2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

I was looking at the scoresheet at Worlds and was thinking - what would have happened if Kihira had landed all of her three 3A's? Kihira would probably have gotten +12-13 points in TES maybe 14. That would not have been enough to beat Alina. But with really good +GOEs on all three jumps she probably would have won, but it would have been really close.
Conclusion - it's hard to beat a clean Alina, even with three 3A's.

rika would've gotten at least 4-5 points higher on PCs overall if she was completely clean. and she wouldn't have lost a point for the fall, she would've won easily if she landed everything imo but i don't think she's managed two clean programs this season.

does this mean she's showing her skaters that they can lose weight while still eating all their meals? or is she saying that she helps them not eat in order to lose weight?

I guess so, because when they first ask her about weight watching, she says “you just have to eat right”.

Then she says that she didn’t have much of weight problems, but once decided she had to lose 8kg for “effect” related to some outfit for a tango performance and she stopped eating altogether for 5 days. But she didn’t go further than that after the performance. I think she tells the outfit story more as a silly thing she did when young, but I can’t be sure because 1) there is no intonation and mimics and 2) I am not native Russian speaker.

Overall, she seems to have a sense of humor (for example, how her husband had to go as far as the US so that she doesn’t kill him) and seems like a reasonable mother of three. Can’t imagine her starving the skaters.

what would have happened if Anna Tarusina didn't suffer in a car accident in 2016 ? http://www.isuresults.com/results/season1617/gpf1617/CAT006RS.HTM

I just don’t understand this criticism of Sasha. People praise Alena to the high heavens (rightfully so) but TBH I can’t think of more than a couple distinctive moments in any of her programs that portray character. She moves to the music very well (maybe even one of the best at it) but I see absolutely no distinctive character from one program to the next...which is totally fine by the way. She’s a musical creature who you could literally switch the music and she could skate the same program to it without a hiccup. She’s that good yes but she doesn’t really have signature movements in her programs that when you see them (in practice) you would know what program it is from based on a charactistic movement.

Sasha on the other hand adds loads of character in her performances.

I’m not sure if you’ve seen 5th element or not but she does an amazing job of recreating Leeloo’s movements and bringing that character to figure skating. During big spender she has sass and spunk and even hams it up a bit. She’s very dynamic compared to many other top level skaters from around the globe. Sure she’s got room to improve but to suggest she doesn’t listen to the music or add character to her programs is just inaccurate IMO. I wouldn’t even say Sasha is deficient in her performance ability and TBH would likely never score Alena more than a point or two higher in PCS when both bring their best. I think that says a lot of good about both skaters actually!

For the most part I agree, and I'm going to miss both of her programs! But, I've noticed sometimes she is so focused on the jumps that she doesn't hit a music point, and tends to rush the transitions. A pretty normal thing, especially when you are attempting so much difficult tech. Alina, in my opinion, tends to do the same.

Everyone is talking about jump BV, but we can’t forget about the spins. Alina consistency gets level 4s with high GOE. No, this does not make up the difference of a quad, but when scores are really close a level 4 spin with +4 GOE vs a level 3 spins with +2 can make the difference.

A refresher.

Baby Liza Nugumanova and Petr Gumennik doing sbs 2A, and baby Sofia being impressed by that =)
cute!

Its not stupid, yes many character die, but it is an amazing tv show. The thing is when you begin to watch either you hate it and stop watching or you are hooked until the very end. Not to mention the total amazing cgi with he direwolfs and dragons, and yes I am one of the ones who got hooked since watching the first episodes 3 years ago, I basically Bing watched 5 season in I think one week or 2 weeks? Before that I had no idea what this show even was about and now I am so hooked to it.,

I'm glad you like it Fabienne but as you admit millions of people don't.

I think I remember that car accident. Poor girl. Wasn't she badly injured?

But why did you show the standings of the junior Grand Prix final? Because Anna would have been there too with Alina and Nastya?

