“

Then she looked at them more closely and had to laugh.

And to bring it back to figure skating... my talents are so enormous I once skated with two left boots on both feet and didn‘t notice it for three years until the manager in a shop pointed it out to me when I wanted to get them sharpened. :palmf: :slink:

Nope, nobody pointed anything out to me that day. I'd like to think that it is because I have such a beautiful striking face that no one bothers to look at my feet. The other option that I've been needlessly spending a fortune on shoes no one looks at for ages is just to painful. My Mom notices it though, as a childhood spent hearing "I can't believe you are wearing your sneakers to this" can attest to. Just dawned on me, I could've been wearing my sneakers to work all these years. Damn the missed opportunities.

You're story beats mine because it features figure skating. Oh you skate!!! That's so great and funny too, I've heard that skating boots are a size larger than your actual walking shoes so maybe that's why you never noticed. Some comfy skating boots too, lucky you, no taped up feet.

When I heard Alina was breaking in new boots I could feel her pain. She is such a great girl though, you never hear her publicly complain about anything, when she is asked she answers but she just soldiers on with whatever.

:laugh2:

lusk8, I mean this in the nicest way possible but here is the definition of bash...

1 : to strike violently : HIT
2 : to attack physically or verbally

As someone who still browses Youtube comments occasionally I can say that if you bash on Alina's skates, there is an army of Alina fans ready to bash on you.

Oh, I know the sneakers talk too well. But they‘re just so comfy, why shouldn‘t one wear them?

I actually don’t skate that‘s why I probably never noticed. I skate once or twice during the winter time but just for fun, it mostly consists of me looking like a drunk penguin and clutching onto the board for dear life. That’s probably why I used the same boots for three years, too. So when that shop assistant asked me whether it was intentional that I had two left skates you could imagine my confusion.

I can‘t even imagine how that must hurt. :( My feet are already hurting after two hours of just gliding around slowly on the ice and she‘s in them for much longer, doing spins and jumps and everything. Ouch! Figure skaters generally have to endure a lot of pain regularly. Probably like all professional athletes but some of these falls on the ice look particularly nasty and then boots issues, too. It really makes you admire their endurance and incredible skill even more.

With all the attempts to rewrite the comment I completely lost my will to express myself, to be honest. I mentioned my writing. The worst thing that can happen is when due computer failure I lose some pages. Rewriting the same thoughts I've already written is the worst nightmare.

Ok I’m laughing so hard now. It was meant to be bask. B-A-S-K.

Moral to the story: never type on your phone without glasses and take autocorrect suggestions because you’re too lazy to type.

Okay, I can totally understand that. Then the best thing here probably would be to really move on. Should a similar discussion occur in the future some time, I‘d be interested in listening to your thoughts. But for now we can leave it aside. :)

OMG my brain probably automatically read it as gush because I really did not notice that. :laugh2:

Now that you pointed that last bit out I’ll share a secret with you: I once went to work wearing two different shoes. In my defense I have this habit of buying the exact same shoe in different colors when I find I model I really like.

So there I was at a client board meeting when I felt one shoe way tighter than the other and decided to look down to see why my right foot felt so much tighter than my left one. When I did I found out that I had one black shoe on my left foot and one red shoe on my right foot. Trendsetting is my middle name, but hey it was the 90s so maybe that was in fashion somewhere.

Moral to the story: never get dressed in the dark in a hurry.

I remember I saw a girl with boots on her legs, one black, one white. They were the same otherwise, so I thought it was intentional. But with what you are saying maybe it was also the result of darkness and haste

You read my mind probably.

If not for zenskate’s sharp eyes my post would have remained wrong.

I had my Mr Magoo moment in all its glory.

Regarding Shiseido commercial.. do you think Alina was legally obligated to name drop Eteri Tutberidze?
Anything is possible, but I assumed it was just a factual statement. :confused2: Now that you bring it up, it did strike me as odd that she mentioned her coach in her commercial.

In my opinion nothing "odd". There is a bad translation (as always). In fact, it was not her statement, but the answer, she answered some question. Real translation: "Yes, indeed, Eteri Georgievna told me a lot about this brand" That is, they probably asked her, just in conversation, something like "Please, tell how you found out about our brand? Maybe some of the older ones told you - maybe your mom or your coach?". And Alina answered, and that's all.

Gosh, people... :disapp:

OHHHH Magoo - you've done it again.

"Bloss - I hate to tell you - but it is still wrong where Zenskate quoted you!!!!"

Thank goodness.

For a minute there I thought you had gone over to the "Dark Side" :drama:

I better get my glasses ready to watch Alina’s skate or I’m going to mistake her for someone else.

Nah, no danger of that, I could recognize Alina in the dark without a flashlight.
