2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Oh no, it's so so sad. Must be a big shock to all skaters who didn't expect anything like that after working with her a few days before. And of course, deepest condolences for Daniil. He had to deal with a loss of both of his parents at such a young age. That's insane. Hope his friends, relatives, co-workers and students help as much as they can.

What terrible news about Danil's mother Lyudmila passing away. Its so incredibly sad. Shocking too.

When did his father pass away?

Truly so sad.

I would be pretty shocked if Tursynbaeva left Team Tutberidze of her own will. She seemed so happy to be there; I know sometimes things can look misleading from social media, but it really was a very convincing impression of happiness and never looked fake to me.

Maybe more importantly from a pure athlete/coach point of view, her improvement in results was really staggering! Second place at Worlds! I really hope that Tursynbaeva hasn't just been evicted from training in Moscow for political reasons by bureaucrats who don't actually care about her. Can you imagine the heartbreak over this happening yet again?

I posted back after Worlds last year when she landed the quad which makes her a podium threat if the Russian Federation would start to clamp down on coaches/facilities that receive government funding from coaching foreign skaters. It would stink for Tursynbaeva but at the same time I can see a logical perspective from the Russian federation's standpoint that they shell out money that supports that coaching staff and facility and it should be something exclusively for Russian athletes and Tursynbaeva does not represent their country.

Don't know why my comment was deleted here, I was expressing a valid concern by drawing a comparison with Mustafina's situation at American Cup in 2011. After that case, the russians stopped sending gymnasts in US for competitions :scratch2:

Fot those criticising rusfed, getting visas/passports and personal documents are actually the responsability of the athlete or if he/she is a minor - of the legal tutor, mostly parents. It's possible the paper work was not complete because of a personal mistake, but also maybe rusfed forgot to validate some documents.

Is this the ending of Alina's Cleopatra program? https://vk.com/eteritutberidze?w=wall-97272391_177917

Evgenia was fire in that red suit and stilettos:bow: https://twitter.com/evgeniagallery/status/1166583174866120704

My "criticism" was that this has happened frequently enough that the Fed should look at either some type of penalty for skaters/teams that don't handle the paperwork or withhold funding until a skater/team can provide any and all travel documentation that they may need to travel internationally.

So sad for Danil. May his mother rest in peace. First Mashas father shockingly died a couple months ago Now Danils mother. Terribly sad.

Does Danil have any siblings?

idk if this has been covered here, but apparently Elizabet has confirmed via insta that the rumors are untrue.

As far as I know, he’s an only child.
His father passed away in 2010 from cancer, and Daniil had to start working at 19 to help his mother financially.
He’s only 28 now, he’s so extremely young and lost both parents at this age.
Can’t begin to imagine how he feels right now :(

That would stink big time, specially because quite a few of top russian coaches are currently coaching or recently coached foreign athletes.
I mean, start with Moser and Mishin and Morosov and so on, for example.

Russian media said it was sudden, so probably no life threatening illness

Would that be the same for Moris then? Even tho this is Ladies thread

"She always smiled ... She had many interesting stories about ballet ... She put her soul into our every movement ... Lyudmila Borisovna will always remain in our hearts ... "

In the last two years both Eteri and Daniil lost their mothers. heartbreaking...

I can't wait to watch Tarakanova and ber massive jumps [emoji173]️

So sad for Daniil and the girls. I know she was a big part of their team. And she added so much to the girls programs artistically, her influence on Alina's programs was particularly noticeable especially during the Olympic year.

I think one shouldn't underestimate the role Lyudmila Borisovna played in the daily dynamics of #TeamTutberidzeForProgress. She was a trainer, but not the always strict, always demanding, never satisfied kind of trainer the kids work with on the ice.
She was older, more life experienced, a grandmother role figure the kids could spill out their hearts to, the shoulder to cry on, the adult to confide in, the cabinet where she kept the ballet stuff an quiet oasis full of fond memories, of stories, laughter, discovery and pleasure.
Bolshoi dancers are renowned for their skill level, work ethics and discipline, ballet lessons with Lyudmila were probably a serious but fun lesson. The kids will miss her for sure.

" Unfortunately, I have not worked with Lyudmila Borisovna for that long, but I can say that she was a bright and very good-natured person! Everlasting memory! My Condolences ... "
