Brian Joubert vs Evan Lysacek WOW!
Daisuke Takahashi, Nobunari Oda and Jeffrey Buttle!

Mao Asada vs Yu-Na Kim, Kimmie Meissner, Carolina Kostner, Miki Ando, Emily Hughes and Alissa Czisny!

WOW! WOW ! WOW!

If we combine scores from 4CCs and Euros, how's the preliminary worlds shaping up? Given no YuNa or Mao but I'm just curious. I'd like to say this world championship is wide open, but given the location I have to  a little...I think someone is waiting to shine in Japan...and I think it'll be someone local...(think irina in moscow)

I can't wait.

I hope the american girls find some consistency in their jumps. I can't wait to see Emily's triple/triple. I also want Evan to win the World championships. I also have a little soft spot for Joanie. I hope she does well also.

I just hope my non-Japanese favorites get to Tokyo plenty early. It's a big time change.

But my real favorites this season - Mao, Miki and Takahashi - are all Japanese. I think they're the best, so I hope there is no sneering at the "Japanese-biased" Worlds medals.

ETA: Actually on looking at the judges list from the Judging Controversy thread, there seem to be NO grounds for such a charge anyway.

The men's event is getting a lot of attention with the "Evan vs. Brian" going on at the moment; however it's really hard to say how it'll all go. We haven't had everyone compete against each other this season with their new programs, so there's nothing to go on besides what we already know.

If Brian skates the way he did at Cup of Russia at Worlds, I'm not sure anyone else has a chance of overthrowing him. His program, when perfect, seems pretty much insurmountable. I'm really looking at Takahashi, Buttle, and Lysacek as the contenders for the rest of the podium.

In the Ladies, many people are pulling for Meissner; however, the asians are looking fantastic so far. Mao hasn't had a chance to show her stuff at World's yet though; Yu-Na might have troubles due to her many injuries this season.

Ice Dance is the only field that's really up in the air; Denkova/Stavistki are on the warpath from Euro's, Belbin/Agosto want to prove themselves, and Dubrueil/Lauzon are having a fantastic year. There are also the wildcards from Russia and France.

how weird is it to read 'there are also the wildcards from russia' when it comes to ice dance? LOL

Anything can happen, but I think Evan has his work cut out for him since Brian is capable of putting in three quads.

This is going to be an exciting competition in all disciplines, but most notably the Ladies and Men!

Evan vs. Brian?! Since when?! It's more like Takahashi vs. Brian for gold and possibly Oda in the mix.Remember those Japanese guys who kicked *** all season long? They will be there too. Evan is not even a lock for bronze. Plus, there is the whole Lambiel issue that can change everything. Evan vs. Brain? What are you people smoking?

I think the gold is going to depend on how many quads Joubert can pull off. If he lands three, he's got the gold medal, but if he doesn't bring his entire arsenal with him, then Takahashi's a threat. That is, IF Daisuke can avoid a meltdown...and that's one BIG "if", sadly. Oda is also a threat - if he doesn't throw in too many jump combinations. If Evan doesn't have to come back from a huge short program deficit he might make the podium again, but Johnny and the Canadians could surprise us all and have great skates, too. (And if that happens, I pity the judges!)
Lambiel, sadly, has announced that he's not competing at Worlds this year. Has that changed and I missed it?
Happy Valentine's Day, all!

Now if Joubert would only get rid of his current LP costume and bring a new one to Worlds. That mess is WAY scary! Plus, he only landed one quad at Euros.. Hopefully, he didn't peak too soon this season..

To be honest, I can't stand Takahashi's spin, especially his sit spins - bad position. Don't know how he can manage to get 240+ total score consistently in the past 3 competitions. He received that huge score with only 1 quad, but technically I didn't see why he's better than Joubert. And artistically, I don't think he's anywhere close to Buttle or Lambiel, and I prefer Oda's presentation than his. Joubert definitely should pull off all 3 quads, otherwise, Takahashi will be the favorite.

Interesting list. The thing that stands out to me is that Alyssa is still 6th place even with THREE falls. tells me that if she can pull it together she really can be contender for top 6.

But this is Japanese worlds and at least in the short program Japanese will own, I predict.

actually she had 2..and the other was a timing deduction but i understand your point. If she falls twice, she might be lower with Mao, Miki, and YuNa.
