hoping her new SP goes well! And maybe she'll bring back OCS next season or the one after, after she gets used to new technique and stuff

I hope her spins are back in shape. Gotta wonder how bad the back unjury reall was, seeing how long she's not been able to do a lot of them...

Sima Sakhanovich said in her latest interview that it was a compression fracture.... which is pretty bad.
Excited for the new SP!

I'm not a big fan of Tosca music wise, but I think Zhenya can do really good things with it and I think it's definitely more in her wheelhouse. I'm interested to see what Misha's choreography looks like on her.

Well as far as we know Wilson and Sandra have not worked on Evgenia's short program since September because they are travelling all the time for their Javi show. That is why her short got worse throughout the season + the stress she is under. I think changing the short really was the only option they had. Because OCS did not progress for months.

I've been disappointed in the past with Wilson's choreo for Yuzuru's competitive programs. Thank goodness for Jeff and Shae-Lynn! If Wilson and Sandra don't have time, maybe they should stick to Exhibitions.

Oooh I was so nervous to watch nationals and now I’m really excited! We know she’s been skating better in practice than in comp so hopefully this change will boost her confidence! Sending evgenia all my positive vibes for her skates!! [emoji304]

Medvedeva was first coming to Saransk (2019 RusNats home town) landing a full day before all others.
It may be a smart move for better acclimatization.
Wishing her all the best and victories of cause.

Guys let's stay positive and remember that last year they changed the lp in about 20 days between Nepela Trophy and Japan Open. So we know that she can do it, although it might be harder this time. But also considering how many times she'd change the gala piece each year, that is further proof that she is capable of it.

Also, at least this is making me excited for the competition instead of just worried for her lol.

The guys on TSL said that they got confirmation that Evgenia is really doing Tosca as her short program now. They were not allowed to talk about it last week but could announce it now

Not gonna lie, I loved Orange Coloured Sky, it was something new and different for Zhenya. I'm sure the new SP will be good, though. The gold dress sounds awesome!

Changing a program mid-season isn't entirely unheard of Plushy changed his LP mid-Olympic season in 2002, worked out pretty well.

Oh, that does sound bad... was it the spine? Hope it's properly healed at this point. Does anyone know how long an injury like this takes to heal completely?

So Tosca it is? Hm, I still haven‘t decided what to think of that but of course I hope that this new start will be positive for her and that she doesn’t have a mental block for the SP anymore. But of course it‘s also risky, they didn‘t have much time - actually they had barely any time at all - and Nationals is probably the most important competition of the season for her. I’m also a bit sad to see OCS go, I admittedly loved it, it was a great and fun program and she was visibly enjoying it at test skates, ACI and even SCI before that haunting mistake on the combo. I was hoping for her to ‘get it‘ after some time, as to not having to see it as a “failure“. However, if the new program is more to her style, it might very well work out. Zhenya has shown that she can learn new choreography very quickly, now it‘s just a matter of her nerves, whether or not she‘ll be able to not succumb to the pressure. I wish her all the best but continue to keep my expectations low. We‘ll see. Maybe I‘ll be pleasantly surprised. That would be great. :)

I honestly wonder why we never heard about if before she moved to Orser... not trying to imply something here (but still implyig anyway) but an injury like this can‘t have formed only after the Olympics. It must have been present there, too. All we ever got to hear was the foot injury, though and even that only when it was so bad she had to face the possibility of her missing the Olympics. Makes me wonder how badly injured she really was/is. Not making any accusations just plainly saying that to my eye, this is simply strange. I hope she is fully healed at this point but this frankly leaves me quite worried. Back injuries are dangerous for figure skaters and hers doesn‘t seem to be an easy one. I’m hoping so much for her to be healthy, especially after everything she went through this season and the season past. Please be well, Zhenya!!

First time we heard about the back was in the early off-season, if I remember correctly? I'm absolutely sure her foot and back injury happened at about the same time. It's possible that the severity of the back injury wasn't discovered until it was made way worse during her blitz-preparations for the Olympics and then the games themselves. Or her and her team knew about the back all along and just didn't want to make it public, as is common in this sport... it always worries me when we hear of skaters performing with serious injuries, especially when it's the spine.

That‘s what so worrisome for me. That athletes and especially skaters perform so often with injuries we don‘t even know of. And spine injuries are the most dangerous, that‘s why I‘m so shocked to hear about it being so serious only now. I might be overreacting but I have the names of Radionova and Pogorilaya in my head and we all know what back injuries do to them. I just hope Zhenya is fine and we probably shouldn‘t put blame on anyone but destiny or something. But it still scares me to see how severe the injury really is and to witness the effects of it firsthand, e.g in her spins. I just hope she is fine, there‘s nothing else I can really do anyway.

I think with her injury she is in the best hands. Yuna also had a serious spine injury and she was able to manage it under Orser, she had to quit jumping her loop but was still able to do layback spins. I think Orser has enough experience to help Evgenia recover from the injury. Fingers crossed

Well, but as amazing as Yuna was, she competed in a different era. There it was allowed to do 3 2A and scrap a triple without much consequence. Can you imagine that now, with tons of skaters performing programs with seven clean triples and some even 8 triples? I can’t. That‘s why I hope Zhenya is healthy because otherwise, competing with the youngsters will be close to impossible and her goal is - after all - Beijing 2022. There is only so much you can do with injuries like that. While I do know and am assured of that she‘s being taken care of by specialists who know what they‘re doing, I‘m still worried.

But let‘s not focus on negative things and maybe talk about something a bit more exciting. Like a new SP dress for example. Gold! Sounds really interesting to me.

Yeah, Anna Pogorilaya going on the ice with what unmistakably were back braces underneath her skating dress during her last GP showing was pure horror. I still get angry at her coach for allowing that.

Anyway, hearing this worries me as well, but I think it's a good sign Zhenya's team approach the topic very seriously and are careful with the spins. And no wonder Zhenya and Brian both stress her health so much in interviews.

I am glad that her team takes care of her and hope she will be fine. That‘s the only thing we can do.

Anyway: dress!

Something like this for Tosca? (I know it‘s not her dress since dress makers never publish dresses before the skater wears them) You have to educate me what colours would suit this opera... I heard it‘s dramatic so this dress might be too cute and light but other than that I don‘t know a whole lot.

Not sure if they’ll go this route, but Maria Callas was pretty iconic as Tosca:
