Endorsements by Male Skaters

That's so funny - I just happened across the youtube vid of those photos being shot but I didn't realize it was you doing the shooting, Kathleen. (Duh.)

They are nice. Shiz is gorgeous in the sailboat photos!!!

Hey - can you send me that link? Thanks. Little did I know when we were out on the boat that day that it would end up on Japanese Network TV for a documentary on Shizuka. It was surprising because there was just one Japanese woman onboard with a very small video camera...

Thank god they cut out all the X-rated parts! (kidding!)

It will take me a while to figure out how I came across it. Be patient!

Alexei's agent and people missed a huge bet years ago, shortly after the Olympics, when it became fairly well known that he rarely sharpened his skate blades. He could have been wildly successful in a shaving commercial similar to one of the old Joe Nameth "Take it Off' kind of things with the tag line, "I won the Olympics on dull blades, but I would never think of letting one touch THIS face." (cue pretty girl stroking Alexei's cheek.....dissolve to steam.....) ;)

This is a fabulous tag line - I actually can't believe it didn't get picked up.

Sorry if this is off-topic in a thread about endorsements by "male skaters", but Kristi has a new endorsement with Blue Bunny Yogurt:

On the other hand, maybe it is on topic because a female skater 15 years after her gold medal win is still getting endorsements while it is still difficult for the men.

Of course I say "Go Kristi!"

Thanks - glad you enjoyed them. I like that photo because you can really see Shizuka's muscles, which when she's relaxed you don't notice as they aren't flexed and she looks like such a normal, tiny thing. Then you catch a glimpse like that and you think...whoa!..no wonder she's an Olympic champion.

I like that photo because it seems so long ago that I saw a picture of Johnny which showed him actually happy and having a good time! Thank you so much!

Come to think of it, he looks a little like Snoopy as WWI pilot, too. As mercurial as ever that day, I guess.

(I'm talking about the one where Shiz looks like Jackie Kennedy, not the one where he's having a great time.)

no I think that the studies fail in one critical way - guys aren't ashamed to admit that's what sells... most women are ;)

BRAVO!!!!
Major kudos for telling it like it is!

They had a really interesting program on PBS a while back, called something like 'Secrets of the Sexes', an attempt at a scientific study of exactly what it is that men and women find attractive about one another.
They measured things like pupil dilation upon meeting a date, brain waves when the test subjects were shown pictures, heart rates on dates, etc.
Their findings were that men's # 1 focus was chest-to-hip ratio, women's # 1 focus was height.
There were lots of other factors, of course, but those two were the winners.....

As for endorsements, the public image of ice skating (not just in N.America, either)is such that ice skating girls are little princesses (and who wouldn't want to buy something endorsed by a little princess....), whereas ice skating guys are a bunch of nancy boys in fairy queen costumes, who could realistically only endorse International Male underwear........

I often wondered about that. The girls are often raised to the level of living goddesses, but that deification does not seem to carry over to the boys’ side. In fact, the guys are often subject to all sorts of rumors about their personal lives that don't seem to ever touch the girls at all.

Anyway, here is world champion Stephane Lambiel in a Japanese Xerox commercial. The text description states that Ryan Bradley is also in this commercial, but the only skater I know of by that name is the American National silver medalist; and I don’t see him here.

Very nice. I'm amazed that they used him (so there, Daisuke & Nobunari!) but he's fantastic.

Somebody must like that zebra outfit.

I think Ryan bradley was the stunt double for the old man during the back flip.
