2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

It probably didn't help though.

But I really hope she can get her chance at worlds. It would be just so unfair if her comeback was not complete.

I don't think Liza's getting pneumonia has anything to do with her gala routine. It's not like a flimsy skating dress would have provided much more warmth than her bra/jacket combo. Much more likely she caught it on the plane to/from Canada, as the air conditioning systems in planes are awful germ spreaders.
But I agree it would be a shame if her comeback season were spoiled due to her being sick and missing training just before the really important competitions. Her skate today at Dragon Trophy looked pretty underwhelming, though. Hopefully Professor Magic Mishin will be able to get her back on track for the Cup Final and Worlds.

But she seems very bitter for no reason here. She had a great career... so where does all this bitterness come from?
In Russian FS a career is not great at all (more like a piece of known substance) if not resulted in OGM.

Some other may consider Olympics Medal of other color as a best gift in his/her life.
Not in Russia. Those losers never met by cheering mob in the airport.

I would not consider an Olympian a loser. Especially one earning a medal.

That‘s so disrespectful.

I think one has to remember the deep history of successful Russian athletes. Where as Canada often has a handful of gold medals it is not uncommon for the Russians to have dozens. Back in the USSR days they would often have more gold than any other team combined. When that happens you have many heroes and someone who wins a silver is not going to get the attention they might get elsewhere. I doubt it is anything more than that to be honest.

That‘s so disrespectful.
Long ago in 1952 losing Olympic medal for the USSR soccer team resulted in heavy punishment for the sportsmen and for the team headquarters.

Yes. It's disrespectful. Or worse.
But attempting to change someone mentally usually result in even worse things.

Only the gist:

Pairs in SLC
Berezhnaya and Sikharulidze were on the different level than Sale and Pelletier. Just incomparable. Believe me as the person who dedicated 30 years to this sport.

The loss to Arakawa

It was my fault – I failed one element. But I was under pressure – I knew that they would not give 4 golds to Russia. My short program was one of the strongest but the judges were very reserved. She got +2 +3 for every element while I had only zeroes. Even if I had not fallen I would not have won. But it’s my problem – I gave up before the start because I knew beforehand that they sold my medal.

The U.S.A.
You don’t want to read that – one big conspiracy theory.

Butyrskaya

We started to talk recently after a very long break. The people always created the tension between us. And back then it was close to hate. Luckily, we did not have Instagram then. In 1999 her car was burnt. They took me to police and investigator told me that I would end up in jail. I was crying telling them what I did that day minute by minute.

Doping

I was setup in 1999. They found the stuff, which goes through injections. I am scrupulous in general regarding what goes inside me and I am afraid of syringes. I made another set of tests and they were clean.

Medvedeva

She has to stay. But 3A get senior next year and I don’t understand how to compete with them if they keep their tech content. Neither Medvedeva nor Zagitova would have bonus next season for their previous achievements. This is right. And there are other than 3A skaters in the line – I can name 5 of them. I was lucky - I did not have that situation.

Money

We were poor. After winning junior worlds they gave me 500 dollars. Dresses, choreographers, tickets, hotels – I paid out of my pocket from prize money. They allotted money to me before Turin – I did not spend all and ask to give me the rest for the next season. They said that the money had been gone.

Wowwwwwwww!

I agree that the Russian pair was overall better than the Canadian pair but because of the judging controversy they felt they had to give a gold medal to the Canadian pair too.

Irina and Maria had a bad relationship kind of like Yagudin and Plushenko. Sad. 3a get along great as did Alina and Zhenya.

I remember that Maria's car got blown up but I never knew Irina was a suspect. Crazy. Maria was and is so beautful who would want to hurt her?

I know she thought they wojld not give her gold but if Irina did her best programs Russia would have won all 4 gold medals.

Amazing information from Irina thank you for the translations

To be honest, I am bit disappointed. I never really liked her skating, there was always somebody whom I liked more but I admire her strengh to come back after illness.

But she seems very bitter for no reason here. She had a great career... so where does all this bitterness come from?

I get the feeling she doesnt like Alina. Irina seems bitter. but she overcame a major illness to be a great figure skater and then have her own family she should be happy.

I have a question about the Russian Cup Final or Russian Cup Final Stage? Are the participants selected based on their pervious Russian Cup events, and it runs much like GPF vs individual GP events, or it is simply the last Russian domestic competition in the season?

Liza :(

It was no disaster skate, but she obviously isn't fit if she misses her 3Lz like that... and she was really out of breath at the end (but managed to add a 2T to the last jump to get 3 combos in).
2A-3T + 3S 2A seq looked good!
3A not perfect as expected, if only she didn't miss her 3Lz-3T...

PCS=a joke, so who cares about scores.

Does it help her get back in shape if she starts at the Cup Final and Universiade before a potential worlds?
I'm worried :(

They are selected from the Cup Events and some by special invitation (Stasya, Zhenya, Liza this year)

Butyrskaya's car blows up and Slutskaya is a suspect?? That's totally crazy!!

Why not?

from Maria interview

The car burned down one day before the start of the Russian Championship, the new BMW 528 ,they were hoping to break my psychological balance, everyone in the Russian figure skating knows how easy it is to do .. All this, in my opinion, was carried out by specially hired people. Thank God that skates were not in the car, if they burned, I would not be able to perform not only in the Russian championship, but also in other competitions

I'm not sure Irina is wrong about not having a chance. I always loved Irina-such huge wonderful jumps, and I remember some of her footwork was outstanding. I do remember back in the day not feeling like she got the credit she deserved, but figure skating was far more corrupt in those days. I hope she is doing well now. Thank you for the translation!

I dunno. It was a pretty sloppy effort today (In my opinion). I think it has to come down to one last competition to decide. Based on today's performance, most of the field at Russian Nationals should go before her.

This Russian Tonya/Nancy story is so much juicier than the actual Tonya/Nancy story.

Of the 3A, I feel that Shcherbakova will lose her jumps first after puberty. She really twerks her body sometimes into those jumps. I believe that Team Eteri will do everything they can to hold off the puberty but it will eventually come. Maybe even by next season in her senior debut.

Stasya may go to worlds! But Liza still has the inside track on her and Zhenya because Liza has been more reliable this season. And with Alina being up and down since rusnats the other 2 must be reliable.
