Alena Kostornaia

The Alena we're seeing now as opposed to the beginning of the season seems so much more confident and sure of herself. I'm sure dealing with growth/puberty struggles after coming back from her summer break was really difficult for her, but I'm so glad that she's found her groove again. It seems like she just keeps getting better every time I see her. I know it's a gamble, but I hope she takes the Russian Junior title.

Alyona being 15 makes a difference when it comes to the subjective scores of SS, TR, PE, CO and IN, compared to her 14 year old compatriots from Khrustalniy. Just this one year age difference makes her more mature in carrying her routine to perfection.

Exactly! At her jgp assignments she looked really nervous and unsure, but she's progressively gotten better and more relaxed/happy and it's showing in her programs! Now I'm just hoping for a clean long:pray:

This is somewhat old news, but this article only got published last week:
https://news.line.me/issue/premium-...ource=line&utm_medium=share&utm_campaign=none

Apparently one the Japanese skating photographers decided to go to Russian Nationals even though Japanese Nationals were going on the same time, and he took a lot of pictures of the ladies. But, in particular, he became kinda obsessed with Alena and her beauty ;) so there are a bunch of photos of her at the beginning.

Let me translate his captions/comments at the top. Some of them are kinda ridiculous, but I guess that is the effect that Alena has on people! :drama:
[Before the first pic of her] "Truly, beautiful."
[2nd pic] "You don't need any other words."
[3rd] Alyona Kostornaya. 15-year old born on 2003-08-24.
[4th] Because I wanted to photograph those eyes, I decided to cover the Russian National Championships.
[5th] She was even more photogenic than I imagined. For me, maybe the most photogenic since Mao Asada and Yuna Kim. When she appeared at the official practice, she was more gorgeous than any other skater. Although she's only 15-years old, she has an aura about her.
[6th] As soon as she stepped on the ice, it seemed to me that the gloomy ice rink suddenly became bright. I was completely fascinated by her. [These comments in particular make me ]

The rest of the article talks about some of the other skaters and the surprising results at Nationals, but you can see that Alena still made it into quite a few of the other photos (like with Alina or Sasha)! :luv17:

Midway down the page, there's a photo with Alena on the phone. The photographer explains that it was easy to interact with the skaters when they were entering/leaving the building, and there were quite a few fans waiting for his "beloved" Kostornaya.
[Above the video] "The temperature was -10. But there was a 70-year+ old grandmother waiting for Kostornaya."
[Under the video] "When Kostornaya appeared, she took out her photos and asked for a signature. I was proud of her happy reaction."

The next few pics show the "relaxed atmosphere" and the friendship between the skaters. "Even at the skate order draw, you could be absorbed in a game on your smartphone or make a phone call."

At the end there's another photo of Alena.
[At the end above the photo of Sofia] "The skaters were photogenic. Bathed in light or hidden in shadows, they were photogenic."
[Above Alena] "To skip Japan Nationals and go to Russia instead was a gamble. Whether that was correct or not doesn't matter anymore."
[Below Alena] "As a photographer, I was able to take photos with a happy feeling. And that is everything. At least for me it is."

I won't be watching Russian Junior Nationals live, but I hope that our angel/devil Alena skates perfectly and finishes with a smile on her face!! Davai~~! :hap10: :cheer:

Alena is very beautiful and I hope she does not have stalkers. this was a very interesting article with great pictures. Especially of AK

she has a chance tomorow to win if clean

I only want her to be at least third so she can go to Junior Worlds. Everything else would be cherry on the top. I think she could theoretically win but there‘s still Sasha and Anna. Alena has to skate squeaky clean to beat them with their quads. Sasha will be even more on fire tomorrow and Anna is within striking distance and tends to do best at National events. I’m fine with any result as long as it results in Alena going to Junior Worlds. I just hope she does her best and has a wonderful skate, regardless of how the other two do!

I hope she’s not injured did anyone notice it looked like her left ankle was wrapped? With something thicker than tape on the outside of her ankle...I hope she’s ok.

Alena was gorgeous today! She had this aura of charisma and self confidence and everything was simply perfect. TBH is fair world Alena should have the highest GOE on her elements (except lutz because this jump belongs to Sasha Trusova) and the highest PCS out of 3A. If she is clean she should win with fair and square judging.

Based on proven consistency and results achieved under pressure at JGP finals and Senior National Championships, Tutberidze's Three Aces should be locks for the Junior World Championships.

Based on scoring potential, these three girls are almost unbeatable and will decide the medal rostrum between themselves on any given day.

They just need to hold on to their best competition form for another six weeks, which is not as easy as it seems. Much depends on the wisdom of their trainers.

Woo-hoo, so happy Alena skated clean (no looking into the stands and tripping this time!) and got the scores she deserved! :yes2:

I hope she can keep it up tomorrow! (And I also hope she isn't seriously injured! ) Goooo Alena!!! :hap10: :hap10: I want to see her bright smile again!

Apparently after she skated, Alena went to the stands were the local kids who skated in the opening ceremony were sitting and took pictures with them and gave autographs! Good girl!

And I guess Alena has a habit of flinging her jacket at Eteri?

How long ago when Alyona was one of the sweeper girls herself? She surely must remember feeling how proud she was at 9-10 years old meeting and greeting with one of the stars in figure skating, perhaps even having her picture taken with her idol.

What I always find funny is when one of the trainers at rink side or in the K&C is holding the 'salfetnitsa', that brightly coloured stuffed animal that holds the tissue box, and often doesn't know what to do with this toy in his hands ;-)
