2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

People here should chill out a bit. (Though maybe some of you are glad for an excuse to bash Stasya.) There's no way the Fed is going to choose her over either Evgenia or Liza. In an interview after Euros, Stasya herself said there was pretty much zero chance for her to be chosen after she messed up the sp and failed to medal (this was even before the Cup final), and that she intended to skate at the Cup final and Universiade for her own honor. The best she can hope for is to be named an alternate.

Um... what alphabet is he using?

I am perplexed as well. In Russian it would be Zagitova, Konstantinova, Samodurova. In English it would be Konstantinova, Samodurova, Zagitova.

They have Konstantinova, Zagitova, Samodurova. May it's the alphabetic order in Japanese as the WC is in Japan?

Unless they get so much involved in backstage politicking that they will forget to update the list on time before the competition. Then Stasya will go!

Long live Russian drama! Never disappoints! lol

Wait...is this official???...why did they pick Konstantinova????....

It is official, but it isn't final. RusFed couldn't decide the team in time, so they just submitted the same list of names from Europeans and they plan to change it once they've decided the team for sure.

And they (FFKKR) are probably in their right to do so. Pre-naming three weeks in advance and decisive naming the final minutes before the draw, is keeping all your options open and the skaters' blades (meaning mindset) at their sharpest. It is probably psychologically tougher, but like others have said, it keeps the fighting spirit up to find who is strongest and toughest in this respect. All top athletes from Russia should be used to this pressure.

We can only hope everybody keeps their head cool and doesn't overexert themselves in training, because this practice is a sure way to make small nagging injuries worse, leading to pull outs. It has happened in other sports (Russian WAG in 2001 Ghent WC) that there were no healthy reserves left and the team had to compete with limp and crippled athletes (Zamolodchikova, 2000 double OGM)

But then, come next season, a whole new generation of skaters advance into senior ranks, and most of the 'old ones' are finding themselves disposable all of a sudden. Not really that sudden of course, they surely follow the juniors' progress with great interest and should know they are living on borrowed time. So I don't understand why FFKKR is making it this hard on themselves and their skaters. Like discussed here at length, there could be any number of reasons, but us fans are mostly concerned over skaters' readiness and potential.

At least one hour before the first draw begins. So an hour before the draw for order of skaters in the groups for the short program I think. I'm actually not sure when they do the draw. Anyone?

Usually the day before the event. Ladies short is scheduled on March 20, so the draw should be some time on the 19th. I don't think we have the color-coded schdule yet.

I can easily see them going with Konstantinova over Evgenia and it wouldn't be crazy either. It's not like one stands head and shoulders above the other at the moment.

And the only reason I can see for them not pulling the trigger and naming Liza is they don't want her and are looking for excuses or something. Judging from the cup final it seems behind the scenes Evgenia's got some strong backers and they or course like Konstantinova regardless of how inconsistent she is. All Liza has is her season results. You would think that would be enough but I guess not.

Her looks? They've got to be kidding, right?

Don't get me wrong, Zhenya is pretty as a picture. But Liza looks like she is having so much fun and wants me to have fun, too.

They had a guest once who Liza called out on twitter for his comments. Something disgusting like if she would lose weight she would gain PCS

- Warning -
Only watch TSL if you don't get angry about endless calls for retirement and last chances for our russian ladies :dev2: and Liza is the worst!

They make fun about the Cup Final and other 'shows and spectacles' of selection with predetermined results for the public which was pretty entertaining. And athletes suddenly getting 'ill' when a spare has to take the place in the past :drama: Who knows what will happen next in our daily soap in russian FS! Drama!

Tuktamysheva is the sentimental favorite this year
sending Med would give another huge backlash and hate for her.

Sofia is the anchor to keep 3 spots, Tuk can potentially Medal same as Zagitova but she can have another worlds moment.
The chances of Tuk medaling are higher than Zagitova, so why would Med be there anyways ? she hasn't had a clean skate all season.

Med should conentrate for next season as
Zagitova will be disposable and will useless next season.

Huh? Zagitova has the highest total score recorded (of any skater, not just the Russians) this season - almost 20 points higher than Tuktamysheva's best score this season.

In their only head-to-head of the season, at the GPF, Zagitova beat Tukt by 11 points.

Agree that RusFed would love to leave Sofia off the team - but she won Euros and more than earned her spot (along with her great consistency throughout the season).

I agree that Zhenya should be left at home. She doesn't deserve it based on her results this season. Sofia, Liza, and Alina do.

I get the impression that Mishin has little political sway in the federation when compared to CSKA and Eteri's group. Eteri's skaters has an incredible amount of depth and talent - sending 2 or 3 of them is expected (look at the juniors). Sending two Mishin girls is much less expected. There's no CSKA girl in contention for a spot, but Zhenya is probably honorary CSKA, politically speaking, given her closeness with TAT.

I'm really just speculating though.

Samo has a juniorish quality and her FS is fun and cute (the PCS should def be sub-70), but she really has been the most consistent Russian this season, and should be at Worlds.

Liza should go to Worlds. She is so much more qualified than Medvedeva this season it's embarrassing the fed just keeps dragging it out. It is NOT the end of the world if Evgenia doesn't go to Worlds for one year in what is clearly a transitional season for her :dev2: ugh, I'm gonna go ape****

I'm fine with them going with anyone at that point, you can justify everything. Just announce it.
(and just announcing someone without this cup spectacle for narrative and now this 'provisional team' would have been less of a scandal)

Strong backers: At this point even the guys from TSL talked about how Zhenya is supported by TAT and  very influencial people
They really want their russian drama :/

because she was mess at European Championships and Russian Championships and Liza is more stable skater this season.
