Have given up hope that Yuzu is doing Faoi. Is it normal for them to announce he is in, like a week before it starts?

Some say we have to wait till thursday.
But if he is not going this year I trust his judgement.
Javi is said to be doing a special performance in FAOI regarding his Flamenco. It would be great if Yuzu can see that live if he can come.

I wonder how many shops in Japan do this? Sometimes there can be "too much" Yuzu in one place :laugh2: People are trying to work out which shop has the record for the most lifesize Yuzu cardboard figurines

If I was Yuzu myself and see this I will get a bit freaked out

I wonder who gets to keep these cardboard figurines? the shopkeepers (if so wayyy too lucky) ? or Kose will take them back? you bet some will find their way on ebay or yahoo once the advertisement campaign is over to be sold for a fortune

Many of the staff would probably volunteer to take one and give it a home.....

I hope FaOI will announce Yuzuru's plan this week at latest. If not, they are too mean (lol) and very calculating to maintain the crowd. Some fans travel to the cities and they might want to cancel the hotels or planes if Yuzuru is not there, and FaOI doesn't want it apparently.

Exactly.. They are only thinking about the JP fans. International fans need more time to book flights and accomodation much earlier....

I want to complain if he is doing it and they are postponing for so long.

I think he won't do it though

I don't think Yuzu gets to decide when to announce something, the organisers do. And since the tickets are pretty much sold out already, there is not much to gain, at least money wise, to deliberately prolong it. Since Yuzu is the would be headliner, he usually gets announced last, and as far as I understand , even Javi hasn't finished announcing the skaters coming from Spain for Faoi, which will be announced tomorrow.

All very true and very reasonable, but it's hard to be reasonable about our Overlord.... I mean, I won't even be there but I'm fretting about TV coverage and watching last years to keep myself occupied (and being reminded in the bargain of the joy of our first view of Doryzu..... remember?)

In Doryuzu’s defense, despite its craziness, it managed to make some of the best Yuzu magazine and calendar covers last year that I've seen in my opinion. And it certainly gave us good entertainment.

Are you coming to FaOI? Yes, I am very worried about international fans knowing all of their dedication, I hope they will have the chances to see Yuzuru

I wonder if Ms. Peyton gives yuzu a portion of the sales since she uses his image.
Or it doesn't work that way for painters? I she had random people as inspiration then no dues I guess. But yuzu is known and it could be the reason the price tag is hefty.

No I'm not. But alot of international fans on twitter are complaining. This is not fair to them in the slightest because they need more time to cancel flights and hotels if he isn't doing it

It's ironic that a painter can paint Yuzu and sell it for more money than what skaters earn from prize money even if they won most of the season. That is Hanyuconomy for you.
I doubt she personally got his consent and pay him royalty.... even media in Japan find it hard to reach or contact Yuzu sometimes, let alone an English painter. But maybe she did get consent, who knows... in this case I don't mind, since her last painting is sitting in an art gallery for the world to marvel at.. didn't even Jay Chou (famous Chinese singer) visited and took a photo?

Celebrities usually have IP rights over their images, which belongs to them and their agencies. So if people try to profit off their image, their agencies may take action. However, we know Yuzu has no agency. The Japanese skating magazine industry has been profiting by placing him on the cover almost every month for all these years already. Hence why I always prioritise buying Yuzu's personal biographies and photobooks (because these he definitely gets royalties) first before I move on to the magazines.

I don't know that artists need to pay their subjects (we have a national portrait competition, the Archibald, I must check if it says anything...) but I imagine if she did approach him, he'd be amenable, she is very wellknown and admired and it's quite a compliment. And she has done quite a lot of celebrity portraits, so would know the rules on it.

(However, I wouldn't mind betting he was even more thrilled/flattered when the creator of Tokyo Ghoul drew him.... I loved that one)

I want a sculpture of Yuzu made of marble in Europe to be honest lol

I love how artists are being inspired by his beauty. I hope Sekkisei marketing in us markets use Yuzu as their poster boy too

There is a Yuzuru wax sculpture in Madam Tussauds if you want something 3D..Although it's not made very well in my opinion. They need to make a new Seimei one.

Whilst on the topic of Yuzu inspiring artists, after musicians and painters, most Hanyu fans already heard of the US ballet troupe company doing a Yuzu tribute performance. Now there is an interview. I love how the company's owner mentioned she mistake him for a ballet dancer the first time she saw him, goes to show how perfect and beautiful his posture is in Chopin:

“When I saw Yuzu skate in Pyeongchang, I thought he must be an accomplished ballet dancer who also skates,” Valdez stated. “That was my first assumption, just based on his port de bras (carriage of the arms), carriage of the body. He moves like a ballet dancer. I thought he was classically trained. It doesn’t matter, he is natural, so it’s beautiful. The carriage and the way he carves the space with his arms as he skates, it’s just very good ballet,” Valdez commented. “His musicality, he makes sure his arms are moving at the right place just on the note.

So nice to hear.

I am hoping he becomes more mainstream in the west before he retires. Such a rare talent. He deserves more attention and fame for what he is worth. He is one of the best athletes in winter sports history.

Wonder if he will ever get nominated for Teen Choice Awards #ChoiceMaleAthlete?
He got alot of nominations from twitter users last year.
