I agree- the guys were fairly dismal, although to be fair I don't think that the girls beyond Lakisha, Stephanie, Jordin, Melinda and Gina were good at all. Guy-wise, my fave is still Chris Sligh (love love love that guy) but Blake, the other Chris, and Phil are pretty good too!
Mike..........I totally agree. Jennifer is the one in a different league and in my opinion, can outsing all of the girls from last night at this point. I did feel the field is stronger in the "ladies" department, however and feel it's a shame that the ladies will be pared down equally with the guys...........42

yeah I hate that they keep it even... it's not the most fair, IMHO... I think the best of the best should go on, gender shouldn't matter...

I am still "learning" who is who with the names on idol, but 5 of the ladies got my attention, with Ms. Doolittle and and the last lady REALLY getting my attention.
I'm taping tonight's show so I can watch Survivor...I'll check the tape for who got "booted" before the night is over, though.

Better late than never, but it's been a long week.....
First off, I have to say, I like the fact that (and of course this is all JMO) everyone left in the top 20 can actually SING. I may not like all the voices, but at least they can carry a tune and they don't have anyone in there who perms hair every time they hit a high note. At least not yet, anyway. I only said "OK, that was awful" ONCE over both nights and that's pretty good.
I'd've sent Sundance and -- Sunyata?? (Dude with the really annoying mall chick hair who sang Stevie Wonder) home among the guys; really bad song choices (which seems to be the theme of this season so far, I noticed a lot of the audition choices were way off the board, too.) I like the 2 Chrises, Brandon, Blake? (the blond spiky haired one), and Nick. Would have liked to have seen the Korean dude stay around at least another week; I really liked his initial audition. But again, bad song choice. Don't do George Michael if you don't have his vocal range.
Dead-on with the ladies, tho; Amy and Nicole (?) were exactly who I would have eliminated, too; Nicole was just downright awful and Amy was dull. Next to go should be Antonella and Leslie (which is a shame, because I like her voice) unless they pick it up next week. I thought LaKisha was marvelous, Sabrina -- wow!!, Stephanie terrific, Jordin excellent and Melinda quite good. Gina had her moments. I, too, have a feeling Lakisha is not going to win, mainly because I'm thinking many people might find her story too similar to Fantasia's and they may decide to go in a different direction. I love Melinda, but I think she's going to have to be very careful about song selection, more so than some of the others -- she has the kind of voice, if she chooses the wrong thing, it's gonna be a disaster. She's got a good voice, but even good voices have gotta be careful. I'm thinking Sabrina and Jordin have the best chance among the ladies so far; the guys? I don't know. They need to pick it up, that's for sure.

did he sing a Sting song this past week? If not maybe he just sounds like him a lot... *shrugs* I like him bestest right now of the boys

Melinda's the only one that stood out for the girls last night, Blake stood out - for me - with the guys....
this is a really lackluster group of guys... and the girls didn't bring it quite as much as last week. *sigh*

I thought Sundance did a great job. I hope he continues. I get so tired of Randy and Paula pooh-poohing Simon. It seems like the contestents really tune in when Simon talks. Sabrina, Melinda and Lakisha stood out for me. I also Chris Sligh.

I love Sundance Head is that not a great name for a singer or what? I also liked his version of "Mustang Sally" he reminded me of the guy from "The Committments". Liked "Let's Get It On" guy too. For the ladies I liked Gina best. I also liked the girl who sang the Christina Aquilera song. Is that the same song that was in "Mulan"? Bernie wants Antonella to stay

Well after watching that I would say no Nina Simone songs for a while, LOL! That is the first time I have seen an Idol that was being sent home not be able to sing their song...........that even teared me up. OK so Anatella and Sanjayan are still here .........how can that be????

The only one I was disappointed to see leave was Leslie. She was one of the few who had personality and didn't fit the typical AI mode. Her ad lib at the end of her song was great.
I hope Sanjaya and Antonella leave next week, although I'm convinced Antonella is going to undeservedly take a spot in the top 12. I'd also like to see Chris R leave although that won't happen. He's a terrible singer who gets too much praise simply because he brings some energy to the performances he gives.

And poor Alaina. I wasn't crazy about her, but I didn't actively resent her presence there either (I'm looking at you, Sanjaya and Antonella)...so her sing out was really sad when she couldn't even sing for crying so hard.
And am I the only one who wishes they'd bring back "Bad Day" instead of that Daughtry (makes me wanna gag just typing that) "song"?
