Evgenia Medvedeva

I think it's CoR for sure. Good to know we have that to look forward to!

Btw, am I the only one who's irritated at NBC sports for being the only one to write Zhenya's name as Yevgenia? Come on, there's an official spelling, you're the only one not to use it!

 NBC is odd, they do the same with Plushy's name and stick an extra letter in his last name and it's just bizarre, I mean technically by some transliteration rules it's correct, but it looks clunky and no-one else does it so yes it's irritating. I actually get a bit weirded out when I see it to be honest.

But on topic I'm excited to hear the Zhenya will be at another competition! I hope it will be streamed so we can see her and her programs again! :cheer:

New Brian interview:

He said: "She has a smaller competition planned in Russia next month, and we’re standing by for a potential spot for Worlds."

:yahoo: We are seeing Evgenia in competition next month!!!

Omg, don‘t tell anyone in the Edge about the “potential spot for Worlds“ or we‘ll have lots of drama there.

Personally, the thought of Worlds scares me. If she‘s ready, I‘d love to see her but potentially taking away the spot of Sofia who‘s been solid all year round would be a real risk... imagine the pressure on Zhenya to deliver and justify that she deserved it. Oh, no, I‘d rather have her at the Universiade and WTT. But... Rusfed doesn‘t listen to me, I guess and neither does Zhenya. In the latter I trust, she‘ll know what to do.

...again. World spots drama: rehash number 10000! :palmf:

I share your feelings on Zhenya and Worlds. We'll see how today goes for Sofia, but I really don't think there's a way to justify replacing her, unless she shows extremely disappointing results. Which she hopefully won't, because I really like Sofia and she deserves to go to Worlds this season.

Who cares about the Edge? Does really not matter much. She has high scoring potential. It´s logical in my opinion that she will be given a chance.

I think it´s good that she will have more competition this season regardless if she qualify for Worlds or not.

It‘s not The Edge I care about. It’s Russian journalist and the pressure Zhenya will face from herself. Think about it: If she gets sent to Worlds she will be taking the spot of Sofia who - despite not having the scoring potential of Zhenya - has been consistently performing at a high level this season. She made GPF, had solid skates at Nationals and won an Euros medal. All things Zhenya has not. Believe me, I would very much prefer to see Zhenya at Worlds. But would it really be fair? And not even talking about fairness: would it be good for HER? This is an adjustment period, it would be better to send her to competitions where the media coverage and pressure isn‘t as high as at Worlds so that she can ease into her programs, get used to the new technique and gradually earn her confidence back. I fear that if she gets sent to Worlds and messes up, it will ruin all the positive thoughts she had from Nationals FS. If she skates two solid, clean programs at this Cup Final, then maybe. But I‘d still be sceptical and even if I sound like a broken record: I‘d much much much prefer to see her at Universiade.

With the second point, I agree completely though. It‘s great that we‘ll see her at competitions. I‘m looking forward to seeing Tosca again. And the Tango, if she is in her Zhenya-fighting spirit. :)

The pressure will always be there - She is Evgenia Medvedeva, it´s normal that many people will look at her. In my opinion, she can make her case strong for the RusFed with a very good score at RCF. The rest per pm.

The pressure actually will be much bigger, because it is not only her reputation at stake, as in the other competitions this season, but also the 3 spots of the Russian team for next year. With the 3As becoming seniors next year + Alina, Zhenya, Liza, Sofia, plus other promising skaters, it will be a real disaster if Russia has only two spots. And it will not be forgotten easily. So, I also think that this season it is best for Evgenia to skip Worlds and let Sofia shine. Sofia is a newcomer and doesn't carry the same burden, hasn't changed coaches and has been incredibly consistent the entire season. And she scored higher than EM at Rusnats. Completely agree that Universiada and CoR make much more sense for Zhenya right now.

In watching the euros and all the others skaters, I really miss or perhaps recognize zhenya’s performance ability. Her way to communicate the story of a program. Everyone else just seems to do the “elements” of the program. The music is just there to move them from one jump to the next, but zhenya uses the music in her performance to tell a story. A more complete performer. Again, maybe it’s her “otaku” brain that gives her this edge over other skaters...

Who said she's taking Sofia's spot? Maybe she'll go instead of Liza. That's the whole purpose of RCF - to see what state they are in coming into the month of March. Whoever skates cleaner will go.

Well i think she has a good chance now to get alinas place after all

Hm. She's had troubles lately but they won't dump her now. Zhenya's had problems too after all. But she seems to be on an upward trajectory. And she won the FS at Nationals. That should count for something. I think they might have to include Alina in this Russian Cup thing. But she still won silver at GPF. I think that Sofia's spot is secured now. Which is good because she deserves it. Now it'll be crazy what will happen next. I'm just confused at this point. The only thing I'll hope for is that she'll have two good skates and is unfaced by this drama.

No way. Please let's be realistic. Alina is their Olympic Champion. She's had troubles lately but they won't dump her now. Zhenya's had problems too after all. I think the only one who has secured a Worlds spot is Sofia. For the rest, I think they'll need to show in which shape they are in February.

I think Liza's spot is also secured. It would be disappointing not to see her after this wonderful season just because she was sick at RusNats. When is the Russia Cup?

At this point alina is a liability. Med is their two time world champion by the way. Tarasova will lobby for zhenya too. A skate off would be fair

I don't know. They'll also have to see which shape she is in now, not before her illness. And that applies to all of them, Rus Fed will have to see which ones are in better shape NOW not at the beginning of the season. Of course if all of them are at the same level, then the ones who have had a better season should go to Worlds.

Yeah, probably. This skate off thing is becoming more and more reality. It's a very confusing situation. I just hope Zhenya keeps calm and isn't affected by this drama. Hopefully this rest will help her go out and have to great programs in February. Everything else we'll see. I don't think we can expect anything at this point.

I'm not trying to hope for anything or expect anything at the moment. Maybe I'm sounding pessimistic but I'm only trying to keep my expectations low. And I'm confused. This whole season is turning out a lot differently than probably everybody thought it would.

Fact is, Zhenya's got a rest and lots of training time in Russia and Toronto. That's definitely an advantage. I hope she does well and I hope we'll get more news soon. :)
