Suzie Wynne, Susie Wynne....she's expressing an *opinion* not fact! A former European Bronze Medalist and World No. 5 Nicky Slater thought otherwise, and that DomShabs won the FD at Euros, so put that in your pipes and smoke it.

How disappointing for you that D&L are currently leading the 4CCs in America. Guess the political message that they're finished didn't get through to them.

My question is, "how did they do that?" Especially, considering how much slower and weaker they are with footwork compared to Denkova & Staviski and Belbin & Agosto.

It seemed that they were receiving one of those "Lifetime Achievement Awards" that the Ice Dance Academy like to hand out, as well as a message from the judges that it's time to move on. They did not get the hint, so I think they will be dropping in the rankings.

Well, the world tittle this year is reserved for them,so they still haven't got their present
Otherwise,I am asking myself the same things, but i am sick of trying to understand the judges scores, so i just want to enjoy the dances....so Rhumba please give me a break so i can enjoy the art...:agree:
P.S. I think D/L are better in CD then B/A, so i have nothing against that result.The OD and FD is another question

When was that performance and which is that exceptionally great program? I even find the FD of Dom/S better then their exhibition number "At Last", and the judges seem to agree with me about that

You're free to have a differing opinion of course, but I was referring to last year's "Somewhere in Time". I do believe that one to be among the very best programs of recent years.

This year's "At Last" I am not keen on yet either... though I have only seen it once so far.

I like everyone in the Dance Top 5 and I don't want to choose. But what I'd like to see is:

1.The winning team has the cleanest CD, OD, and FD.
2.Delobel/Schoenfelder get some kind of World medal since they've been sooo close but haven't won one yet.
3.Chait/Sakhnovsky show up and grab a medal.
4.Virtue/Moir or Davis/White grab 6th or 7th (but anywhere Top 10 will do).

As for Dubreuil/Lauzon winning?! ... I could live with that. :agree:

I do agree with that. Their last FD was very emotional and very impressing, which makes you forget about their weak twizzles, but not with this year weak remake

D/L are being very much helped by the fact that Canada's David Dore is an ISU Vice President. This season, D/L have gotten high PCS marks in every performance segment, even the ones (like NHK and GPF FD and 4CC OD) where they had noticeable stumbles. They seem to have inherited N/K's cloak of invincibility, no matter how many mistakes they make.

I begin to wonder about possible back-room deals in the works where Russian and former SSR ice dance judges are in lock-step with Canadian judges to ensure that Russian and Canadian teams place as high as possible internationally. Of course, for that to happen, some other teams have to be pushed back, hence Denkova/Staviiski and Belbin/Agosto getting the cold shoulder (and possibly DelShoes yet again at Worlds, where there will be no French judge).

I cheer for Dubreuil/Lauzon as much as I do, almost entirely I think because I am a Canadian. If I were not a Canadian I am not sure I would be a fan of them at all. I do like that they have finally defined a style for themselves, a bit more diversity would be nice and I have yet to see from them. Their lifts are their biggest technical strength, I am not a big fan of their footwork, and their twizzles for an elite team are pretty deficient to be honest.

David Dore becoming entrenched in the ISU when he had been so critical of them in the mid-late 90s was a bit shocking to me when it first happened. I did notice around 2000 he started defending the ISU more often when asked questions about how Canadians were being judged, particularly Bourne and Kraatz(whom he used to go into endless rants over), and was actually subdued, polite, and defended the integrity and governing of each of the sports disciplines by the ISU. I never understood at the time, I thought maybe he was mellowing in his old age, or tried to become a more objective bystander all of the sudden. In hindsight it almost seems like it was a buttering up campaign to be appointed his current role in the ISU. So that he would have alterior motives, one of them to help the Canadian skating team, and perhaps with some irony a dance team, after his public outrage with the ISU and their treatment of Bourne/Kraatz in the late 90s, wouldnt shock me.

It's what's known as duplicity and hypocrisy. Backdoor dealings that help the other guy's skaters are bad, bad, bad, but when it's your skaters that are the advantaged ones, it's the only way to do business.

As I pointed out with the judges for Dance this year, there could be as many as 6 former SSRs on the panel. If the Canadian judge is playing ball with that crowd, that lines up as 7 to 5. However, I am skeptical that the SSRs will vote gold for Canada over Russia. When you play ball with cheaters, expect to be cheated.

Exactly. Which is why Russia will want gold in Dance (but they can agree to 'help' Canada in the Singles events, especially Ladies).

I think they have a great chance of winning the Worlds. They are breathing to watch and have some of the best lifts of any of the ice dancers out there today.

Their lifts are great, but their footwork and twizzles are mediocre at best, and they are slower than all the other top teams and even some of the second-tier teams. Overall, they are not the best in the world. The "best in the world" don't stumble in 4 of 5 performances this season.

Chuckm. Have you ever seen D&L Skate at a live competition? I was at 4 continents an they wern"t any slower than B. & A. You seem to like to bash them on this and another board every time they are mentioned. They also arnt my favourite ice dancers

You are entitled to your favorites, bellafurr, but you can't expect everyone to have the same tastes. D/L are not my favorites, not by a long shot. I much prefer Denkova/Staviiski and Belbin/Agosto. IMO, D/L are about #5, after Den/Sta, B/A, DelShoes and DomShabs.

I think that Canadians will be lucky to even medal this year, along with the Americans. The podium will likely be the Russians, followed by the Bulgarians and then the French. I think that the silver medal last year was D/L good-bye gift, the same goes for D/S (bulg); neither are likely to ever win another world championship. I think we are looking at another 4 year russian domination in ice dance.

I agree, I think they are the most even team, where he and she are on the same level in everything (interpretation, skating, technically etc). I know all pairs are very good and I think there are many who will have a chanse to win.
