Evgenia Medvedeva

Sima Sakhanovich posted a story on instagram about Zhenya with a photo of the two of them. I don‘t know what she wrote as it‘s in Russian. I really hope Zhenya can go to this one event Sima is attending and compete there. It seems she really needs more competitions to get into the mood again and this isn‘t one as important and she could meet her friend there. Is there any way for her to go there if Pogorilaya withdraws even though she‘s not on the sub list?

I also think she needs more competitions to get comfortable with her programs in a competition setting and find her groove and confidence again. Even if the rest of the season goes great for her, I think it's a good idea for her to compete a few times over the summer next season and do shows with her next competitive programs.

Didn't Liza do that this season? Well, she did a couple of competitions over the summer with her 3a, right? Unfortunately, I don't know if there's time for her to add any competitions in the next few weeks... We'll see though

Her instagram account is run by her agent. Has been like this awhile. She said this in an interview yesterday.

It was quite therapeutic to watch her performance at the gala. It was beautiful.

Honestly, I’ve enjoyed her EXs from the summer and after comps more than her actual comp programs this year. I fully support Zhenya getting a say in programs but the programs she has this year really don’t seem to be the right vehicle for her to thrive with on top of all the stresses she already has. I’m hoping next season she can get programs from Shae Lynn borne or Tom Dickinson who seem to be a bit closer to her style. I don’t doubt that David Wilson is a great choreographer but it doesn’t seem like his style is really fitting for Zhenya in the same way it worked for Yuna. I hope she gets all the support she can get between now and nationals and show us the fighter Zhenya she is!

I remember reading quotes from Brian and David back in May and they were thinking Zhenya was going to be Yuna 2.0. Maybe they didn’t realize Evgenia is a completely different person with a different personality.

:agree: whenever she is compared to anyone else I want to say: Hello, my name is Zhenya!

She is uniquely herself.

I'm hoping for that gorgeous Windmills of your Mind exhibition to made into a short program. I love the music, I love the dress, she didn't do so bad choreographing it either.

I think it's not a matter of practice, but what's going on mentally.

One thing that struck me was the different attitudes between Orser, whose philosophy is that Med doesn't need to win every competition, and Med, whose philosophy (according to recent interview) is that she wants/has to win every competition. It seems that the coach and student are not aligned on this yet.

It's not so easy to do. Just now I've read a comment in her support group from one of these nasty ppl. It was later deleted but to think that they would go even there to post... It basically said how awful and selfish she was and now she should suffer... And what's going on on other resources...

Zhenya's interview about all the hate she's been getting and TAT's words of support seem to have sparkled yet another wave of nasty comments in Russian media. And I wonder if it's a coincidence that the number of her insta subscribers has gone up by like 7 thousand.

I think on her birhday she had like 696 thousand. And now she has 699. But she lost like 30 thousand followers during the summer, so...

Nasty comments are always going to be there. Even though I think it's really unfair the amount of hate she gets. But she needs to learn to cope with this. She can do it 💪

Just watched her gala for the first time this season, her emotions are perfect  wish she would make this her short.

I have implied this a couple of times recently. I know that we can't know for sure but this is my own conclusion from all interviews and competitions this season. I think at the beginning (Autumn Classics) she was still fine to not be in top form and took well the loss of what it should have been an easy gold. At SC she was also in some extent pleased with bronze because she managed to redeem herself from the 6th place but after that it was clear that her chances for the GPF were quite bad. Before her free in Canada Brian was very silent and looked kind of .. intimidated ? People didn't like this word but let's say just..nervous, I don't know exactly. In her practice she did as many jump combinations as she could, I had the feeling that the old Zhenya was back - both the style of excessive training and attacking the program. And she succeeded afterwards. I wondered if Brian was okay with this situation because as far as I remember from some old interviews, he wasn't okay with Elizabeth doing "too much" on her trainings as she used to do in Russia. Still, I am sure that Evgenia is listening to him because he's her coach and that's your job as a student - to listen and do as expected.

However, she isn't someone who gives up easily and she was motivated to get through the GP in France. At the same time, Brian kept talking in almost every interview he gave that their goal wasn't winning everything, except for once where he mentioned that going to the GPF is important for her. And constantly saying that they need at least 18 months and that the results will magically show is really a bad idea. It's better to stop talking and really concentrate on their job.

