Plushenko Next Year

In all fairness to Plush, I did see him do an excellent SP in Germany a few years back. He used lyrical music and he did not turn it into a hot mugging the audience routine. He was quite aware of being sensitive to the music and skated accordingly. Very well done.

If that's on youtube, please someone link it to here.

Ohhhh I think you mean his brilliant Adagio? That was amazing. Of course the character he was portraying was really fitting for him.

To be honest, I've find the men's figure skating more interesting , enjoyable and fair without him than with him.

If you really like him and want to see him go to the Shows he does.

*groan* Do you know how much a flight to Russia costs??? Almost $2k coming from where I am at. I couldn't save that much money up in a year!

Thanks Ximena. That was the program I liked from Evgeni. He was totally in the music and not mugging anything to the audience. He even got all the way down in his sitsspins and his camels were well represented. I wish he could skate more like that, but the audience that love him like him best when he's mugging.

After watching his Adagio program, I will admit that it was better (artistically) than most of his programs. However to me Plushenko still displays his awkward arms.

I don't look forward to his return next season and the endless overscoring by the judges. I find it very annoying.

Well, I never knew he had a lyric side until I saw Adagio.

Otherwise, he is constantly mugging for the audience and, unfortunately, they love it. For me he has little if any classical depth. Maybe it is his arms, but he looks always like he gets out of characted to do a jump and then looks up for audience appreciation, and then finally back into character. Not unlike Standup Comics.

He had an amazingly successful exhibition performance with St. Petersburg 300 once, he was dressed all in black and the moves he did really were exquisite, including a gorgeous spiral that I wish he would do more often in competition.

yeah. i think that he really skated brilliantly there, much better than he has in competion. Comprable to Lambiel, only not as sexy. I would think he would be unbeatable if he could bring out that level of emotion and performnace in competion.

Well according to his critics the judges must like his mugging too. What else could account for his high scores in competition. He has mugged his way right into quite a few gold medals over the years.

I'm so glad he's coming back!!

I'd love to see him skate to Debussy's Afternoon of a Faun, or perhaps something from Spartacus...

No..."Afternoon of a Faun" is Janet Lynn's signature piece and "Spartacus" is Karen Magnussen's signature piece. Plushenko can choose something else.

This is the kind of performance I want to see next year.
While I was in awe of his jumps, I found the excessive posing and rest stopping, lacking flow in the program. Everything is too calculated for me. I can visualize his choreographer telling him how to place his body, arms and hands during his many cross overs. However, I do understand his popularity with others.
