Evgenia Medvedeva

I don’t know what the boys were implying with that, but Evgenia’s body has changed over the past year. I thought it was the combination of weight training and working with a nutritionist.

It starts at 16:30, and but is fully mentioned at 17:10. They were talking about Medvedeva's technique really started failing last year but she managed to eke out wins despite it, and that there was more going on than just a foot injury. The implication is that the old coaching team tried to delay "what is inevitable" for as long as possible so that her technique could hold through the Olympics.

The foot injury was serious and was never completely healed during the Olympics. I don't think they were making it worse than what it was to cover things up if that is what you are implying. She had pain injections to get her through the Olympics. It is also why she withdrew from Worlds. I am not sure when the back pain started but I remember seeing her fold over at the end of her "Leftovers" program. You can see it at 5:27. That is the first thing I thought of when I saw her do that because it is something that I do when my back bothers me.

There is here new big interview. I think later it will.be translated. It's good, she speaks highly about her former coaches, about Alina. Talks about current situation, Zhenya seems fine. But, oh boy, they are going to tear this interview into pieces again and attack her.

Wow, I loved that exhibition! I hear Zhenya choreographed herself? If so I think she's got a lot of talent in that area! I wonder if she can choreograph her own competitive programs some day (although that's probably waaay harder to do then an ex, what with all the levels and rules you have to meet!).

I do enjoy her SP and think it's a good style for her when she's not as nervous, like at the test skates and ACI, but perhaps it was too early for a totally new style. Still, I hope Zhenya can get her confidence back for Russian Nats and perform it well there.

New Zhenya interview - she is extremely wise and self aware.

To the people who are doubting that Brian's training doesn't work - I have seen her runthrough and her warmups live and her jumps were all beautiful, clean and sharp. The issue is not in the training at all, it's in the external pressure she has been put under after she left Eteri, the insane amount of hate she received messed with her head - Brian can only help so far with that, her mind it's something that she has to overcome herself in the end. In Grenoble Brian and Tracy were extremely supportive and gentle with her after her disappointment. Also let's not forget they have only known her for a handful of months, so they are also learning what the best approach with her in competition is.

I think some people are judging her transfer too early and too harsh. We all know Zhenya is a fighter that's why I'm confident this experience will only make her stronger. She's a very smart girl and very hardworking.

When Zhenya announced her coaching change in May one of the Russian tv channels said that she was traveling to Germany to visit her doctor about her back to get cleared to start jumping again.

I like the way she answers.

I think those people who comment overtly negative things or are saying she and her team make bad decisions, or that she should go back to Eteri, don't realise that they only contribute to the negativity that could affect Zhenya's state of mind. They are becoming part of the problem by thinking they know better than the team itself or Evgenia herself. We cannot judge a painting by the first strokes of an artist. Instead, we should look at the entire artwork when it's done and is ready to be shown to the world.

She said she is not the Queen. This is true because she is the Tsarina! :) Actually she is the Tsarina in exile, hidden away in Canada, being prepared by her mentors until the time is right for her to reveal herself to the world and regain the throne. :)

This is actually a running theme throughout Russian history, not just the whole Anastasia mythos of the 1950's/1960's when everyone thought she was still alive (or the Crown Prince). Multiple times throughout Russian history the people gathered around a rumor of an "heir" who was supposed to have been dead but was thought to be alive somewhere.

I hope that this interview serves as a release of her pent up frustrations about the negativity that she's been unfairly getting, and that she is really able to focus on getting ready for Russian Nationals. The best way to make people shut up would be to do well there (not perfect, as we know the process is still underway), but do better than she has shown so far this season.

I don't understand some of the fans who always put down either one of Zagi or Med and create conflict/tension for them and their other fans. Both girls skate for Russia. If one of them fails, it's also a lost for the whole Russian team. They are both respectful as such hardworking girls at such young age. On the other hand, assume Med didn't switch to Orser, she wouldn't be better anyway and would retire sooner or later. She is smart to do the switch. I won't worry about her not making the final this year. She has helpful resources around. As long as she works hard, she will be fine.

It is Monday, guys, and Russian officials decided to react to Zhenya's words. Gorshkov said a few words of support and so did Renat Layshev who immediately got a real sh*tstorm in his Instagram - what a drama...

I just read Layshev's post and liked it a lot but the fact that comments are disabled should've told me that people didn't take it well. :palmf: The truth is really a trigger for some human beings.

We’re used to seeing and reading about friendly, bubbly Zhenya. This interview gave us a glimpse of an aggravated and combative Evgenia. I don’t blame her for feeling that way though.

I’m glad that Evgenia seems committed to working on her mental preparation for competitions with Tracy and Brian as much as on her jumps and program run throughs. I was worried about her after her free program.

I thought the boys at TSL made some great points about Evgenia’s situation. They said that she needs time to rebuild her basic skating skills and jumping technique. She’ll be able to sell both programs much better when she’s confident about the elements. Makes sense.

I hope she doesn't read the articles. I hope she doesn't read anything from Russia! That is too much even for me..
