Kwan, Slutskaya to follow in Cohen's direction?

Aw Kwanford - I was getting ready to ask if you'd co-host a party in Le Cafe with me if Miki wins gold at Worlds... but the only one you're really interested in is that jetsetting old bookworm MK. (*ducks to avoid the plates and knives*)

Bottom Line is she will be remembered for quite a while whatever her medals show. Her basic skating skills were not the best during her career but did improve by 2006. However, her WOW spirals suited her style of skating and was the stronghold in her career, loved by judges, fans and all viewers.

I doubt there is gold in her future, but I am eager to see her in LA Worlds. I think everyone is eager to see her competively again.

As to the Olys, I do not think she has to qualify for the USA team. There is a rule that a podium finish in a previous Olys can be defended automatically. Am I correct?

Joe

No, the rule about Polympic medalists in the US means you get out of going through regionals and sectionals, nothing about being elected to the US team in the next Olympics. I think i was also corrected the last time i posted this that the rule about Olympics podium finishers is no longer written in and would need to voted on....

Why the implication that I'm all violent & whatnot... I would love to host a party w/ you for Miki!! She's gonna rock!

Sasha wouldn't have to do Regionals and Sectionals and she would automatically be in the top funding envelope on her return, but she would have to compete at Nationals just like all the other skaters and if she did not place on the podium, she wouldn't be on the 2009 World team.

If there are only 3 on the podium, where do you put Sasha among these:

Kimmie, Emily, Bebe, Alissa, Marai, Caroline, Rachael?

I thought that the Gold medal winner of Nationals is the only one that is guaranteed a spot on the World team or is that only the Olympic team. Correct me if am wrong.

So it is possible if Sasha did not place on the podium she still could be picked for the World team.

Kwanford In the short time I've known you, you've grown so wise and laid-back... But after hearing about the warfare of the olden Goldenskate days, I'm watching my back. Don't tell me you weren't in the thick of it!

So, see you in Le Cafe after the Ladies LP. Everyone's invited! with significant others!

Go, Miki!!! Set that Mendelssohn on fire!

I think you are correct that it is only the Nat champ guaranteed a place on the World team. However, to my knowledge, the only times that skaters not on the podium have gone to Worlds (or Olys) have been medical byes (Todd, Nancy, MK) or somebody on the podium being ineligible for some reason (Sarah in '99, when NNN was age ineligible, or Jenny instead of Kimmie in '05). ; I don't think that the USFS has ever picked a skater for the World/Oly team that competed at Nats and was beaten by another skater who was eligible for the team.

attyfan is right. If Sasha wanted to avoid the chance of finishing off the podium, she'd have to withdraw from 2009 Nationals with an injury and then petition for a place on the team. The problem is she would then have to do a test skate, just as Kwan did last year.

The difference between Kwan getting the medical bye last year and Sasha getting it in 2009 was that at least Kwan had skated the previous two seasons and had placed 3rd and 4th at Worlds. Sasha's two-year absence from competition after a 3rd place at Worlds would weigh heavily against her.

or she could just train her butt off and actually do well there.

It's true- she can either work or take the "easy way out". She'd do the former IF she wants to go to the Olympics with any credibility whatsoever.

But seems like she isn't, so why are we talking about this?

Because she's said over and over that that's her plan!

And we all know how good she is with following up on plans. :agree:   :indiff:

Face it, she wants to be an actress right now.