Raf did another long interview with a Russian press. I honestly love him.

The most relevant Evgenia quote:
“As for Evgenia, I think that such a rebuild will not happen immediately, because everything happens gradually. She can accept Orser’s philosophy only with time. When she left, attacks began, she was called a traitor. What if tomorrow Zagitova wants to leave? Will she also become a traitor? Is this a war game? In general, all the breaks up with the students are not easy. Of course, Eteri Tutberidze was like a mother to her, she helped in everything, but the person wanted to go her own way. And it seems to me that we need to allow her go that. What is she accused of? The fact that she found for herself some kind of solution, that she is more comfortable with Orser? Everyone is looking for comfort, children leave their parents and begin to live separately, people get divorced. Are they all traitors? Media plays an important role in all this, which must be careful.”

Other highlights (NOT word for word but just a summary):
- has to be careful with discussing weight with girls because he does not want to inadvertently cause EDs
- at some point you cannot just scold a skater and expect results (this is in reference to Mikhail)
- says that if a girl looks the same at 13 as she does at 18, she should see a doctor or the coach should be in jail 😱, age 16-20 are very difficult years
- talks about the difference in America where you skate for yourself to gain funding, Nathan wants to win all the time but he can’t
- says that Brian takes 1.5 years and he takes 2 years but it’s all the same, it takes time
- believes quads and 3A are special but they are hard on the body, especially if you are growing

Well ... I'm not going discuss what are the reason's why she isn't in a GPF ... On the other hand ... I think is better this way ... she has a month to prepare to russian nationals ... and not tryning to spend this time leading with the pression of a GPF and possibility the faillure when her jumps aren't ready ... She needs time ... Rome wasn't built in a day ....And failling in competitions won't help her ... give her some time and she will be her old self with better technic ...

The media's just mad that they were called out on it, so trying to cover themselves by blaming Zhenya. But I hope she realizes that they're all talk and moves past it. I mean, if all hollywood stars read everything that's been written about them, they would all be getting psychiatric treatment years ago.

Raf has been nothing but kind about Zhenya since she left Eteri. I remember he immediately gave statements to the media in support of her after she left and then said nice things about her on TSL. This is the 3rd or 4th interview he's given this weekend where he brought her up and was supportive of her. I think it's great coming from him because not only is he a top coach in the world but he's Russian and he understand how Rusfed and Russian media works. He's actively trying to put a better perspective about Zhenya into the media.

We talk a lot about how nasty people can be but can we talk about how loved Zhenya is? From her peers, to retired skaters, to skating legends, to young girls who look up to her, to coaches of "rivals", she's beloved in the skating community and I hope that she realizes it. These are people who know her and/or understand her situation and they're all supportive. That speaks much louder to who she is than any strange things people say on the internet. Zhenya, you are loved, believe it!

Are y‘all going to hate me if I say Raf would have been a great coach for Zhenya, too? He has that “tough love“ approach Eteri had, he greatly helped Mariah Bell and Marin Honda, Eunsoo Lim is also doing really well under him and he could speak Russian with Zhenya. He also knows how to teach jumps.

I’m not going to question Zhenya’s decision since everyone and their mother seems to be doing this already just noting that I like him and his well-informed, supportive and never dismissive interviews and think he and Zhenya could have been a great team. But it doesn‘t matter since she‘s at Team TCC now and they‘re still getting to know each other so once they‘ve worked everything out, the interaction will seem more natural. Zhenya is very different from Yuna and Brian has still to learn/accept that. But I think he slowly does. I really like Tracy. She is always radiating kindness and calmness. I hope she can help Zhenya at Russian Nationals. It‘s a shame David Wilson won‘t be there. While I liked many of his programs in the past, Zhenya‘s aren‘t... well, they aren‘t up to either her or his standard. They are good and I enjoy watching them (if Zhenya doesn’t bomb and breaks my heart :( ) but not “two times world champion“ good. That‘s all I‘m gonna say. I hope Zhenya gets to work with different choreographers next season and gets programs that fit her a bit better. I still think two completely different styles at once was a bit much but that can‘t be changed now anyway. I really hope Zhenya and her team get to know each other even better and realise together what their goals are and what they have to do to achieve them.
