2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

You need to be Ekaterina Ryabova to be allowed to skate for another country these days. The stronger girls are not going anywhere. (In case someone thinks changing countries is easy, Abachkina wanted to skate with Drozd, both Feds said "not happening", Abachkina is now retired).

Who is she and what happened to her?

Do we know whether Gulyakova is okay? I heard she had to stop in the middle of her program yesterday...

Raybova's interview after the ECH, her SP was great https://sport24.ru/news/other/2019-...py-yevgenii-plyushchenko-foto-video-instagram - she was asked about Plushenko's coaching, of course..;) and I love it!

But I think Scott512 asked about Abachkina
Angelique Abachkina is a dancer who used to skate for France with Louis Thauron. She wanted to skate for Russia with Pavel Drozd after her split with Thauron. She even has dual citizenship as I understand. But the French Fed said "we have invested way too much money into you, you are not freaking going anywhere". She wasn't given a release and ended up retiring.

That is outrageous. Sad.

Thumbs up for all the spesking and the glssssssses of wine!:)
But I disagree with the dual citizenship-thingy. Didn't Julia Soldatova try that many years ago, and it ruined her career??:scratch2:

AFAIR Soldatova stated in her interview the Russian-Belorussian affairs forced her to change the citizenship.
She wasn't intended. Politics involved and my experience recommends not to push the issue further. Ban is quick and heavy.

I’m surprised that they didn’t give her the Bruno option where Germany paid the French Federation to release him. 30,000€ I believe, down from 70,000€ they originally wanted.

I doubt RusFed considered her that valuable and I am not sure Drozd was prepared to pay out of his own pocket even if a payment did get brought up. Drozd has since found a partner in Russia anyway.

liza got 122 in the FS today, 188 in total. What do you think? Is it a good first outing for her? She landed 3A turnout but missed her lz-lo combination. if i were the RusFed i would send her to worlds, but i am most likely to be less picky than the RusFed :D

I think she needs to go to the cup final and get her spot there

Okay, I am now worried about Tuktik. Underrotating her 3A and popping her otherwise gorgeous Lutz... and such low low low PCS. There is still time to the worlds... but... I just worry she screwed her career with that gala routine (by getting sick and losing her form).

:(

So gutted for her.

If anybody can rebound from that it is Tuktik. She has redefined comeback. Now it is her turn to get the "she just needs more time" pass. In her case, just a little more time - shake off the competition rust and go out there and kill it!

Well, hopefully. There is still some time and I am sure her team knows what she needs.

Irina Slutskaya gave an interesting interview. Maybe a russian is kind to help with a proper translation. I never knew she had such a relation with Butyrskaya https://rsport.ria.ru/20190209/1550615378.html

Only the gist:

Pairs in SLC
Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze were on the different level than Sale and Pelletier. Just incomparable. Believe me as the person who dedicated 30 years to this sport.

The loss to Arakawa

It was my fault – I failed one element. But I was under pressure – I knew that they would not give 4 golds to Russia. My short program was one of the strongest but the judges were very reserved. She got +2 +3 for every element while I had only zeroes. Even if I had not fallen I would not have won. But it’s my problem – I gave up before the start because I knew beforehand that they sold my medal.

The U.S.A.
You don’t want to read that – one big conspiracy theory.

Butyrskaya

We started to talk recently after a very long break. The people always created the tension between us. And back then it was close to hate. Luckily, we did not have Instagram then. In 1999 her car was burnt. They took me to police and investigator told me that I would end up in jail. I was crying telling them what I did that day minute by minute.

Doping

I was setup in 1999. They found the stuff, which goes through injections. I am scrupulous in general regarding what goes inside me and I am afraid of syringes. I made another set of tests and they were clean.

Medvedeva

She has to stay. But 3A get senior next year and I don’t understand how to compete with them if they keep their tech content. Neither Medvedeva nor Zagitova would have bonus next season for their previous achievements. This is right. And there are other than 3A skaters in the line – I can name 5 of them. I was lucky - I did not have that situation.

Money

We were poor. After winning junior worlds they gave me 500 dollars. Dresses, choreographers, tickets, hotels – I paid out of my pocket from prize money. They allotted money to me before Turin – I did not spend all and ask to give me the rest for the next season. They said that the money had been gone.

Did she really get sick because of her gala? She could haven gotten pneumonia for many reasons.
