Evgenia Medvedeva

Yeah I'm also happy about the order even though she used to say that she prefers to skate last.
Im so nervous😄

Sorry if it has been already commented in this thread, but could someone explain how Evgenia got to have her new SP choreographed by Misha Ge? Is Misha collaborating now with Brian and Tracy? And is it frequent for choreographers to travel to competitions? If so, I guess they also have their travel costs covered by someone (a given skater's federation/skating club)?

They decided to change the SP after Zhenya's second GP to get her something that was closer to her familiar style, so she feels more comfortable with it. Misha and Zhenya are good friends and he knows her well, which is why she asked him to choreograph. That and also likely his availability at the time - David Wilson and Sandra Bezic were busy with Javi's show in Spain. I don't know who covers which travel expenses, but Misha might have other business at Worlds as well. Not sure if he's here only for Zhenya.

He is not only there for her but for 2 other skaters he choreographed for too

Right, I was trying to remember if any of "his" other skaters were at Worlds. He's also working for Wilson Blades, so they might want to have him there as well. Misha is a busy guy.

Mischa is friends with Evgenia, she just called him and he was free. Even though David Wilson is based in Toronto, friends with Brian, and considered the de facto TCC choreographer, skaters are free to use other choreographers. He’s not really attached to TCC the same way Daniil is to Sambo. Choreographers are usually hired by skaters and not by coaches, though some coaches will make recommendations or have their favorites (ie Frank Carroll and Lori Nichol, the Chinese and Lori Nichol...)

It’s not common for choreographers to travel to competitions. Often their services are a “one and done” situation and the skaters and coach will change the choreo after they teach it (Shae Lynn Bourne talked about this in her TSL interview). Other times the skater will arrange for some choreo touch ups or retooling (Kaori did this recently with Benoit). David Wilson was sometimes in the k&c at Yuna’s request but iirc he was unable to get accreditation in Vancouver. Same with Rohene Ward at some events, but not major ones I don’t think. People have also misidentified Raf’s wife as Shae Lynn lol. I think the ISU is getting more relaxed with letting choreographers have accreditation but they generally do not get K&C privileges

Initial choreo is covered depending on the federation and the level of the athlete. I don’t know about the complexities of who paid for Tosca though. I believe Misha is coaching someone at Worlds, but he is also nominated to be on one of the ISU commissions. His accreditation badge says coach/choreographer. I am pretty sure showing up at practice was for moral support

Oh, thanks a lot for the answers. I didn't know much about the relations in the skater-coach-choreographer triangle. Anyway, for Misha it must be a big thing being seen at the ice rink with such a star as Evgenia. I mean he's just at the beginning of his choreogeapher/coaching career and the more visibility and famous names in his, so far, considerably thin portfolio the better. I wish him all the best. And, of course, good luck to Zhenia.

If I remember correctly, Misha said that Brian called him, not Evgenia. Obviously this is not important in the grand scheme of things, but just saying :p

Btw, Zhenya's group has another practice session in about an hour, if I'm seeing it correctly. Hope Jackie's going to be there for it, because he's currently watching Men (the practice sessions overlap).

ISU invited Misha. He is Athletes Commission Nominee, whatever that means.

In other future competitions, I think Misha can be at the boards for Evgenia if Kazuki or the other Japanese skaters he choreographed for are also there.

Does anyone know usually how long after group 6/7 would start? I really want to see Zhenya but I live on the east coast and I have school [emoji14]

Someone posted the schedule with a few converted times many pages back but it's buried now, lol. The ladies SP ends at 7:57am EST on Wednesday, so I'd assume tuning in at 7am would allow you to catch the last group.
