2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

//what is actually happening in russia

Nina Moser of the council said she voted for Zhenya on past merits. (-> ok. It's not ok to claim fair selection..)

Trankov was rooting for Tuktik

//I'm off

Btw if somebody want's to actually look impartially at what is happening in russia without any bias you can even check the comments under the articles in to*ic spots.ru

What is down voted are the actual to*ic people who gloat with things like "idc, but we your Zagitova falling all over the floor on social media" from people that offer Information from russia with translations and stuff to people who don't speak russian.
Russian fans are not the problem, it's whoever is influencial be it in RusFed or social media. Please rethink who you trust.

//done with another view on russia for now good day :)

Am I late for the party? I just saw the news.
I was literally jaw-dropped. Shocking. RusFed messed up big time.

I feel so bad for Liza! I think she truly deserved to go. And I like that they shared the voting number results, like... Thank you RusFed for the cruel transparency “when we need it the most”... [emoji23]

Now Evgenia will go and please lord let her skate lights out because if she doesn’t... people will eat her alive once again. And once again her confidence will be shaken. I’m hoping she’s in a upwards trajectory. Let’s pray. [emoji120]

This doesn’t feel right but now all we can do is hope for the best.

Would love to see the breakdown of this because 90K per month seem a lot?

I want to see this breakdown too. Unless she's living like Beyonce, there's no way her coaching & living expenses costs $90K USD per month. You could qualify for an Amex Black card with that kind of spending.

Love how some people throw out figures without even thinking about them.

For those who may desire a pleasant break tomorrow from huffing and puffing endlessly about possible WCh selections
 the Free Skate programme promises an exciting climax. since the top seven are so closely bunched that any one of them could turn out victorious.
Four Eteris :eeking: - Kamila, Maia, Darya, Sofya A, Davydov's two Sofyas S and M, and Panova's Anastasiia Sh

Kamila, Maia and Sofya S are all in top form, but the other four have all been doing well this season too. In any case, these are all magnificent FS programmes to thrill over.

The senior girls have been doing elements today, so that could well change the current placings.

Championships of Moscow 2019 Senior girls ("Elder Age") 24 entrants.

Thursday
28th February 14h45 to 17h45

(MSK = GMT +3, EST +8, CST -8)

What a treat :)

Comes back to bite Russia like how?

You want Medvedeva or the 2 other skaters to skate poorly???

No. I don't want anyone to perform poorly. It would be great if all three of them had their very best skates. I just think it would also be incredibly ironic if they ended up losing 3 spots because they sent skaters who have admittedly been having some difficulty lately.

I think that Rusfed had a difficult choice. In the end, they bet on Medvedeva's upward trend. Her not going to WC would make them not only look stupid. They may be scared to be accountable for all the money spent with no return. In Russia it can easily be named "embezzlement". Some people already calculated that Zhenya "costs" the State 90K USD per month.

If she delivers in Japan, everybody will be happy but the hardcore h*ters. Let's pray for her then.

Thing is how reliable is this upward trend. To be able do what she did in a domestic event versus doing it again or even cleaner at the biggest stage of the season is a completely different thing. Also we dont know how she's going to cope with the pressure of having to prove her worth of getting a controversial spot. We all saw at gp france when she had to fight for a gp final spot and she totally blew it. This isnt the hard grit Evgenia from previous years. Her mentality has changed a lot and I think this will show in Worlds.

So until yesterday the narrative was "Sofia and Alina are enough to keep the 3 spots" and today it's "Zhenya will make them lose the 3 spots11!!!11!!!!"??? I fail to believe most of you who say that you're concerned for her well-being if she doesn't do well. But thankfully she was shown love during the last 2 national competitions which obviously gave her confidence, and I hope she'll cling to it and not let anyone else get to her.

With the 3A turning senior next season, shame on you for wishing that they lose the 3 spots.

That's not what I mean. This isn't Zhenya's fault at all, and I wish her all the best. It just drives me nuts that Liza gave some of the best performances of her life all year and, in my opinion, is probably the Feds' best hope of retaining three spots and they left her at home in favor of someone who has understandably been struggling this season.

I apologize if I misunderstood you.

As to Liza, I feel really bad for her, but in terms of who was the better choice for the team, there are a lot of ways to look at it, and I don’t think they all pointed strongly to Liza. She had a good early season but not a stellar one. In addition, according to the stats at SkatingScores.com, her success rate on 3A isn’t that great this year - out of 9 attempts, she got negative GOE on 6 of them. I see a lot of comments here that politics drove the decision. I have no idea if that’s true, but what is true is that in her most recent two comps, Liza still didn’t look in top form.

