2019-20 Russian Ladies' Figure Skating

Tukt is great, she is in 22, soldier veteran of the FS, hold, my sorry, im forget the artickle, 3A-3Aetc-3A in 22 ages, the great, the great...,

Shcherbakova had my favorite LP out of all the ladies, which is surprising to me - she is not one of my usual favorites.

It is difficult to imagine Trusova losing to anyone this season. Even with a few mistakes, her BV + GOE on clean jumps will make her unbeatable. It will be interesting to see how the judges score her PCS. Her LP is a little disappointing right now (not a lot of choreography or interpretation, but it highlights her speed very well), but will the judges give her high PCS just for the quads?

Kostornaia has the most beautiful skating, but will the judges punish her for not pushing the technical envelope? I honestly think she should have the highest PCS of any lady in any competition, period. But the judges will probably hold back a bit because it is her first season and she doesn't have a quad.

Having 2 3As in the LP is huge for Liza. It's enough to keep her in the conversation, for sure.

Alina has clean elements and the reputation advantage, as well as the 3Lz-3Lo, which gives her a technical advantage over Kostornaia and Evgenia. Her programs continue to disappoint me, though I love her elements, and I'm thrilled to see her so happy and relaxed compared to how stressed she seemed last season.

Zhenya also seems very happy. Her 3S-3Lo is gorgeous, but she's still technically behind everyone else. Even if she's better than last season (which I think she will be), the increased depth of the field means she is more likely to not be in the top 3. Her programs still need some work, but her interpretation is already wonderful, and her skating skills have improved since last season.

My prediction is that the World team will be Alina, Trusova, and Shcherbakova - but there is room for Liza or Alena if Shcherbakova's quad is inconsistent all season.

Russia needs 4 spots at worlds! Please!
Or better 5, because I cannot handle some of the girls not going :-/

Would be great if FS had a similar system to carbon emission swaps - then mighty skating nations like say, Andorra, San-Marino & Nauru could sell their places at the WC to Russia, Japan and others :)

Liza is in great shape! I hope she can stay healthy all season because no one can afford to miss Nationals this season, with the depth of the ladies field there.

I still think it would be a great idea for GPF qualified skaters to earn additional spots for their country. For example if 4 qualify then the federation gets 4 spots and so on. GPF is supposed to be less prestigious than Worlds, but if 4-5 people of the same country qualify and only 3 of them appear at Worlds then a smaller competition becomes stronger than the most important one.

Do not count out zhenya out of any team, she is working on a quadsal, mabye we will see it ,

Guys, only I see this hilarious trolling from Daniil? :) "Drakaris!"

Yes, this FP is her dragon flame. "Drakaris!", and after a couple of minutes of sitting in a K&C - huge merciless score crushing all obstacles in the way of Sasha.

Daniil, you are funny guy

It was after Zhenya's program that I first read Anna Karenina.

Now I consider watching Game of Thrones. :)

If her goal/desire is to get to Europeans or Worlds again, then she really needs to work on getting that combo in the bonus portion of the program, she's no longer leading the technical side - Trusova is easy to say a lock to land at least 1 of her quads and Shcherbakova could probably still come out on top on the technical score if she falls on the quad. She's not going to be able to rely on PCS beating the 3A's by the end of the season, she is well aware based on her own career that winning and clean skates will make their PCS go up by the end of the season. And let's not forget that Liza has 2 triple axels and Medvedeva has mentioned working on a quad (not heard if she plans on putting it in this season

If Alina keeps skating like she did during test skates she is the only firm lock for the team.

OK, sorry, off topic, but when I translate Russian figure skating sites and try to translate I get this "на прокатах". The translator keep translating it to "rentals", which absolutely makes no sense. Can some native Russian speaker translate correctly this "прокат" once and for all?

прокат - "rental" or "skate"

If Aliona has bad air position then I don't know what to say. :drama:

Why? It's not stylistic it's technical so it's not really subjective ie. just because some likes how it looks, it shouldn't deserve the points as it's in the rules. Simulations show that air position is a part of proper technique and a skater should be tight in the air It's important because everyone talks about her jumping for her height and distance and that she should get the highest GOE, ignoring the other GOE requirements. At the same time, people talk about Anna's jumps being shorter and lower but forget about her beautiful air position. Of course, height and distance are core points and air position is not, but it's not the huge scoring difference that everyone seems to think and I don't think there's anything wrong with pointing it out. It's not a difference like who prefers the look of a bent or straight tan arm :scratch2:.

it comes from the general name of the sport in Russian: фигурное (figure) катание (skating). Then you have прокат which also happens to be the word for rentals.

So it's a slang word and should be actually про-катание. Like pro-skating. I would never figure that out. :)
Funny thing is that "skating on Luzhniki" is translated as "rentals on meadows" lol

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/прокат

The second meaning (2. rolling) is the relevant in our case. This meaning of the word as "rolling" in the context of the figure skating becomes "skate". In another context, it can become riding (rolling) a luna park train for example or literally rolling on rolls, etc. My general understanding as non-native mainly reader and not speaker

On Russian streets you see these signs and advertisements:

Прокат автомобилей = rent-a-car
Аренда недвижимости = property for rent

It is confusing, because Прокат in figure skating means 'skating run' because каток means rink, and кататся means to ride (on), either on skates or a rollercoaster, bicycle etc.

This helps in translating/interpreting Russian figure skating: https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Терминология_фигурного_катания, basic knowledge of Russian is compulsory.
