Alena Kostornaia

What do you think of Alena's lutz in her SP? I've seen some people saying that it's flat edge or even a little bit inside edge. I tried to watch in slow-motion myself. I am not sure but I think it's questionable.

Don't get me wrong. Alena is my favorite skater, but I know that she doesn't always have a clear edge with her lutz. And I do think her jumps got difficult entry, good height and perfect flow and therefore worth the good GOE. However, I don't know if the judges not calling out the edge problem would deter her from correcting/improving the jump.

I think it’s hard to tell based on the camera angle. To me from one angle it looked slightly outside, but from another it looked questionable. If you look closely at the replay of the Channel 1 version you can see she is pressing on her outside edge, which is good. I also think this is the angle the judges see it from, so her team has done a good job putting it where they should. I don’t even think she will have a super deep edge like Yuna but slightly outside is still technically outside. Hopefully it is something they continue to work on in the off season because she needs it clean with high GOE for her senior SP

I actually thought her lutz edge yesterday was the best we’ve seen from her all season, of course it’s nowhere near a deep outside edge but to me it definitely looked outside, whereas normally it’s pretty much flat. Hopefully this isn’t a fluke and it means she’s been working on it, because her lutz edge is practically her only flaw.

She’s a joy to watch - I’ve never seen her that confident during a competition and so happy in the k&c 😊

Alena was gorgeous today! She had this aura of charisma and self confidence and everything was simply perfect. TBH is fair world Alena should have the highest GOE on her elements (except lutz because this jump belongs to Sasha Trusova) and the highest PCS out of 3A. If she is clean she should win with fair and square judging.
So true. Gorgeous SP and gorgeous girl. She brings such joy I hope Alena isn't bored by juniors. She's only in juniors this season because she turned 15 in August and not for example June. I bet she watched Euros thinking she would have won the gold there.

Good luck to Alena today at junior Rusnats. But her best skating will be done as a senior. No doubt about it.

Congratulations to Alena for her silver medal at Junior Nationals! She was absolutely breathtaking today and I‘m happy for the way she skated and her going to Junior Worlds! You were wonderful, Alena! :luv17:

I should be happy for the Fairy.. but I feel like she was robbed just because she doesn't do quads. She's the most amazing junior and will be the most amazing senior next year, that's for sure :luv17:

i can understand Alyona perfectly when she expressed her wish to be able to compete in the seniors at 15.
Now, next year she will advance to the seniors together with Shcherbakova and Trusova.

No doubt, Tutberidze's Three Awesome Aces will be a force to be reckoned with, often sweeping the medal rostrum.

But would Alyona deep in her heart have wanted, for her own pride and ambition, to have just one single year in the seniors alongside Zagitova without feeling the pressure of Trusova and Shcherbakova? The chance of becoming World Champion? That little gesture of resignation in the Kiss and Cry today said it all, she gave it her absolute very best in the free skate but it still wasn't good enough.

As it stands now, Kostornaya and Zagitova are fairly evenly matched in skating skills and expected results, and I think Kostornaya might have the edge even.

She was beautiful today! Every element was nearly perfect except for the 3Lo. I don’t understand why some of her GOEs were lower than at senior nats. I really think had the GOEs and PCS been scored correctly for all competitors that she would have come out slightly ahead. I hope she isn’t disheartened by this result

I feel the same way. But Alena already is known as the most beautiful lady figure skater with artistry, fluidity and feel second to none. She will add 3a in time. But for now Anna and Sasha will outscore her most of the time even if Alena skates cleaner.

On a side note I dont know how Eteri can keep Alena Sasha and Anna happy in he coming years. This will be intreresting to follow. Zhenya did not like that Eteri gave Alina higher scoring programs and I wonder if Alena will feel the same as Zhenya someday.

Hoping AK can win JWC. She may outskate everyone again but be outscored in the end. What can you do?

It could be an advantage for 3A. They are already used to share the podium between themselves, no one from them is a clear favorite. The period of one strong lady (Medvedeva, Zagitova) is over. The competitions would be more interesting and they won´t have so much pressure like Alina last year at Worlds that the three spots for Russia were only at her shoulders.

Inside the Khrustalny , Eteri will make sure everyone has the best scoring potential program, that is capable to skate. Everyone can mess up, be injured, every season is unpredictable. She will give every girl the best shot, what is the best for the team, not for the individual skater. After the Zhenya drama she keeps some distance from her students, no mother-daughter relation anymore, the scores and her reputation is the only what matters.
Maybe Daniil won´t be so neutral and can push his favorites a bit (Anna, Alina).

3 As are one team. And next year it will be 4 As.

Well said. I agree.
