Evgenia Medvedeva

What does that say?

This is just auto-translation:

- Medvedev announced that for the next season she will have an arbitrary program based on the movie “Memoirs of a Geisha”. Director - you?
- I will work with the team, but you will learn about the details later.

I just hope it won‘t be Wilson... I‘m sorry but lately I haven‘t been enjoying his programs at all. Rika‘s SP was so much more uninspired than her FS. And Zhenya‘s tango was... well, I can‘t say I didn‘t enjoy it because I did. But only when Zhenya herself was on fire. Because that made the program alive. The rest was not really tango and the music cuts also weren‘t especially well thought through. There were moments when the audience clearly wanted to clap to the rythm but after a few seconds the music changed again. Very confusing. The step sequence was good and my favorite moment of the program. But the rest was just... not good. So, I really hope she either gets a completely new choreographer or works solely with Misha.

I expected Misha to stay on as the choreographer. He's really become an important person to Zhenya, so I'm very happy with that. I'm expecting him to choreograph her SP again, tbh.

Different choreographers suit different skaters and David Wilson would be the first to say so.

He expects an intensity of feeling to come from the skater. Sometimes his vision is too esoteric for the skater or creates such an intensity of feeling that the skater is unable to calm down for the jumps. Glen Gould’s retrospective which he did for Buttle in 2005 was such an example.

Now that Zhenya has choices of both music and choreography she will have control of that decision.

Agree about David, and I would like Evgenia to work with Misha but in combination with a more experienced choreographer to bring out more difficult elements. Tosca was beautiful but technically Evgenia can do better and will need to perform to a higher calibre program.

I think they need Misha in the team: he can support and choreograph for Zhenya and the most important thing:
He can give GOOD advice for costumes. Since he arrived in December Zhenya's costumes are fantastic. They made us almost forget the (cursed) blue dress she had for OCS. 😂

:drama: Oh heavens! Why did you have to remind us

I think she should use the same dress maker as Kaetlyn or Tessa.
They may be expensive. Recall KO saying she paid quite a fortune for her costumes.

Feeling Matthieu Caron is Tessa’s dress maker. He has done a few different costumes. I think Papadakis used him too.

I remember from Sandra's interview that Matthieu made the dress she originally wanted Evgenia to use for OCS.

Sorry I saw the EX today... I was in the hospital from sunday till today and I had no internet at all :sad4: Can I say how much I LOVE this Experience dress? It is simple yet stunning and the red feather it is simply marvelous. The contrast... is so powerful. And since our Zhenya loves to tell a story with her skating, here is my take on this EX (maybe she has said something before but I haven't read them...)

She's a young widow, she tragically lost the love of her life. At the begining she's writing a letter to him and smiling, because she remembers all the good times they have lived and loved, the warmth, the happiness. All those moments she is writing them down as to not forget them, because they where the best... then the last part, with the lights dimmed, is the funeral... now she reflects the tragedy and realizes what has happened... and ends with the signature and the promise to hug again in the next life. Goodbye, my love.

I think it'd be really great to keep Misha around going forward. Whether you liked Tosca or not (I love it) I think you'd have to admit it is basically as good as a program could possibly be for Zhenya under such circumstances. It may not be the most complex, but Misha understands Zhenya and there is not a single off, awkward, or uncomfortable move in Tosca. I would also argue that it was put together much smarter than her other 2 programs. There are transitions in and/or out of every jump, allowed for her to show her strengths while also improving on her extensions and musicality, etc.

I think, and this is just my opinion, that having someone who understands Zhenya's skating so well (as well as her as a person) going forward could be really valuable. Bringing him in was a really, really smart move.

Plus it was put together quickly. I still want her to keep the Tosca short. It's a good program that can become a masterpiece.

I think David could be fine if it was a collaboration between him and Misha. Besides Sandra, he's also done several collaborations with Marie-France for Virtue/Moir and Seguin/Bilodeau, so he might be fine with it. I think it was great for V/M to combine his voice with Marie-France. If they did that, David would be able to polish the program when Misha wasn't around, which could be good because Misha travels around even more than David does.

I actually like the idea of it being a collaboration between Misha and someone else (not necessarily David). I like Misha's work, but I do find that his programs aren't the most complex (I don't think it was just because they did Tosca fast, because people comment on that about other Misha programs too). So combining him with a more experienced choreographer could be really effective if done right.

I would love her to skate to Ararat from the film by Atom Egoyan. Buttle skated his FS to it for his world championship victory. The score has a lot of lovely parts for amazing step sequences and would nicely counter balance Memoirs.

The film is about the Armenian genocide so she may feel a connection to her father’s ancestors.
