What a special day for me.
I really like both of them.
Sorry it's difficult for me to explain.
I almost cried when I read Itsuki's book.
Especially Shoma couldn't skate because he injured when he was junior.
And I really want to say thank you to all the Shoma's family, Mihoko-sensei and Machiko-sensei to support him, and Mao to have found him.
I love Shoma all the more.

I don't know if it is relevant, but especially in light of the very recent injuries and struggles of other skaters in the sport, it must be a million times more difficult for their family and closest ones to watch the skaters in pain, physically, emotionally, or even mentally. I'm really glad and thankful that Shoma is surrounded with people who loves and cares about him which allows him to be the person and skater that he is right now, and of course I'm happy that Itsuki is able to share his perspective on it.

Better late than never. Here's the Finnish broadcast translations of Shoma's Skate Canada performances. I'm not a professional translator, this is just for fun. Commentators are J = a judge in singles and pairs at World Championships level and A = a coach and a commentator
Skate Canada SP
A: Here comes second at Worlds, second at Olympics. Japan’s Shoma Uno. He is totally different kind of skater (compared to Keegan Messing), has totally different way of movement and a great jumper and a good performer.
J: A fine 4F. This will earn him lots of points. Basic value 11 points. In the jump combination Shoma Uno has difficulties with the landing of the last jump. Flying camel spin went excellently. Also the sit spin fit music really well. 3A isn’t going well today but still he quickly continues the program.
A: The takeoff is slightly uncompleted and the timing isn’t optimal. He starts the rotation too early and because of that the jump goes askew. That’s why the wild fall.
J: That doesn’t seem to bother him that much in this step sequence. He’s able to follow the accelerating tempo and does the turns with good quality. For example that twizzle. He is also able to fit this combination spin well into the changes in music.
A: A great program also from Shoma Uno. It’s a shame that there were a few big mistakes that will cost him points.
J: Yes, in this season the judges have gotten clear instructions that if the program contains a significant mistake, a fall or some other big mistake or there are several mistakes, how much (as in numbers) it needs to show in PCS. Before there hasn’t been this precise instructions like there is now. For example in this program there were two significant mistakes. This fall and before this in the combination…in the landing the landing edge is missing and the step out from it. And that means that he can’t get the highest PCS. They will stay a little over 9 or under.
A: We can see it here. Shoma Uno who normally gets better PCS than even the technical score. This time they’re slightly under it.
Skate Canada FS

He really gave his all with this program and really is a trooper. I was left wondering with the last landing if his leg was twisted…don’t know. Here with the slow-mo we can see the flying and easy looking jumps. Here we come to the flip that is one of his strongest jumps. The takeoff is so light and fast. 3A also leaning on the edge, the whole airtime is leaning on the edge so the landing is powerful. That kind of look (his face after) tells that not everything is ok with the body but those falls looked like nothing dramatic happened. But it doesn’t need to show if something is slightly twisted or there is stress. And that is common with jumpers his calibre when there is so much repetition. The body reacts and sometimes you should take a break. Second at Worlds, second at Olympics and also second at 4CC. This man has a strong aspiration to the top of the podium. We will see during this season if he has what it takes. Uno will get high points. FS 188 and then some and you can see from everything that he is on a whole nother level as others. These ones of the Uno brothers when they are little are just priceless. They really do look like best little buddies! And now only a few more days wait for the GPF. Thank you for your translation Bel. It's always much harder doing it from your language to a foreign language, so I appreciate the time it took you to do that. Always interesting to hear the commentary of other broadcasters. I'm wondering if they will all do commentary for the GPF. Let's hope so!
