2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

That’s what they said the last 3 years...and still no sweeps at GPF, Europeans or worlds.

If Russia was really so dominant they should have been sweeping all those podiums.

Don't you find six medals of nine possible (and all gold and silver) in those last three years as a sign of dominance? Not to mention twwo previous years with full sweep. Yes, when you have three skaters, there is always a probability, that one stumbles. Airliners have two engines also mainly for the case of failure. I don't know how it will look like ten years from now, but Samkrut was right in that sense that today russian lady has to made serious error in order to somebody other get over her at least in european field.

That’s not logical at all. They shouldn’t need another place as shown at GPF. If they can’t do it with their top 3, a fourth won’t matter.

One can wonder who are those "top 3", the last season it was a question, e. g. should be there Medvedeva or Tuktamysheva, Samodurova or Konstantinova, not to mention how many people doubted about Alina. Top 3 is not matter of a moment.

PCS aren't exactly the deciding factor for the juniors. For the SP Ksenia was dinged due to starting way earlier, but she lost not only to Ting in the FS, but to Yuna Shriraiwa and Young You too. Here's the protocol: http://www.isuresults.com/results/s...OR----FNL-000100--_JudgesDetailsperSkater.pdf

But it was in the free more than the TES.

61.54
57.72

That's almost 4 points which is a lot for juniors and as explained if anything it should have been the opposite, since i thought Ting's free skate was very forgettable and basic. (i liked her short more)

I do agree that the narrative was to avoid the podium sweep, so probably Sinitsyna would have not medalled even with a perfectly clean FS, that's why i said i don't think she missed a chance.

Zhenya will be participating in the Autumn Classic International! A bit of a tight schedule if you ask me.

There's no narrative. Ting was better that day.

knew it! I predicted she'd go there.
So... meeting with Rika, Bradie, Gabbie & Eunsoo this early in the season, sounds as pre-skate canada skate off, since then 4 of them will meet again at Skate Canada.

Have to say I didn’t expect that. It’s a bit of a tough schedule, with test skates right before and it‘s historically a pretty hard challenger as well. Hopefully all will work out. Now it will be interesting to see what the other girls get as their assignment.

yeah, I wonder too...
will russian ladies try to go to Asian open or US classic or will they stick to european challengers?

I think they might prefer to stay in Europe, simply because it’s more convenient. But who knows if there’s enough spots there with all the new seniors.

In a recent Forbes Russia issue Alina got into the list of young athletes with highest incomes. Her 2018/19 season total earnings were estimated at $800,000. It's a very big number and not only for Russia. And it seems like global companies are ready to pay to top Russian skaters, thus increasing figure skating global awareness. Of course, she is so far an outlier although one source said that Medvedeva's earnings were $700,000.

What I am trying to say is to continue my strong opposition to the statement that competitions with many Russian (and Japanese) skaters will be of little appeal to the international public, thus, driving further down the interest to the sport. On the contrary, I think that the more stars (whom people all over the world can see in the ads) participate, the higher the interest the event will have. In Russia many people paid big money to see "Hanyu the star" rather than "Hanyu from Japan".

Makes sense after all. Tough fight between Tarusina and Vasil'yeva for 2nd. but that's how it often goes.

My thoughts as well. I would rather see one of them changed with Sinitsina or Tarakanova than both at one competition, added to Valieva.

Let's just hope everything turns out well for her.[emoji120]
This is quite unexpected considering she had some problems with jet lag last season.

Sinitsina had more of commanding the ice/rink factor in that competition. She was unfortunate with some landings. Ting had bigger jumps but had a fall as well. I would have them at a similar score overall, with a difficulty to choose a winner.

Evgenia will have to do very important skates in the span of a week. But ACl will be convenient for her I assume. Also, will Lombardia entries be published soon as well, since it's only one day later?

Deadline for Lombardia is ths week. So we will know the entries next week at the latest I think

Do those very nice dollar totals include endorsements? I know they get paid to do shows as they should.

Being with EG means your going to make money honey. ;)

Russian skaters pay back quite a large amount of their earnings to the federation, right? Is the $800k before or after the federation takes their cut? (I'm just curious.)