I wish that they would give Trusova something different from what they've given her; no one's saying she has to be an ice princess or something but outside of 'Big Spender' her programs were all 1 note performances - I would say the same thing about Kostornaia's programs this season.

I agree with the sentiment and generally with everyone else wanting to see more from Trusova and Kostornaia, but I think people need to keep in mind that they've only been skating for two seasons. Compare what some others skated to their first two international junior seasons:

Yuna Kim: Snowstorm (SP), Papa, Can You Hear Me (FS), El Tango de Roxanne (SP), Papa, Can You Hear Me (FS)
Mao Asada: Over the Rainbow (SP), La Boutique Fantastique (FS), Carmen (SP), Nutcracker (FS)
Carolina Kostner: Canon in D (SP), Papa, Can You Hear Me + Schindler's List (FS), Song from a Secret Garden (SP), and then a medley that includes Violin Fantasy on Turandot (FS)
Sasha Cohen: Piano Concerto No. 2 by Rachmaninoff (SP), Vivaldi Selections (SP), Violin Concerto by Mendelssohn (FS)

There of course is some variety in there, but it's vastly classical music and other warhorses--and then these skaters developed into versatile skaters capable of portraying different characters OR skating to a general mood. It's a little vexing how hard we are on these juniors, expecting them to do something completely different every season without realizing they need time to develop the maturity to portray themes on the ice that don't come naturally to them. Their talent is undeniable already, so why belittle them by focusing on these nitpicky flaws, just to find something to criticize? They've been skating for two seasons. Given how senior skaters often skate the same programs repeatedly without getting called out for their lack of versatility (cough cough, Ashley Wagner and Moulin Rouge for what feels like five years), can we all just wait another year or two before we start slotting skaters into our own made-up cubbyholes? "Oh, this one is the all-technical skater. And this one is the artistic one." Let them grow.

The thing is, outside of 'Big Spender', she's had three international programs. I can see how her two programs this year were of a similar note (although imo they were quite different but I can see your point), but I think the Vivaldi one was different from her two this year as it was more of a warhorse. But again, she hasn't even had a senior career so its not like they've had a lot of seasons to give her a variety of programs. In addition, after listening to her GOT pieces they chose, I think these will be quite different from anything she's done, as there's quite a soft side to those songs in addition to the intensity she is good at. Hopefully they'll choose sp music that is something different too, and I just hope that people haven't already pigeon-holed her into the category of being just a jumping bean and are willing to see the improvement that I think will come - she's just a junior after all and plenty of people don't blossom artistically until their senior career, which is what I think will happen with her. I just hope people will be willing to notice and accept change and improvement from her and not call her a jumping bean because thats whats she's "known" as. Sadly I already see this with Shcherbakova. She imo is one of the most musical/artistic skaters out there, but because she jumps a quad people reduce her to another Eteri jumping bean with no SS and INT, when that is the farthest thing from true.

Yes, she is one of the most consistent skaters and I think she could make podium there and at many other competitions later. But "if" doesn't count.

(...and because Kihira was "crushed" by Alina at that JGPF )

and don't forget step sequences - to get lvl 4 you should make at least 11 difficult turns and steps. Alina perform at least 19 and always get high GOE.

Today‘s May 1st, so we should get an Alina SP reveal from Daniil, right? Given that we‘ve already found out about Sasha‘s choice, I think it‘s more than likely that the whole team is already working on the programs. I‘m hoping for something modern for Alina. Let‘s see what it will be.

As for Sasha, I like the Game of Thrones music, even though I‘m probably one of the few who hasn‘t watched a single episode yet. I would not immediately have associated this music with Sasha but maybe it will help her grow artistically. Now I‘m waiting to find out about the choices of Alena and Anna. Given that we already know Sasha and will likely find out Alina‘s today... I‘m hoping we‘ll get to know them soon, too.
You are waiting for nothing. Alina is not in Moscow, neither Daniil or Eteri. I expect some photos from Florida soon.[emoji16][emoji41]
