2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I don't know why Liza says that she's tired of proving she deserves a world's spot. Yep, she got a gold medal and two bronze's, but the other competitors made mistakes. She wasn't like Medvedeva or Zagitova were in the past seasons. Actually, RCF was an opportunity for HER. RusFed did this for HER. She didn't land her 3A in SP and that was her mistake. If she could landed it, there wouldn't be any discussion about 3rd spot.

She missed Nationals and Europeans so it is only fair that she had to do a qualifying event - Russian Cup Final. They probably pushed her to do Dragon Trophy too though - so makes more sense to say this after RCF and having enough.

RusFed is single-handedly keeping the engagement metrics on this thread and forum up.

If my math is correct for this thread:

2.6 million views
~17,500 posts (~1/3 of the edge)
710 posts from Sam-Skwantch (4th Place) :slink:

More Drama than yo mama! :p

what did he say?

He got called to comment and didn't know anything was published.
Something like

Congratiolations on your 2 students for the wc

What? How do you know?

Team is announced: Sonya in the team, Liza spare

What spare? What did Gorshkov say?

(Reads it) it's provisional

Spare this means nothing!!! :dev2:

Brillant reporting :laugh2:

It's amazing what the RusFed has to do to make his favorite go to the championship, they has to put in an x skater to magically get sick and she be in his place.

Many are wrong to blame the RusFed, here the only culprit is she who pressures the federation to be above the skaters who never exceeded the whole season, who already accept that her year was terrible and she does not deserve to be in the championship. The third place is only for Tuktamysheva.

And what is that magic power that your mysterious unnamed skater holds over the fed, pray tell? She who pressures must be one mighty being. Jeeeeeez

I think the opposite is true.

We could argue that Liza should have been at least 2nd at NHK, there was a bit of Japan bias there with the judging (putting Miyahara in front with those jumps, really?), but most importantly if she didn't fall on the 3A at GPF, overall score would have been very close to Zagitova.

Yep, I just don't get why she complains about it. She needed to do a qualifying event and she finished 2nd for not landing her 3A in the SP. She got huge PCs. It's not like only others were overscored.

A clean Liza would never beat a clean Alina.

A clean Liza would never beat a clean Alina.

I wouldn't say never, but even if it is, keep in mind that currently there are more chances to see Alina bombing than skating clean, based on her performances this season.

Sofia also would have never beaten a clean Alina.

Well, that's an awful "decision". It really looks like the skaters themselves don't know who'll be sent, how is this uncertainity supposed to help their preparation process? Duh, I really hope RusFed doesn't wait until the very last minute to tell them.

Alina just posted a 3-3-3 combo on instagram

Yep and it was perfect, so much for her being injured and out of shape... I’m not even a huge Alina fan but I really hope she goes to worlds and proves everyone wrong with the skate of her life.

they do this in other russian sports
in rhyhtmic gymnastics at the 2012 Olympics they listed Merkulova and Kanaeva
and then replaced Merkulova with Dmitrieva few days before start of the competition, they cited "injury".

same in 2016 they had Soldatova as reserve but luckily neither Mamun or Kudryavsteva got replaced in start order of Olympics.

That is incomparable, in rhythmic gymnastics Russia is the greatest potency in the world and all those that represent Russia are trained by Viner, she sees them every day, if she sees that someone is wrong she simply changes for the one that is better. And this happens because Russia must maintain its prestige of winning everything. However, in skating everything is distributed, the RusFed does not know the reality of anyone other than the pressures from family, coaches and sponsors as it happens with the one that trains in Canada.

Honestly it's incredible to see RusFed doesn't even trying to hide all the politicking :palmf:
According to me it's clear who should have been the third girl on the team, but it's also clear that results are not the only thing considered to make the decision. Still, I really don't get how Kostantinova can still be in contention, considering she bombed both at Europeans and RCF. It seems crazy to me, but whatever.
I guess it's useless trying to understand what they're going to do, because they're completely unpredictable. This all strategy is just to keep all options open at all time, in order to do anything they will prefer.

So in the end it doesn't matter wether they (the skaters) like or not.

I disagree, I think it does matter. Why should the skaters be left in anguish just because some high-mucky-mucks in the federation want to run around in circles like chickens with their heads cut off?

There are no RUS or JPN judges in Ladies at the World Championships. No strings to pull, not even by proxy in the judging panels by FFKKR?

It should matter to the chickens without heads too if they want to keep their three spots. Ultimately, the three of the skaters that are now left in anguish are the ones who will have to perform. They'd better not make such a drama but rather let them concentrate on training and preparing calmly. I just hope they don't lose a spot as a result of this. It would be (again!) the skaters paying for that and it's not their fault at all.