Sofia is not having difficulties, so I guess this would apply to Zhenya and Alina. Sure, that's true, but does that mean that Liza hasn't? Sure, she had a great showing at CoR, but Dragon Trophy was "lately" as well. Even later than Alina's EC for example.

Realistically, wondering what Evgenia’s chances are at Worlds. I think a podium finish seems overly optimistic.

I’m also not sure all the 3A will be completely dominating next season and beyond. This time last year, few probably thought Alina would be going through her challenges. I wouldn’t write off skaters like Alina, Liza for next season.

In the CR if she had not fallen on the combo she would have been totally OK. Her lutz edge in the free looked not that bad to me - she might get ! internationally but it is not a big deal. The big deal, if she is clean, is how her rotation will be judged. There has been an outcry of her URs but outside the combo I did not see big issues there as well. Yes, her GOE was atrocious and pcs inflated. With the clean combo she would have received about 230. I would discount it by 10-12 points. Hence, I believe that if she is on the upward trend and can skate 2 clean programs she will have 218-220 in Japan. It will be, may be, even enough to podium.

I don’t know if Evgenia skating pretty well at one domestic event indicates an upward trend. The same could be argued for Liza then - she skated better there than her previous event.

Even with Nathan’s skates at Nationals, we can't say for sure if he’s on an upward trend (or at least I don’t want to be overly confident about it) - though his Nationals performances were far better than what he did on the GP.

The decision has been made, and while I’m feeling sad for Liza:( and was really hoping she would make the team, I hope Evgenia skates her best.

Yet another farce put on by the Russian Fed. Unfortunately, it seems the body of work argument plays a crucial part only when it suits their narrative. Although I’m glad that Med gets a chance at redemption, it’s sad to see that merited results throughout the season mean little to them. And also, it shouldn't only be Liza or Med. Liza is being dumped in favour of another skater that had full-on meltdowns at both Nationals and Euros. The lustre of a past gold has been fading fast in the judges' eyes and RF hasn’t yet followed suit in opening their eyes. There are those skaters that are given multiple passes and then there's Liza who does everything to earn every ounce of respect but unfortunately, it’s still not enough.

Alina won gold at both of her GP events and silver at the GPF. It wasn't that long ago.

That "other skater" has earned 3 Golds and 2 Silver medals this past season.

I think that counts as both "body of work" and "merited results"

And that "other skater" fights for every spin, step, jump even if she is having a poor skate.
Even with 3 falls at 2018 Worlds, she never gave up on the program.
And she got 5th place which helped keep 3 spots for Russia this year.

:laugh2:

Too funny for words! This sleight of hand reminds me of the much loved, if rather barmy, Tommy Cooper, only in his case, he was deliberately mis-conjuring, to coin a phrase, part of his consummate act. I would link here, but I wouldn't want to steer off-topic. But those interested may enjoy a good laugh by seeking out some of his work on Yt. Unfortunately, like so many comedians, he dropped down dead while performing on stage one day.

She was supposed not to blatantly lie to her fans. She looked very confident and sure while saying "Yes, of course, I'll continue to work with Eteri, no doubts". And in two months she's in Canada. That's not a decision that people make in a week. She could choose not to answer. That'd be less hypocritical. Personally, that was the moment when I lost all my respect for her. But I guess people are different, some may find that kind of behavior ok.

p.s I don't hate her. Just don't care anymore.

This is a sport. She owes nothing to her fans.

Would love to see the breakdown of this because 90K per month seem a lot?

Is she living like a queen? That figure is baloney and ridiculous. Who actually believes that? And Med herself said she is paying for her own training. :rolleye::rolleye::rolleye:

I am sure that the number is wrong but who cares if it is $90K or $9K? The thing is that there is an article with the heading: "Содержание фигуристки Медведевой обходится российскому бюджету (налогоплательщикам) в 6 миллионов рублей в месяц": "Medvedeva costs Russian budget (taxpayers) 6 million rubles per month" And it was trending in the front page of firefox news feed so that it is quite visible. That's how I saw it. I did not read it at first. Only when I was asked to show the receipts did I look through: their calculation: coaching+housing+food+flights+equipment/dresses is wrong. But that's not the point. The point is that people ask the financing question in a very visible way to the public. And in Russia it may mean something. Like it meant before.

Btw I have Amex black card - nothing special.

The fact that you're bashing Zagitova for the RusFed choosing Medvedeva over Tuktamysheva for Worlds--a decision Zagitova had zero involvement in, and when Zagitova is the most successful Russian ladies skater internationally this season, including by beating Tuktamysheva by over 10 points at the GPF--only shows how desperate you are to bash Zagitova in every conceivable circumstance, no matter how irrelevant.
