2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I was waiting for 'Anna is done!!' but noone started...

Nah seriously tomorrow imho Alina and Alena K(ostornaia) can both secure silver with a clean skate. To win, their opponents (Rika and Sascha) need to mess up.

Meanwhile Liza and Anna will get bronze if they deliver clean.

Jgpf and gpf is practically the same '_'

I think Anna needs both 4Lz to catch a clean Alena K(anysheva) though... Any practice reports?

Practice reports:

Sasha and Anna both landed many quads in practice, but both did not have a clean run-through. Anna did 4Lz-3T but not the second 4Lz, and Sasha did 4Lz-3T, popped 4T and fell, and I’m not sure what happened to her second 4Lz but there’s no video so it seems like she fell?

Alena (Kostornaia) did many 3-3s and 3-3-3s in practice. Only stepped out once.

As for Alena (Kanysheva), Nastya, and Ye Lim, I know nothing. I couldn’t find much on Instagram other than a video of Nastya doing 3Lz-3T-3T.

And here it says Sasha did so many quads they couldn‘t even all be filmed. Her run-through wasn‘t optimal but she looked strong and confident.

Anna apparently looked much better too.

I think Anna can easily secure a medal for herself. She only needs to land one of those quads (preferably the one in combo) Sasha is practically secured to win. I‘m an Alena fan but she said it herself in an interview after the SP: she‘s proud for having won the SP and happy but she knows in the FS Sasha has such a difficult content nobody could possibly beat her. Anna could have stood a chance but not with that SP. Alena has an advantage over Anna from the SP so she might be able to secure a silver. Overall, I think that Alena and Sasha have good chances for a medal and Anna as well. Little Alena Kanysheva probably has to hope for Anna to make mistakes. I hope every lady will do their best and skate clean.

As for seniors: I think it will either be Alina or Rika for gold and Liza for bronze if she doesn‘t fall on her 3A. I don‘t think Liza can possibly get the silver unless one of the top two bombs completely.

Bradie Tennell had a bunch of uncalled URs in her SP:drama:

If that's true that's ridiculous and very unfair. Can Anastasias coaches complain about this to the judges or some kind of counsel in Zagreb? I don't want to see the same thing in the free skate. It seems like the judges may be out to bring down the Russian girls this season.

If Bradie or someone else wins I hope it's because they deserve it and not because judges looked the other way.

Lol. Judges trying to bring down Russian girls. Are you kidding me? There are so many URs from Alina, Konstantinova and co. which were not called this season and non of you complained. Such hypocrits. LOL

There is no conspiracy against Russian figure skaters. The only one I‘d be inclined to say was underscored this season is Polina Tsurskaya on her 2A. And maybe Masha Sotskova who continues to get low PCS now that she’s not Russian #3 anymore. But the rest? On the contrary, they were judged rather generously.

Also all the Russian judges and Tech specialists have been kidnapped and replaced by body-doubles! There's no point in complaining to the counsel in Zagreb because all the members of the counsel are also members of the Anti-Russia League of Croatia! Outrageous!!

.

Watching Eteri’s juniors roll up and practice seems like about the closest thing to getting a real life Hogwarts experience. I mean...it’s just so captivating and it looks downright otherworldly. Thanks for sharing!

Tarakanova is probably like ...meh... whatever :handw:

Usually not every girl (sportsman or woman, pair or team) deserved to be kept low. Only those dangerous.

Alina indeed got a pass on her combo while Liza got called on her 3A<. If they had called Alina’s combo, she would only have a 3 point lead on Liza. Hoping that the panel in the free makes consistent tech calls and not turn a blind eye for favoured competitors.

I'm kind of late but just wanted to drop this here. Sasha Trusova gave the performance of the night for me (SP).

Sam-Skwantch, I finally understood what you meant about her skating skills. She really isn't far behind Alena at all. I was absolutely thrilled. And I love the dress, it suits perfectly the "killing mode"

She’s 16, growing, and there are four more years until the Olympics. Let her and her team work through things at their own pace. Figure skating shouldn’t be about gold or bust and fans shouldn’t act like a skater who can’t deliver 110% every time should just be discarded for the next thing

You miss understand me, that’s exactly what I’m saying.

She should be going for the 3A and 4S and 4Lz she’s apparently training this season even though being unsuccessful in those elements may mean she’s isn’t winning.

Next season it will be too late to start trying as her team mates will already be doing it successfully in theory.

Tbh I would say there is next to no chance that Zag will make the next Olympic team in Russia. And I doubt Eteri and co will even care. They will have several new girls that have long surpassed Alina.
