Nathan Chen

Bummer, Nathan didn't win. :( Neither did Madi and Zach.

Not surprised at Nathan not winning, but really disappointed with Madi and Zach‘s loss. They have such a big lead. I hope our Japanese and Korean fans won’t feel too discouraged about it.

With that huge lead, Madi and Zach still didn’t win the award just indicated to me how niche a sport figure skating is in America right now. I hope USFS would find some creative ways to promote the sport and the skaters. I have said this before and want to say this again, I really admire the way Nathan voice his appreciation for his fans: from the SkAm post, the Spur interview and SOI M&G talk with fans, he always thank fans for supporting “us skaters” or “our sport”, how important the support from fans are for figure skating. He genuinely loves this sport.

:otopic:

And some teamRaf news, Ashley would be proving commentary on NHK for the Olympic channel.

^actually I don't think it has much to do with the popularity of the sport. Nathan has won 3 time last year, Shibutanis, Jason, Ashley and Adam have won before too. Perhaps it's just not their turn this time.:con3:

Maybe it's because winning SA is not a particularly important occasion compared to what the other athletes achieved in their respective sports. The wrestler who received the female award won her World Championships and the archer boy won his youth Olympics. The beach volleyball team won an important Olympic qualification tournament.

If Nathan is staying at the dorm, I doubt his mom is staying there for the long term to take care of him.. it would be weird for her to be going in and out the dorm doing laundry for him?

Nathan can drop off his laundry bag at his mom‘s place and pick up later :coffee:

So Nathan has no intention to cut his hair.;)

$100,000 scholarship. But then one year at Yale is $70,000. Still it's great help.

He says he’s getting a $100,000 a year with the scholarship actually. It’s not a one-off. I can see why he’s determined to try to juggle both if he’s essentially getting a free ride at one of the top universities in the world and they’ve been so accommodating to his schedule/skating as well. It’s prob a bit frustrating for Raf bc he knows how fast things can change in skating if Nathan doesn’t keep up but at least they’re trying. I’m hoping he can juggle it all and doesn’t have to come to a point where he has to choose because he’s living out two amazing & insanely rare opportunties that most people will never get the chance to experience (in skating & education). It’s a case of having an abundance of riches and hopefully not having to pick.

Yeah, so that basically covers tuition and room/board. Maybe a small stipend and possibly the costs of using Ingalls.

Yea, which means all his skating money is prob going for his own personal use. Good, less stress since tuition and such is taken care of.
