2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I forgot about Victoria Vasileva , the Russian Cup Final bronze medalist! Is she remaining junior? I think she should stay junior for next season.

I think so. She's not guaranteed a GP and probably wouldn't get one, but she will most likely be able to snag 2 JGPs.

(alongside Kanysheva/Sinitsyna/Kromykh/Valieva/Usacheva/etc.)

A bit late but congrats to Evgenia for making the podium in biggest competition of the season, for the 4th season in a row :) Quite an achievement in general, but especially considering the Russian ladies field.

Next season will be wild.

If you count Juniors. It's six seasons in a row.

Attendance to the events at the Youth Olympic Games should be free.

But sadly it seems like YOG clashes with the European Championships... and with Euros coming 2nd I can't help but think that those who qualify for both would choose to just do Euros. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Winter_Youth_Olympics https://www.goldenskate.com/event/2020-european-figure-skating-championships/

It would be a feat to fry to win both. I think EYOF clashed with Euros one year and an EYOF medalist did both.

Trusova, Sherbakova and other senior skaters in 2019-2020 season

By the way, it would be interesting to consider which layouts of programs with or without 3A can compete with the typical program of Shcherbakova and Trusova this season. And what preferences of PSC / GOE are needed in this case in order to compete on equal terms?
I think that Rika with 3A combo and Elizabeth with 4S combos can compete with them on equal terms given the difference in the PSC.

The Russian Figure Skating Fed better submit Liza's name or I. Will. Riot. They already threw her under the bus this season, they owe her.

I can't imagine that they would not. With a 3A she may well be the most competitive of Alina-Zhenya-Sofia. I don't think she was ready to go this year, (because of the illness) and it was wonderful to see Zhenya skate well and get a medal. But next year might be a different story with Rika and 3A. (I do hope though, that Liza puts in more work on the skating skills, choreography etc.)

Rika also has a fairly consistent 4S, and an inconsistent 4T. Trusova brought about the quad revolution, but she isn't going to get much time to enjoy it as a senior. In fact, not only her PCS but her tech score may fall below Rika.

Why? Sasha has a three-quad program, and although sometimes she doesn’t land all three, she still gets pretty high TES (90+). Rika has just one quad right? Well Sasha has 2-3 and a possible 3A. There is no way her TES will drop below Rika even if she falls on a quad. Even if Rika adds two quads, Sasha’s BV is still higher than Rika’s. Just simple facts. And may I remind you, Rika’s 3A is scarily consistent in practice, but at Worlds she was 1/3 with successes. Sasha’s 4T is landed 70-73% of the time in competition.

We still haven't seen it in a competition, so "fairly consistent" is an overstatement. Don't get me wrong, Rika is a formidable skater and she can surely achieve a lot. Rika is ahead in terms of 3A, but Sasha is ahead in quads.

I would hope so, but I don't trust the Russian Figure Skating Fed one bit. They could decide anything...and failing that there's this Coaches Council I didn't know about until recently, they so completely choose Zhenya over Liza to go to World's...maybe they want her gone with all the talent ready to go.

The requirement they set since after euros was a whoever wins the cup of Russia will go to world's, and zhenya won so they send her. Nothing wrong there.

That's simply not true, rusfed specifically released a statement that they are considering other results from the season etc. Why else would there have been a vote if it would've been clear?

If the situation had been reversed and Zhenya had had the great GP season and then got ill and had to miss Nats and Euros, while Liza had been the one struggling the Fed never would have had a skate-off. Zhenya would be in for World's and I would have been fine with that, that would have been fair.

But because it was Liza, the Fed felt it was OK to ignore her earlier strong season. Actually...Sofia, anyone else except for Alina probably would have got the same treatment too and that would have been just as unfair.

I always love those prophecies. Just read several from the last off-season and from pre-worlds times. I can recommend it to anyone who wants to lighten his day.

I‘m by no means a fan of Sasha but to declare she will be beaten by Rika‘s tech and ”fairly consistent quads“ is a bit of a stretch, imo. We haven‘t seen Rika‘s quad in competition yet while Sasha does land her 4T fairly consistent and her 4Lz occasionally... in competition... She also won’t have low PCS, she’s the next Russian wonder kid, two time Junior World Champion... She has more momentum going than both Evgenia and Alina had and remember how long it took them to climb in the PCS score. Plus she has this insane TES score, even without the 3A. Maybe I‘ll eat my words but to me it looks like Sasha will absolutely be the one to beat next year. I would be very happy if for once PCS were not simply awarded for high TES but how likely is that? Rika, Alina... can challenge her and I hope they will. But to say that Sasha will absolutely fall behind Rika is a bit naive... because she will not, unless she doesn‘t compete or takes out all the quads from her programs.
