Yeah, he knew what he was doing, did it on purpose and it wasn't cool.It is no coincidence or bad editing that gave us Evan laughing at Johnny Weir's appearance during the K&G. Every competitive skater is watching the monitor, waiting for the scores. At one point, Evan made the "this guy is weird" grimmace while looking directly into the camera. It is simply bad mean spirited behavior
Not everyone that dislikes Johnny or his skating, does because of his perceived gay-ness. Perhaps some of us don't like his skating style, or are rubbed the wrong way by his personality. It seems like his supporters make more of his sexual-orientation than his detractors do.
When I say that Johnny's personality turns me off I'm called closed-minded and a bigot. So your post rings very true i think that Evan was just smiling for the camera when they were filming him.
However, why is no one discussing Evan's immature reaction to Johnny's breakdown in the K&C. Smiling and smirking at another's distress are not the actions of somone who thanks the lord for his performance.
Why would Evan feel uncomfortable. What situation made him feel uncomfortable, being on camera? Unlikely. The "grimmace" is used to disasscociate yourself from an action, a statement or a behavior. It is a judgemental action used to solicit other negative reactions.
could it be that he didn't know how to 'react' to the situation as far as Johnny skated poorly and is now crying in the K&C and ABC/ESPN is showing it on the jumbotron?
IIf a friend of mine were crying, and they were showing on the jumbotron, I'd be doing more than grimace!

) He wouldn't just have automatically tried to smile when he realized the camera was on him because that's what you do even when you're not comfortable, he was obviously enjoying Johnny's pain. Because 'masculine' skaters are evil that way. could it be that he didn't know how to 'react' to the situation as far as Johnny skated poorly and is now crying in the K&C and ABC/ESPN is showing it on the jumbotron?
exactly, and even if they're not close friends or anything I think there is a healthy respect for each other...
either way you look at it Evan couldn't have won with some people. Had he been stoned faced people would call him heartless. He maybe tries to be sympathetic (I'll be the optimist and say that's what it was) and he still gets slammed...
guess it comes with the territory of the one to 'take the title away'
I do, however, find it very difficult to believe that a senior level, elite skater has never witnessed the self distructive behavior of another skater in the kiss and cry.
I am wondering about Johnny's reaction in the K&C. It almost seemed traumatic. I wondered if it was so much the loss or something else. It appeared that the title meant a great deal to him. Yet on the other hand, he knows that it takes year long training to stay on top. I could be wrong but he hasn't trained as much as he wanted to. Again, I've said this before, he needs to make choices. I don't think with the physical demands of skating that you train 1/2 the time.
As I said in another thread, I hope this isn't his swan song.
I am not sure the LP was the best for him. I loved his lyrical style and missed it.
Please don't take this thread as a place to bash Johnny. My intention is concern for him.
Your thoughts???
Dee
I am probably in the minority, but I am going to give Johnny some credit here--when Todd Eldredge lost to Rudy Galindo in 1996, he came out with one of the most brilliant free skates I have ever seen him do at Worlds...and not only that, the silver and bronze medalists were good, too--it made him want to win more. I have a feeling Johnny Weir is made of the "same material" as other skaters we've seen in the past. He isn't going to crumble--I, for one, am taking this as a positive. He will probably work harder than ever as soon as he gets home.
If Johnny is, in fact, gay--well, we gays have a problem with relinquishing our crowns :chorus: This is perhaps the last we'll see Johnny finish below 2nd in ANY competition.
