2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

From the first view it seems that Daria and Kamila should have easy way to podium, but reality can always be different.

You mean Alena? Although I was also surprised that Kamila did not in entries to stage 1(Does this mean that we will not see Kamila in Russia?)

I'm not Russian, but NO THANK YOU. Alina and 3A stay right there they are. Eteri and Danii gave them great and winning programs previous season and years before that. No need for Averbukh or Zhulin now. Or anyone else for that matter. If you want their choreo for other skaters - fine, they can have their stuff. As for me, I (and the hordes of other fans of Eteri girls) am happy with the current situation for Zags and 3A. Med's programs of last year were horrible and empty. All of them. Send Misha Ge and alikes to other skaters please, but not to Alina, Anna, Alyona or Sasha. Thank you, but no thank you. Because I want to keep enjoying their skating for many upcoming years as well.

Alexz, where are you from? I thought you were Russian, that's why I'm asking.

It‘s Usacheva and Kanysheva there, though, isn‘t it? Kamila is listed as a substitute.

Thanks, another mixing of names, I'm doing this all the time (three times at GS already if I remember...) :bang:

Kawabata is pretty strong rival. Except her, I don’t see any competitors capable of challenging them. Araki, Kuzmenko, Schumacher and Harrell are incapable of this. Okey, maybe Araki and Harrell is capable, if Russian girls start to make a big mistakes.

Alina posted parts of her short program on her ig

She is stunning! Now I'm convinced Alina can interpret sublimely this music. I'm gonna be in love with this SP I can feel it

Some russian to clarify this for us - the clip Alina posted has some TV channel logo so I suspect this is from a TV program, a show or a piece on Alina?
That could explain the roof camera work and the blade close-ups

There was information that Channel 1 Russia makes a film about the work of Crystal. Looks like it was live today (I didn’t see, not sure).

I am not sure about placing Daria in the first event. As far as I remember she had consistency issues last season. Why didn't they have Kanysheva+Valieva or Kanysheva+Tarusina to almost secure 1+2 with 2 of 3 biggest threats from Japan present there? Of course, if they have the goal to maximize the JGPF presence.

I think they added Daria because she wasn't very consistent last season and they want to see if she should be given a second event. But assignments can change after test skates.

Two thoughts on this. One is the consistency issue like you mentioned, they may think that Daria won’t be their strongest competitor on any of the JGPs and would rather her make the big mistakes on a hard JGP. Let’s say if it didn’t matter which one she was at but she made a lot of mistakes and came in say 4th, then her chances at the final are basically over. So if she’s not coming in the top two regardless, then have Daria go against the harder competition and save the easier competition for the girls that have a better chance of making the final so that it gives those girls a little extra room for error. Idk if that made sense, but personally I can see all the other girls listed, except frolova as I haven’t seen her skate much, above Daria score wise and with a better shot to make it to the final.

I think Daria is actually such a beautiful skater, but I also think that she needs this season to work out her issues and become comfortable competing internationally, then next season she can be a top competitor. At the same time though, if she nails everything at this JGP, then she is an easy lock for second imo, and I think she has the potential to do just that.

My second thought... would Rusfed know who the competition would be when they chose their two girls? Once they see who else is sent they can just swap with the subs. And also, they might be saving kamila and giving her more time to be in top form, sending her to 4 and 7 like I believe they did with Sasha last year. I think Kanysheva will be competitive with kamila as the top runner, with eteri’s packaging and her quad toe, she could be a whole new skater. Hence why she was chosen for the first JGP instead of Kamila.

"The new season of figure skating on First opens a short program of Alina Zagitova!

No one has yet seen! We watch the first

It is with this program that our figure skater flies to Japan! "

Do you think Alena Kanysheva will include a quad toe in her fs ? After all we only saw one video of it (if I didn't miss anything) so we don't know anything about her consistency on this element.

I would think it depends on the consistency of the element. They might also do what they did with Anna last season and have her try it at her 2nd JGP after already securing gold at the first event.

I think if she's been training it successfully and her team thinks she'll need it to win, then it's possible. I don't think anyone can threaten her at this first JGP though.
