And as I said the only thing that i don't like about eteri post is that she doesn't try to moderate the comments or just completely ban them for this post
It always seemed to me like Evgenia was just ashamed to come to Sambo and talk to Eteri and just ignored her messages and disappeared. But why? Maybe her mother saw what's happening - 3+ new Olympians arriving to practice at the same rink. And maybe she forced Zhenya to move to other coach (Orser was the best option obviously)
Because I'll never forget that Rus Fed press conference where Zhenya and Eteri made jokes and laughed all the time - It was 01.03.2018. after Olympics. And I can't imagine Zhenya made her decision to leave on her own.
I disagree Zhenya was forced, she made clear many times it was her own decision.
As for saying goodbye to Eteri, it is hard for a teenager. I remember myself at that age, and sometimes its easier to just run away rather than go and explain yourself. I think Shelepen described something like that in her interview - she just said she would go for a walk, and ran away from a camp, only confessing when they started searching for her and calling. Its not a nice thing, but honestly, if we remember ourselves at that age, sometimes you just cant get yourself to go talk to an adult in a position of authority.

Please, do tell.Heck...forget people in a position of authority. When I was a teenager I did crap like that to people that were my own age and I’m terribly ashamed now. If I only knew then what I knew now![]()
It will be Eteri vs The World! :dev2:
Eteri needs to form her own country to give the rest of Russian ladies a chance to qualify for international competition spots.
Even if she did form her own country of Eteristan three spots wouldn't be enough!![]()
Hey, just wanted to point something out real quick. In the interview with Yagudin, Eteri clearly says that the Alina WD was contemplated *during* Worlds, i.e. between the SP and FS. So I'm not sure why folks are speculating it had something to do with the RusFed pressuring Alina to withdraw weeks ahead of Worlds so that they could send Liza or Konstantinova in her place. Even if that happened - and there's no evidence of it, as far as I know - the contemplated WD that Eteri was referring was clearly a separate matter.
Unlike Zhenya, Alina didn't show signs of any injuries during Worlds, so my guess (and this is purely a guess) is that she can some kind of nervous breakdown between the SP and the FS. Even that I find hard to believe, because she seemed pretty composed and focused the whole time, but who knows.
I thought she mentioned they thought about WD on Saturday. Meaning the Saturday prior to the beginning of Worlds competition. I think 'during Worlds' could only have meant 'during the lead up to Worlds'.
Also, I deeply respect her coaching and adore her skaters, but Eteri needs to grow up. Honestly, folks go back and forth about Alina and Zhenya, teenagers who are 26+ years younger than Eteri yet who both handle themselves with more emotional balance, maturity, and integrity than she does. Examples...
• Last year after Zhenya's departure, Eteri leaking Zhenya's messages about not wanting to compete against Alina in the Olympics. (Messages which, knowing Zhenya's sense of humor, may have very well been half in jest.)
• Eteri unnecessarily referencing Zhenya's departure in her Instagram post today. If Eteri's really turned a page, does she have to include this, knowing full well the controversy it will stir up?
• Eteri this weekend disclosing that Alina was contemplating WD from Worlds. Isn't this something that should stay private between the skater and her coaches? Especially if the contemplated WD was because of psychological issues. Again, there was no good reason for Eteri to bring this up, and do so with zero context.
I'm sure there have been instances where Eteri has been justified in feeling wronged; Zhenya certainly could have handled her departure better, for example by showing Eteri the courtesy of telling her in person before it became public. But, again, Eteri is a grown woman and a coach who is supposed to be setting an example for her pupils, who are entirely teenagers and younger. Part of that means keeping your emotions under control and demonstrating grace, poise, and kindness in the face of adversity. Yet, more often than not, it seems to be Eteri who acts like the teenager.

i really don't like this idea of how women should just shut up and keep things to themselves because it might make other people feel uncomfortable. as someone who's gone through a lot in the past year i think eteri's earned her right to write a few paragraphs on instagram about everything she's been through, including her students leaving. she's not acting like a teenager, she's acting like a human. she kept quiet for more than a year, which is a whole year longer than what i would've lasted. "keeping your emotions under control and demonstrating grace, poise, and kindness" is such an outdated view of how women should act. im not saying that women can't and shouldn't demonstrate grace but it shouldn't be the only thing they're allowed to do. there's nothing wrong with speaking your mind in a respectful way.
and for the record i think both zhenya and eteri have shown a lot of poise, i'm sure they've been holding a lot of things back in the past year.

edited to add: i don't remember anyone telling borser to show some grace and poise when yuna left, didn't see anyone telling raf to shut up last year either when he had some words to say about nathan and his family![]()
I actually don't mind her talking about contemplating WD, even if it was for psychological reasons. Which I kind of assume it was given that this season has been hard and the pressure after last year's skate. To me, that makes this victory even more impressive for Alina. To think that she was able to deliver in the face of all that pressure is downright incredible.
Fair enough. I should re-emphasize that it's largely speculation that the contemplated WD was because of Alina having psychological struggles.
But if that was in fact the case, I don't think it was Eteri's place to make that public, especially in the manner she did without providing any context, and especially considering we're talking about a 16 year old girl here.
If it was Alina herself who was willingly disclosing this, I'd applaud her. And, yes, I agree with you that it would make her triumph all the more impressive.
