Jason Brown

Both of his competitive programs are slower paced this year. They will showcase his precision and hopefully (!!) his excellent jumps. The EX looks like fun. He was due for a new one. Thanks for the links!

I’m actually not that surprised. The alternative would have been getting two new exhibition programs or using two old ones (or some combination). And his old ex programs are really old and and SA is really early, so it kinda makes sense to get the new SP out there.

So based on all the little clips, it looks like the new SP will have the same jump content as last season’s SP, at least at first. He seems to be in really good shape for this early in the season, and I’m kind of curious if he’s going to try for 2 Challenger events before SA (like 2016 - get that quad out there) or if they’ll stick with one Challenger to avoid overtraining and possible injury.

I’m sure he wants to medal at SA, and the field there is kind of hard to predict other than Nathan. But I think it could be challenging. In particular, although Boyang hasn’t done well there in the past, from what I’ve seen he’s been pushing himself this summer. So I guess it’s not surprising Jason has been so focused on training this summer (especially after his up and down performance at Worlds). :)

Here’s another clip! There were Chinese skaters in town and I think they trained with Brian.

It’s from the mother of one of the skaters. It’s the last slide.

Last year he did 3F, 3A and 3Lutz+3T. It seems to me from the videos posted here that he did a 3F and a 3Lutz so maybe this means he will do a 3A+3T in the second half? I am not a skater so I'm just curious. :)

Yeah, he did do 3F and 3Z but I don’t think we can conclude he’ll do the 3A3T in the second half, for a few reasons. The 3A has to be a solo jump in the SP, so the combo will be added to one of the other two jumps. Also, if Jason has trouble with any jump, it’s usually the 3A, so I’m not sure he’ll put it in the second half (though he might). When skaters adapt competitive programs for shows they sometimes change the order of the elements to fit better. So I think we’ll just have to wait for its debut in competition.

I am curious as to everyone’s thoughts about what we’ve seen of it so far. Do you like it, or is it too soon to tell?

The little I saw of it, I really liked. I am excited to see the entire program.

That 3F was immaculate.

Also, what I heard of the music, I really, really liked.

I think he just skipped doing the 3A at the beginning or its in a part of the program we haven’t seen yet. I think he’s still doing the 3Z-3T. Funny how that’s become such a great combo for him considering he used to flutz the lutz.. His lutz is almost as good as the flip.

I really like what I’ve seen so far. The cuts seem pretty good and it feels like it’s fresh and not a retread of last seaon’s sp.

Yeah it was a great 3F! And here’s all of the music:

So far we haven’t heard the parts of the song I like best (vocals after the into) so I hope they make it into the program!

ETA Team Orser has helpfully posted almost all of the clips (except the first one I found) here:

Oh thanks, I didn't know you can't do the 3A in combination in the SP.

I know the 3A is not his best jump - even if it seems to me it's become so much better and more stable during the last season - but I hope he will put it in the second half unless it is a disavantage points-wise. There's a big difference in points between 3Z+3T and 3A?

Only one jump can get the bonus. Yes you can get more in GOE on a 3A than a 3Z combo, but I think that 3Z combo is so good that it’s probably not worth it yet to switch. Not to mention the possibility they want to swap the 3F for maybe a 4S later so seems to make sense to put something he’s solid in for the second half.

Oh yes, I really hope he will get that 4S this year! Without a quad he scored 96+ at worlds so I suppose he can easily go over 100 points with only the 4S, right?

Yes certainly! But I’m trying not to get too ahead of things lol.

If I recall, Jackie Wong predicted in the last Ice Talk that he would have a solid 4S this season. If we go by Jackie’s success rate with Jason predictions, that probably means he’ll keep struggling.

Yeah, you're right but I'm soooo excited to see what he will be capable to do this year! :yahoo: I have the feeling that this season will be a turning point for him. You know, it has been very exciting to see how he progressed last season while retooling his technique. In my opinion he doesn't need harder jumps like the 4Z or 4F to be competitive. Unlike other skaters he is so good at everything that a 4S (and maybe then a 4T) will be enough to be ahead of many of them.
