Stanislava continues the trend of a good Sp - bad LP/ bad SP - good comeback in LP for Team Valentina ... sigh...

Now we have to wait which version Mika has in store for us this weekend

He will be skating second-to- last with only 6 guys taking part in total

If Misha and Stasya continue their trading off trend, then we can expect a bad short and a good LP  maybe even a clean Carmen!

No live stream, which is probably better for my nerves. Videos will be uploaded immediately after the competition though.

Hope you are right, I am desperate for a clean-ish Carmen!
Well, actually I hope we are both wrong and Mika will have 2 good skates. After all, the pressure if there was any, has diminished now with all the guys at Russian Cup announcing their utter unwillingness to go to Worlds

This small comp actually interests me not less than Euros or Worlds from the psychological point of view. Will he skate a clean LP here? It is practically a training session with the judges present. I always wonder how many full run throughs a week they do and how many clean he manages if any

I don't know. Misha never did well at competitions between Euros and Worlds, especially minor competitions. It didn't necessarily mean anything in terms of his subsequent Worlds performance. I suppose they let his form go down since you can't keep it at peak for the entire Euros-Worlds period (and one season he was injured so not much choice in terms of keeping his form up). But this time it is different because this comp will be watched closely by the decision-makers, so I can't agree that there is no pressure. But we'll see.

Happy he nailed that axel, good GOE throughout, just that little flub on the combo--which made him lose at least five/six point, but that's fine.

More or less what one would expect of this time and competition. Now for the FS tomorrow, that will be more interesting.

The score scared me a little, so I was relieved to see the jumps (other than the opening combo) were very strong.

Axel was so smooth :luv17:

To me, the Lutz also didn't have that lean it had lately, but it's hard to see it perfectly. Overall the jumps looked fine. I think if he fought a little harder on the combo he could have added the triple, but it didn't matter that much this time.

Sigh, I wish someone would actually ask the questions we bring up here - why do you dislike watering down layouts, how many clean run-throughs you get, instead of a lot of water or irrelevancies you get from some journalists. Simonenko's interview from 2 years ago quoted upthread asked how hard it is for Misha to skate a clean LP in training but has anyone else since then?

Clean short for Misha, with a score on the conservative side. 4T-2T, 3Z, 3A with a different entry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqIOj8B_Yl0

I loved the bracket entry, but this triple axel was a beauty, so whatever works! Great performance overall, I actually think it’s good that it wasn’t perfect. I think I jinxed his free at Euros, so I’ll refrain from saying anything more ;)

ETA: From photo credits, it looks like Tatjana Flade is there, so hoping for an interview from her :)

Tatjana is everywhere. I saw her at Rus Cup Final, too.

OK, I think I've had enough of the salchow. He can try to add it next season, but for Worlds, he really needs to take it out, I think. With his Nepela layout, he can be top 5 easily. I know he needs it to podium, but that is not going to happen this season.

Edit: Oh god I just saw the score. SIX deductions? I think I want him to skip Worlds at this point :(

mISHA JUMPED A FLIP WHAT IS HAPPENING!

Other than that, he didn't jump a quad salchow, nor he fell in one, so I don't see why it's the problem jump. Another thing, skating at a low-level competition was not the answer for his problems either. I'm waiting for the protocols to see the calls on his flip. And I'm glad he didn't do a loop. Not much else to say.

:confused2:

I opened the scratchy stream on his VK page just to see he had fallen on a jump, so I assumed it was the salchow, sorry. I haven't watched the skate yet.

I'm so confused by this layout. What on earth is he doing?

Pretty much the same layout from before, without the loop. I'm sure he wanted the combo on the first quad toe, then the quad salchow, axel-euler-salchow combo, triple flip, then quad toe, triple axel and triple lutz on the second half.

No calls on the flip, I'm really curious to see him jumping that one again. Underrotation on the second quad toe, but the other jumps were rotated, besides the scramble with the salchow.

One thing I didn't like was him being VERY aware of his hand. I don't think this competition was needed, but what can you do. Now he has time to prepare for Worlds, unless they want him out of the team. But I don't see why.
