" A very difficult day for me and our entire team. Lyudmila Borisovna Shalashova, our choreographer, teacher-mentor, mother of @daniil_gleikhengauz, left this life.
In the past, she was a ballet dancer of the Bolshoi Theater, Lyudmila Borisovna always taught me how to get used to the image and correctly convey it through choreography. Together we watched opera and ballet, while learning new images, she shared her invaluable experience. In the Olympic season, she provided me with incredible support! Lyudmila Borisovna personified the art of Ballet. THANKS A LOT! You will always live in my heart ❤ and in my programs "

I am deeply saddened by these heartbreaking news. My deepest condolences go out to Daniil and all the people who got to know and be around the amazing woman that Lyudmila Borisovna was. May she rest in peace :(:sad21:

goodbye ... goodbye ... Tarakanova. She had everything to win, but it's the end of her season. It really is the worst Russian junior season...

I think it's realistic though

Tbh I don't think it's over until tomorrow night. I don't expect her to win or anything but still.

I agree that this year's team looks weaker, but many of the skaters are in their first season still. :)

Rest In Peace Ludmila Borisovna Shalashova, my condolences to Daniil Markovich and all his family.

Yes we were missing some negative comments again.

yeah but to be fair we should talk about it.

In this case i think Panova is making the same mistake Plushenko made last season: i don't think Tarakanova can handle this layout for the SP with the backloaded combo. She may lands it fine in practice but it's always inconsistent in competition and it's very expensive.

In general though russian ladies do seem a little less trained than usual, i'd say competition used to be better when more groups had chances to compete at international events.

The state of junior russian girls is all in the hands of Sambo70, Snow Leopards and CSKA and i've always said that for me it's a bad idea.

On top of that there is also the fact that Korea's field is getting deeper each season.

I think we are spoiled. US, Japanese or Korean ladies fans will be happy if their skater takes a medal at JGP. But Russian ladies fans take anything but 1st place as a failure.

The young Korean girls gave a good first showing today, somehow seeming both more prepared, more determined and more relaxed at the same time ;-) However, Russia still has 5 JPG events to try and forward tow or three skaters into the JPGF.
If Tarakanova leaves Lake Placid with less than 13 points, her chance of making JPGF is very slim in her possible second assignment. The other federations will shift their strongest skaters around too.

Agree that Nastya should not be backloading the combo in her SP. Last season when she moved it to the 1st element she had her best performance of the season. The backloading bonus is only worth it if you can land the combo consistently under competitive pressure. The 1 point of base value you lose by putting it in the first half is much less costly than the ~8/9 points you lose for falling on the lutz (- GOE, no 3T, 1 pt deduction)

It kinda looked like she forgot to rotate on the lutz. There was a lot of delay.

We were used to seeing the 3A delivering senior worthy performances each JGP in addition to Tarusina, Tarakanova and Kanysheva who were pretty consistent. Now best juniors moved to seniors, and Korea is steadily becoming one of the powerhouses of ladies' FS. One can't expect to see absolutely perfect, 1st place winning performances every time.

I know I'm late on that but I hadn't checked the thread before. My condolences to Daniil. Terrible to lose both parents at such a young age. I hope he will get support from his colleagues to go through this difficult time.

Seems like Sinitsyna's document problems turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Those two new Korean girls proved themselves today, and if they repeat their confidence tomorrow, will be amongst the medalists.

I think Korean girls got really lucky with the extremely lenient judging panel today... and zero PCS differentiation. :disapp:

They were clearly better than Nastya today, though. No question about that. Nastya had a fall, she was slower than usually, was nervous and had wasn't performing at all. She wasn't underscored by any means. But she can still come back in the FS and she will.

Hmmm.. I am not that sure about that. I'll elaborate once it's over =)

I'll be interested to hear your opinion, of course but both landed their jumps. Nastya didn't. Without saying anything else, I think it's clear from that alone who had the better skate today overall.
