I trust that they made the best choice for him and his career. It’s really an unfortunate situation, and I so wish to see him at GPF, but his health is the priority. Recover quickly Yuzu! 🙏

The degree of his injury isn't necessarily worse than originally suspected. (knocking wood) I didn't see anything in the article saying that anything has changed. Hopefully it's more a matter of how even if it does heal completely in 3 weeks, that leaves him less than a week to prepare for the GPF.

I do hope so. Guess I have the tendency to become a worrywart when it comes his injuries.

Is there any mention of Nationals or any hinting about it in these articles? I hope Yuzuru doesn’t feel obligated to attend since it should still be in his rehab period.

I'd say by implication he won't be competing at an event in his rehabilitation period.

I can't say I'm surprised, and while I'm sad that he can't challenge for the GPF - especially given that he was clearly the frontrunner based on the scores so far - I am glad he has been sensible and will keep healing rather than risk worse damage.

Sending heaps and heaps of karmic healing wishes to him...

Or no.. That means no nationals right?
And maybe no worlds?

I'd say the aim is to build up his strength for Worlds.

So, according to the news its 3 weeks rest & 1 month rehab ? Means till end Dec or early Jan 2019.

WC starts 20 March 2019. Plenty of time.

Yuzu just as much as I wanted to see you in GPF, thank you for prioritizing your health.
We will be waiting for you.
And throw yourself a birthday party, you deserve it.

I am sad but not surprised; I have been mentally preparing myself for this announcement, as I am sure many of you here have been as well. Again I am reminding myself that no matter how much we'd like to see him at the GPF, his desire to be there and the frustration of not being able to do so trump all of us.

I hope his family can join him in Canada on his birthday this year again like they had done so before.

It’s good, he made the right choice. I’m also glad it was announced before the deadline, so Keegan (who probably knew that he’d likely go to Vancouver) could get ready fully. In theory he could try for Nationals (and he probably wants to), but that could be unwise. Let’s wait and see what’s next, his goal is World after all.

This is what I expected. I’m glad he withdrew. Even if he could have stretched the limits of medical opinion and gotten cleared for GPF, he wouldn’t be happy with his performance, since he’s been off ice.

Better to focus on Worlds, and hopefully 4CC. The latter is the only major title he doesn’t have. If he wins 4CC, he has the career Grand Slam locked up.

I am sad. I know it's the right thing to do and I'm glad he's taking proper time to heal. I am just sad it happened in the first place

I am sure it will just make him come back stronger though, he always does.

Good decision by Yuzuru and his team, I hope the rehab will go well and he can go back to the normal training soon. And I hope he will skip Japanese nationals if necessary, he does not need to listen to the noise. It would be nice if we were able to see him in 4CC :)

Now I think I am going to take the time to read "Team Brian" finally. (I bought it around GP of Helsinki but I couldn't settle myself during GPS )

I am just happy the diagnosis is still 3 weeks of rest. Because previously the 3 weeks diagnosis was done before he did the free program, not after. I was so scared he could have aggravated the injury a lot more. Obviously I don't totally trust what Yuzu or JSF say when it comes to his health , given the Olympic injury was so much worse than initially reported, but at least on paper it hadn't become worse. I hope this rehabilitation period also gives him the time to tweak his free program choreographically, I think enough data has been collected to know what the judges like and not like, and adjust accordingly.

Decided to withdraw from the GPF could be the best choice for Yuzu at this time, hope the rehab will go well. May the power of Pooh be with you, yuzu chan

Does this mean he will likely go to 4CC to regain his competition experience before Worlds? I don't think he will make it in time for Nationals.

I can't believe it is the same situation as pre-olympics. [emoji30] [emoji20]

If he's fit, I think he will.

He really wanted to skate in Moscow to pay his tribute to Plushenko and Russian figure skating.
He could do the same in Anaheim/California for Johnny and US skating, too. That would be the best stage for a great comeback :agree:
Plus: he has never won 4CC yet. The only major title missing in his XXL medal collection.

This season seems to be a time travel back to his origin indeed:
ACI in his new home Canada, GP Finland in Helsinki (THE place of positive memories), COR and 4CC as tribute setups and finally Worlds in his home country Japan...

Get well soon, Yuzu :ghug:

*Sidenote: I think it was faith that he announced his withdrawal today. I planned to upload a GPF preview video tomorrow (3/4 finished with Yuzu included), but it would've had a bittersweet taste after all... so I won't release it now but take the existing cut and adjust it for worlds :rolleye:
